The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cooking for the next couple of weeks at Barra do Sul. Right off the bat, the water's sitting at 63°F which is a bit colder than usual for this time of year, so you'll want a decent suit.
We kick off on Tuesday July 14th with a clean SE swell around 4ft and a period of 10 seconds. The wind is glassy in the afternoon, so the waves will be tidy. The combined energy is decent at 255, meaning moderate wave energy – enough to get you moving. This is probably the best session on offer early on.
Wednesday the 15th looks good in the morning, too – glassy calm with a light WNW wind and a similar 4ft swell from the ESE. The period holds at 10 seconds, offering up reasonable shape. After that, the wind turns cross-on and the quality drops off.
The next real standout comes on Saturday July 18th. The morning session is glassy with a 4ft east swell and an 8-second period – short period but with clean conditions. The afternoon though, the swell jumps to 5ft from the ENE and the combined energy rockets to 550 – that's strong wave energy. However, the wind is cross-on and the wave comment points to marginal conditions. If you're an experienced surfer, that bigger, more powerful swell with some push could be worth a look, but expect some chop.
For the rest of the first week and into the second, we see a pattern of clean mornings with waist-high swell and onshore afternoons. The standout morning sessions are Thursday July 23rd with a glassy 2ft swell from the SE but with a longer 12-second period – that'll hold up better. Another good call is Saturday July 25th morning with a glassy 4ft swell from the east (combined energy 200) – clean, surfable waves.
Later, on Tuesday July 28th, we get a push of 5ft from the SSE with glassy conditions in the morning. The period is short at 8 seconds, but the combined energy jumps to 342 (moderate-strong). For the more confident surfers, that's a worthy option, though the afternoon goes onshore.
Honestly, there's no massive, pumping groundswell in this run, but there are plenty of clean, surfable mornings. The best bet is probably Tuesday July 14th afternoon for the combo of glassy wind and solid 4ft SE swell, or Saturday July 25th morning for the consistent east swell with glass. It's a week of small to moderate waves but with good windows of clean conditions.
Stay tuned, forecasts can always sharpen up.
