Alright, let's get into it. Rusty here, with a look at what's coming our way for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, it's a bit of a slow start. For the next few days, the swell is pretty weak and the conditions are ordinary. Don't get too excited just yet.
The first real window of interest kicks off on Saturday morning, the 11th of July. Ponta da Tataruga is looking at waist-to-head-high swell, around 3ft, coming from the ESE. What’s got my attention is that it’s glassy, dead calm. That’s going to be pure, clean face for turns. The combined energy is strong at 329, so there’s some punch behind it, but it’s not a washing machine. This is your window for a proper session.
Then Sunday morning, the 12th of July, is another standout. Similar size, around 3ft from the ESE, but the period stretches to 13 seconds. That’s a nice groundswell. More energy behind it (411 in the combined energy) and it’s glassy again. The longer period will bring in better shaped, lined-up waves at the point, with longer lulls between sets. Perfect for an intermediate surfer to pick off a few clean ones.
Beyond that, after Sunday afternoon, the forecast gets messy with onshore winds and dropping swell. There is a flash in the pan on Friday the 17th of July, with a tiny 1ft SE swell but an insanely long 20-second period. That’s a very long period swell, which at a point break like Ponta da Tataruga could bend in and offer some surprisingly long walls, even if it's small. Glassy conditions too, so it’s worth a look for a longboard.
Overall, the best of the bunch is hands down the weekend of the 11th and 12th of July. Get out there for that glassy, clean ESE groundswell.
Rusty.
