The Lowdown
Right, surfers, Rusty here. Let's have a proper look at what's on the table for the next couple of weeks.
Alright, straight up, we’ve got a bit of a quiet spell ahead. For the first long stretch, from Thursday the 16th of July right through to the end of the month, it’s looking pretty grim. Most of the energy is coming from the southeast and east-southeast, which is just about the worst direction for Busca Vida. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and the wave comment is consistently "poor surf conditions". There’s a bit of a spike in energy on the 18th of July afternoon, with the combined energy hitting 1435 (moderate wave energy), but the swell is 8ft from the ESE and the wind is straight onshore, so it’s going to be a messy, blown-out wall. Not worth the paddle.
The real standout, the only true glimmer in the 16-day window, is Wednesday the 29th of July. We’ve got a morning of glassy conditions – wind is dead calm at 0 mph. The swell is a clean 4ft from the south, with a period of 13 seconds. That’s proper groundswell, so expect some decent shape and energy, with a combined energy of 429 (moderate wave energy). It’s a reef break, so that long period is a good thing. The water temp is about 79°, which is pretty normal for this time of year. The only thing to watch for is that the morning is a winner, but the afternoon switches to a light cross-onshore, so get in early. The crowds are listed as "sometimes", so you might have a few others with the same idea, but for a clean, glassy 4ft south swell at Busca Vida, it’s worth the company.
So, the plan is simple: don't bother checking the coast for the first two weeks. It’s going to be a long, flat, and choppy run. Circle Wednesday the 29th of July on your calendar for that early morning session. It’s the only true window of quality we’ve got.
Rusty.
