Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's happening at Busca Vida. Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – this is a tough stretch. We're looking at a long, frustrating dry spell with hardly anything worth paddling out for.
For the first week and a half, from July 2nd right through to around July 13th, it's just poor conditions day after day. We've got onshore winds and cross-onshore winds constantly messing up the surface, and the swell is either coming from the wrong direction or just too weak to get excited about. The wave energy is mostly moderate, but the wind just wrecks it. Every session in that block is a write-off – you'd be fighting a losing battle.
There is a tiny glimmer on Thursday July 2nd, with a 5ft swell from the ESE at 9 seconds and light SE winds, but even then it's described as "marginal." The water temp is sitting at 80°, pretty normal for this time of year with only a tiny blip.
Then we hit a real lull. From the afternoon of July 14th through the morning of July 16th, the swell drops to almost nothing – we're talking 1ft to 2ft with combined energy as low as 40. That's barely a ripple, folks. Don't even bother.
Now, there *is* a bit of a pulse trying to show up later in the run. On July 16th (Thursday) and into July 17th (Friday), the swell picks up again, coming from the south with a long period of 13 to 14 seconds. We're looking at wave heights around 3ft to 4ft and moderate to solid energy (441 to 639). This is a notable shift – that longer period means better wave shape and more push, but it can break a bit straight at beach breaks.
The big catch here is that even with that better swell, the wind stays onshore from the ESE/SE at 9 mph. It's not super strong, but it's not offshore, so the quality is still going to be poor. If you are a die-hard and need to get wet, maybe the early morning of July 17th is your best gamble with 4ft, a 13-second period from the south (optimum direction for Busca Vida), and light cross-shore vibes, but don't expect anything clean.
Remember, the break is a fairly consistent reef, but with the winds onshore and the wave direction not quite locking in perfectly, it's a tough call. Because the swell is around 4ft and the wind is up, a kiteboarder might get more joy out of this than a pure paddle surfer.
Keep an eye on the long-range stuff for July 16th and 17th, but don't hold your breath. It's been a blank run, and that's just how it goes sometimes.
Rusty.
