Seper Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, this is Rusty, and I’m looking at the surf outlook for Seper. Let’s be straight with you – it’s a rough run for the next couple of weeks. We’re looking at a long stretch of mostly poor conditions, so you’ll need some patience.

The first surf worth mentioning doesn’t show up until Thursday, August 6th, and even then it’s a marginal call. The early days, from the end of July through the first week of August, are all a write-off. Onshore winds, choppy, messy conditions. You’ve got a little swell, but it’s all wind-affected and not worth paddling out for.

The only real glimmer of hope comes on Tuesday, August 11th, in the morning. That’s the standout. Seper is a reef break, and it’s fairly consistent. The swell will be from the ESE at 5 ft, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy of all swells is moderate at 339. The real story here is the wind: light, cross-offshore from the NNE. That’s going to keep the surface clean. The water temp is about 79°, which is pretty normal for this time of year. Now, because it’s a reef break, that 5 ft swell with a short period should offer some fun, punchy waves. Keep in mind, crowds are possible at Seper, so get there early if you can. This is the one session to aim for in the whole 16-day window. After that, it’s back to onshore junk.

The next morning, Wednesday, August 12th, also has clean conditions with cross-offshore wind, but the swell drops to 4 ft. It’s surfable, but nothing special. The rest of the second week and into the middle of August is a mix of onshore winds, rain, and poor surf. There’s a period on the 15th with a long-period S swell of 16 seconds, but it’s only 2 ft and the wind is howling onshore at 19 to 22 mph. That’s a kitesurfing day, not a paddle surfing day.

So, to sum it up: the next 16 days are mostly a drought. If you can get out on the morning of Tuesday, August 11th, at Seper, you’ll score the cleanest waves of the forecast. Other than that, it’s a waiting game.
