Table - best surf conditions forecast for Stela Maris over the next 16 days.
Alright crew, Rusty here. Let’s break down the next couple of weeks at Stela Maris.
Honestly, the start of this stretch is a total bummer. We’re looking at Thursday the 9th of July, with a 4ft swell from the SSE and a 12-second period, but the wind is blowing on it and the conditions are just garbage. The energy is moderate (379), but the wave quality is a write-off. You’re looking at a few days of the same story – small swell, onshore or cross-onshore winds, and a lot of chop. Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th are also pretty average, with the swell staying small and the wind making a mess.
Sunday the 12th is a total loss. We’re talking about a solid stretch of several days here where the surf just isn’t worth the paddle. It’s not until the morning of Monday the 13th that we see a little window. The swell drops to 3ft from the SSE, but the wind goes light and cross-offshore, leaving the surface clean. The energy is weak (162), and the waves are just ordinary, but it’s the cleanest we’ve seen all week. Tuesday the 14th morning is similar, with a tiny 2ft SSW swell and a glassy start, but again, it’s small and weak (154).
After that, we hit another rough patch. From the 15th of July through to the 20th of July, the wind is mostly cross-on or onshore, and the swell is either weak or sloppy. There’s a pulse of energy on the 17th of July with a 5ft SSE swell and moderate energy (536), but the wind chops it up bad. The energy numbers are all over the place, but the conditions are just poor.
The Standout
Now, hold on to your board, because the best two sessions of the whole outlook are sitting out there on the 22nd and 24th of July.
Wednesday morning the 22nd of July is looking like a real gem. The swell is a solid 5ft from the ESE, with a short period of 8 seconds. The energy is moderate (416). The real kicker is the wind: it’s glassy. That means the surface will be smooth as glass. The only downside is the short period, so the waves might be a bit fat and not as well-shaped as a longer period swell, but for a beach break, clean conditions like this make everything better. The crowds are often here, so you might have some company, but for a midweek morning, it’s worth the early alarm.
Friday morning the 24th of July is the absolute pick of the bunch. The swell jumps up to 6ft from the ESE, still with that 8-second period. The energy is moderate (529), and again, the wind is glassy. This is a serious contender for a really fun session. The waves will be a little bigger, a little more powerful, and perfectly clean. The sets might be a bit lumpy with that short period, but on a glassy morning, you’ll be able to find some good ones. This is the one to circle on your calendar, but remember, it’s a long way out so keep an eye on the forecasts.
The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no major surprises there.
To sum it up: the first week and a half is a write-off. The only real window is Wednesday the 22nd and Friday the 24th of July. The 24th is the standout, with bigger swell and glassy conditions. Don’t waste your energy on the rest.
Rusty.
