Itajuba Reef Surf Forecast and Surf Report

G'day, Rusty here, and I've gotta be straight with you—this 16-day window for Itajuba Reef is a tough one. We're looking at a long stretch of small, average surf, with a couple of bright spots that are worth getting excited about, but you'll need to be patient.

The pattern starts off flat and ordinary. The water temp is sitting at 65°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.

The first real glimmer of hope comes on Saturday the 25th of July. We've got a clean 3 ft swell from the SE, with offshore winds kicking in on the Saturday afternoon. The combined energy is moderate at 202, and the period is a solid 9 seconds, which will give you a bit of push. That Saturday morning is looking clean too, with a cross-off breeze. This is the best of the first week, by a long shot.

Sunday the 26th starts off clean again in the morning with a 3 ft swell from the ESE and offshore winds, but the fun fades pretty quick by the afternoon as the wind swings onshore.

Then we hit a real flat spell. From Monday the 27th of July right through to Tuesday the 4th of August, it's a struggle. The swell drops below 3 ft, the energy is weak (mostly under 100), and the wind is generally messy. There are a few glassy mornings like Wednesday the 29th and Friday the 31st, and even Saturday the 1st of August, but the waves are tiny—just 2 ft to 3 ft with a short 6-7 second period. It's surfable, but you'll be working hard for nothing.

Now, here's the standout. Wednesday the 5th of August—that's the one to circle on the calendar. The morning is looking absolutely magic. We've got a 2 ft swell from the SE, but check out the period: 14 seconds. That's a very long period groundswell, and it's pumping in a combined energy of 318, which is strong. The wind is glassy, making it clean as a whistle. This is a low tide reef setup, and with that long period, Itajuba Reef will be offering up some proper, well-shaped lines. The only catch is the size is small, so it's not a bomb set, but the quality will be there for anyone who knows how to sit in the right spot. Crowds are possible here, so get in early.

The afternoon of the 5th gets wrecked by a cross-on breeze, so make the most of that morning session.

Overall, if you can wait it out, that Wednesday the 5th of August morning is the only true standout. The rest of the fortnight is a game of patience with small, ordinary surf. Keep your eyes on the forecast, because it tends not to stay this quiet for long.
