The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Busca Vida.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with ya – the next couple of weeks are lookin’ pretty flat and grim for a proper paddle. The first surfable day that even gets a whisper of a nod is Thursday, August 6th, and even then it’s just a marginal call. Up until then, we’re talkin’ a long stretch of no-go from now through the end of July and well into early August. It’s a real blank run.
The water’s a balmy 79°F (about 1°F warmer than usual), so it’s nice and warm for a float, but there’s just no juice.
Thursday, August 6th, the morning sees a weak 4ft east swell with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is only 203, so it’s a weak, tired little pulse. The wind is a light easterly cross-onshore, so it’s not completely blown out, but it’s a far cry from good. The wave comment is “marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions,” so honestly, don’t get your hopes up.
Sunday, August 10th, there’s a brief moment where a 2ft south swell with an 11-second period pops up in the morning. That’s a long-period groundswell, and for a reef break like Busca Vida, that’s a good look in theory. Combined energy is a weak 125 though, and the wind is a light cross-onshore. It’s a tease.
The only real standout, and I mean the only one worth circling on the calendar, is Wednesday, August 12th in the morning. We’ve got a 6ft swell from the SSE, with a 7-second period. That’s a short-period, building swell with a combined energy of 724 – solid moderate wave energy. The wind is light easterly and onshore, but at 6 mph it’s a light breeze, not a howler. For a reef break, 6ft with light onshore wind can be a bit of a bumpy mess, but it’s the biggest push we’ve had in this whole window. The wave comment says “marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions,” so it’s not a perfect day, but it’s your best shot. Compared to the rest of the 16 days, this is the one to watch.
The rest of the forecast is a graveyard of poor surf conditions and onshore winds. Lotta days with 3ft to 5ft of east-southeast windswell, but the wind is always on it, and the scores are all zeros. There are a few days in the second week where the swell height gets up to 5ft or 6ft, but the wind is onshore and the wave comment is still “poor surf conditions.” Not worth a paddle.
So, there you have it. A long, dry spell, one glimmer of hope on the 12th, and then back to the waiting game. The forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a tough stretch for Busca Vida.
Rusty.
