The Lowdown
Alright, let's size up what Sul has cooking for the next couple of weeks. The water temp is 78°, which is about 2° above the normal for this time of year. So, it's a touch warmer than average, but nothing extreme.
To be straight up, the outlook is pretty grim for most of this stretch. There are no good options at the very start. The first several days are a total washout, with light cross-onshore winds and tiny, weak swell. You’re looking at a gap of about a week before anything even gets close to being worth a paddle out.
There is a bump in swell energy on Wednesday the 12th, with a combined energy of 276 (moderate), but it’s coming with a cross shore wind and a period of just 6 seconds, so it won't be clean. That session is a miss. The following week gets a bit more energy, but the winds stay mostly cross to cross-on, messing up the surface.
The only real standout is on Thursday the 20th. The morning is glassy with a 3ft swell from the east, period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is 290 (moderate), and with zero wind, it will be clean as a whistle. That’s the morning to aim for. Remember, Sul is an inconsistent reef break, so you have to be on it when it's working. A Thursday morning means crowds are possible, but not gonna be as packed as a weekend.
After that, it’s back into onshore chop and poor conditions right through to the 24th. There’s nothing else worth getting excited about. It’s a tough run with only that one Thursday window offering any real hope for a clean, rideable wave.
