Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks.
Overall, it’s a bit of a slow burner. The first few days are pretty average, nothing to get excited about. We’ve got a bit of a wait for the real juice to arrive, but when it does, there’s a good window of cleaner conditions and more consistent swell. The standout window looks to be the 11th of July and the afternoon of the 14th of July through the 18th of July.
Praia da Vila is a very consistent sandbar break, exposed to the SSE. The water temperature is about average for this time of year, nothing weird going on there.
Tuesday 7th July is not your day. Westerly onshore wind and a messy 5.2ft swell from the south with a short period of 8 seconds, giving us a weak and confused 521 (moderate wave energy). The afternoon cleans up slightly but it’s just not worth the paddle.
Wednesday 8th July morning is still poor with a cross-shore breeze and small 3.9ft swell. The afternoon is better: a clean 3.9ft swell, from the south, period stretching out to 11 seconds, with a light offshore breeze from the NE. That's a decent call for a sneaky afternoon session if you’re desperate. The combined energy is moderate (491).
Thursday 9th July is clean again, with a smaller 3.0ft swell shifting more ESE. The period is a nice 11 seconds, and we get light cross-offshore and offshore winds. It’s small but clean. Wave energy is low (273 and 201).
Friday 10th July the wind swings back onshore. A 3.0ft ESE swell with a long period of 11 seconds is ruined by a SW wind. The afternoon is messy with a cross-onshore wind pushing into a 4.3ft ESE (12 seconds) swell. Moderate energy at 529, but not clean.
Saturday 11th July is our first real standout. The morning and afternoon both score very highly. Expect a clean 3.9ft to 4.6ft swell from the ESE with a very long period of 13 seconds. The wind is light and cross-offshore from the N/NNE. This is quality. The combined energy is strong (649 in the morning, 674 in the afternoon). That long period swell will love a sandbar like this, offering proper shape and long waits between sets. Keep an eye on the tide, as it might be a little fat at low tide.
Sunday 12th July is a write-off. Rain, onshore wind, a weird mix of swells. The morning is 3.3ft from the ESE, and the afternoon jumps to a short period 5.9ft from the S (7 seconds) which is just crumbly and messy. High energy (676 and 782), but ugly.
Monday 13th July is even worse. Onshore wind, 6.2ft south swell, and by the afternoon the wind picks up to a moderate breeze. Poor conditions, likely choppy and blown out. The energy is strong (834), but it’s a kite surfer’s day, not a paddler’s.
Tuesday 14th July – the morning goes glassy. Zero wind, a clean 3.6ft SE swell with an 11 second period. Moderate energy (461). Nice if you want a smooth, small-wave session. But the real gold is the afternoon: a clean 5.2ft swell from the SE, 10 second period, with a gentle offshore breeze from the ENE. Very good conditions. Combined energy is high (625). This is the other standout.
Wednesday 15th July morning is clean with a smaller 3.9ft swell, but the afternoon goes crummy as a cross-onshore breeze ruins it.
Thursday 16th July is flat and small. Glassy in the morning with a tiny 3.3ft swell, but the energy is very weak (150). Not worth it.
Friday 17th July we get a nice clean run again. The morning is light rain but clean, with a 3.3ft ESE swell and a 11 second period. The afternoon is a gentle offshore breeze and a 3.6ft ESE swell. Moderate energy (257 and 314).
Saturday 18th July is the big one. The morning scores very high: a moderate offshore wind (12 mph) from the NNE, a 3.9ft ESE swell with a 12 second period. The combined energy is a solid 535. The afternoon is even bigger, with the swell jumping to 5.9ft from the east with the same 12 second period, and the energy spikes to a very strong 1018. The wind stays cross-offshore. At 5.9ft, it’s getting into intermediate territory but the quality will be high. This is a top-tier call for the second week, but it's a long way out so treat it as a promising prospect.
Sunday 19th July onwards the surf starts to drop off. The morning is clean but smaller (3.3ft), and the afternoon has
