Carapebus Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s lined up for Carapebus over the next couple of weeks.

Right off the bat, the start is pretty quiet. There’s a small bump on Sunday morning, but it’s the only decent window in the first week. The water temperature is sitting around 73°, which is pretty normal for this time of year.

The standout session is Sunday, August 2nd, first thing. The wind is light and cross-off from the north at just 3 mph, which will keep the surface clean. You’ll see a small but rideable 4 ft swell from the east, with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 225. It’s a point break that’s fairly consistent and works best when the swell comes from the southeast, so this easterly direction is workable. Watch for crowds, they crop up here sometimes.

After that, the week falls apart pretty hard. Monday through Saturday all see strong cross-on winds in the afternoons, with gusts over 19 mph. The mornings offer cleaner conditions but the surf quality gets knocked down by poor wave shape or just meager energy. Thursday the 6th has a brief clean morning with 4 ft from the northeast and a period of 7 seconds, combined energy at 323, but the forecast calls it marginal – likely tide-dependent.

The second week starts to show more swell but the wind remains a problem. Sunday the 9th morning is clean but the swell is only 5 ft from the northeast, period 7 seconds, and the wave comment calls it poor. There’s a brief window on Monday the 10th morning when the wind goes glassy, with a 5 ft northeast swell and period of 6 seconds, combined energy at 224, but that’s a short-lived calm before the onshore kicks in again.

By the end of the second week, the swell is mostly coming from the south-southeast. The energy jumps way up into the strong range – Thursday August 14th morning shows a combined energy of 527, but it’s a cross-off wind and the comment says marginal. The waves themselves are around 6 ft, period 7 seconds, but the direction isn’t great for this spot. The long period swells on the 15th and 16th, hitting 12 to 13 seconds, bring good energy but at beach breaks they can break straight and messy. Here at Carapebus, a point break, those longer periods might actually line up better, but the winds are still cross-off in the mornings then turning cross-on and strong, so it’s a fight to get a clean ride.

Frankly, if you’re keen, the only real call is Sunday morning, August 2nd. The rest of the window is a battle with onshore winds and mediocre conditions. This spot sometimes doesn’t fire for days, and that’s the normal pattern here. Forecasts can change, but as it stands, don’t hold your breath for the second week.
