Table - best surf conditions forecast for Barra do Sul over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's coming our way for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, there's nothing too crazy on the cards, but we do have a few windows of clean, fun surf to get excited about. The first few days are a bit of a mixed bag, so you will need to pick your moments.
We'll start at Barra do Sul. The water temp is sitting at about 64°, which is about average for this time of year, so no need for the thickest rubber just yet.
Friday the 10th is a write-off. Tiny, weak 1ft ESE swell with a short 14-second period, but the afternoon turns into a choppy mess with a cross-onshore wind. Not worth a second look.
Saturday the 11th is where it starts to get interesting. Morning brings a glassy, clean 3ft ESE swell. The energy is building, hitting 461 (moderate wave energy), and with that offshore wind from the NNW, it’s going to be clean as a whistle. The afternoon stays clean with a cross-off breeze. This is a solid morning session for a beginner-friendly wave.
Sunday the 12th is another good one. Morning light offshore wind from the W, clean 3ft ESE swell. The afternoon turns a bit more side-offshore from the SW, bumping the swell up to 4ft from the SE. Clean conditions both sessions. This is a great run of quality small-wave days.
Monday the 13th sees a jump in size but a drop in quality. Morning 5ft SSE swell, but that cross-onshore wind will chop it up. It’s getting a bit big for beginners, and the quality is marginal. Afternoon drops off to a tiny 3ft SE windswell with a short period and more cross-onshore wind. Leave it.
Tuesday the 14th is a morning-only call. Clean 2ft SE swell with offshore wind, but it’s weak. Afternoon turns onshore and messy.
We see a bit of a pattern holding through Wednesday and into the weekend with small, clean morning windows. Thursday the 16th morning looks good – glassy 3ft ESE groundswell with a 10-second period. Friday the 17th morning also offers clean 4ft E swell with glassy conditions. These are solid, small-wave sessions for a mid-winter cruise.
Saturday the 18th morning is glassy again with 4ft E swell, but nothing special. Sunday the 19th morning has the best looking swell of this stretch – 4ft E swell, clean and glassy. That’s your standout for the first week. Just know that the afternoon on Sunday gets a bit strong with a 5ft ENE swell and a cross-onshore wind that will mess it up, so get it early.
The second week is a bit more up and down. Monday the 20th morning has clean 4ft E swell, but the afternoon gets blown out by a strong SSE wind. Tuesday the 21st is a good one – glassy all day, 4ft E swell in the morning easing to a glassy 3ft in the afternoon. This is a full day of potential.
Wednesday the 22nd morning is another highlight in the long range – 5ft SSE swell with a clean cross-off breeze. It’s not a long period, but it should be fun and a bit punchier. We then fade into smaller, weaker surf towards the end of the month. Friday the 24th has a tiny 2ft SE groundswell with a very long 15-second period. That’s a lot of energy for a small wave, but it’ll be clean in the morning. The 25th looks mostly marginal.
So, to sum it up, the standout sessions are Saturday the 11th morning, Sunday the 19th morning, and Tuesday the 21st. These are your best bets for clean, fun waves. Everything else is a pick-and-choose morning mission.
Get out there,
Rusty.
