Table - best surf conditions forecast for Busca Vida over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
To be honest, it’s a bit of a tough stretch ahead. We’ve got a long gap of pretty ordinary conditions before anything worth getting excited about. The first real window of hope doesn’t show up until late in the period.
The forecast kicks off with a few days of small, weak surf and onshore winds. That light breeze from the ESE and SE is keeping things a little messy, and the wave energy is low. For the first week and a half, it’s a real struggle with poor surf conditions and nothing to get you out of bed for. The swell is small, the period is short, and the wind is mostly cross-onshore. There’s really nothing to recommend here.
The standout session, and the only one I’d circle on the calendar, comes on Sunday, July 19th into Monday, July 20th. It’s not perfect, but it’s the best we’ve got. On Sunday afternoon, the swell bumps up to 7 ft from the ESE with a short period of 8 seconds. The wave energy is high, hitting 1098 (moderate to strong energy), but it’s a short-period wind swell, so it’ll be a bit lumpy. The wind is onshore from the ESE at 9 mph, so it won’t be glassy. Monday afternoon sees a similar setup with 7 ft from the ESE at 9 seconds and energy of 717. Still, the wind is onshore, keeping it from being a classic.
For a spot like Busca Vida, a reef break, these longer-period swells (over 11 seconds) are usually better, but this one is short and choppy. It’s a shame, because the size is there for the intermediate crew, but the quality is lacking. The water temperature is around 79°F, which is about average for the time of year, so you won’t need a thick suit.
Overall, it’s a lean outlook. The consistent onshore flow and poor surf quality mean this is a period where you’re better off keeping the board in the car and watching the forecast. It’s not a total blank, but it’s close to it. Don’t force it – the surf will come back.
Rusty.
