The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a proper look at what’s happening for Campeche over the next couple of weeks.
First up, I’ve got to be straight with you – the start of this forecast period is a tough one. The water is sitting at 61°, which is a solid 5° colder than usual for this time of year. That’s a noticeable chill, so a good thick wetsuit is absolutely essential.
The pattern is a long, slow grind. We’re looking at several days of nothing but tiny, weak swell. From Friday 17th July all the way through Monday 21st July, you’re dealing with waves mostly around 0.3ft to 1ft. The combined energy is weak, barely registering double digits (12), and it’s a consistent "poor surf conditions" call. There’s a brief moment on Tuesday 21st July morning with absolute glass – wind from the north at 0 mph – but the swell is still just 0.7ft. It’s flat, folks. A real lull.
We finally get a pulse of energy on Wednesday 22nd July. The swell bumps up to 2ft to 2ft out of the SSE, and the combined energy finally climbs into the moderate range (102). The real highlight of the whole outlook is Wednesday 22nd July afternoon. The wind goes glassy calm, and the swell hits 2ft from the SSE. The waves are small, but the conditions are clean. That’s your best window for a longboard or a funboard if you just need to get wet.
From there, the swell does try to push up a bit more. Thursday 23rd July morning sees a 3ft SSE swell with glassy conditions again – the energy is up to 168. The wind is light and variable. It’s still small, but it’s the most surfable the beach will look for a while. Keep in mind, Campeche is a sandbar break that’s fairly consistent, and it draws from the south. The wind is mostly cross-off or glassy in these windows, which is a big plus.
The week gets messy after that. Friday 24th July sees a bump to 4ft and even 5ft, but the wind swings onshore from the south and SSE, making it choppy and ugly. The combined energy jumps to 277, but with that wind, it’s a write-off. Saturday 25th July morning cleans up with a cross-off wind from the north, and a 4ft SE swell – that’s a decent size, but the period is only 8 seconds, so it’s a bit short and lumpy. Still, if you’re desperate, that’s the next window.
The rest of the outlook into the second week is sketchy. The wind stays mostly cross-on, the swell drops back to 2ft or lower, and the energy is weak. Sunday 26th July and Monday 27th July are small and messy. The only real sniff of a clean wave is Thursday 30th July morning, with a 2ft SE swell and a cross-off wind from the NE, but the wind is strong at 16 mph. It’s not great.
Honestly, the standout here is Wednesday 22nd July afternoon. It’s not a big day, but it’s the cleanest, most glassy conditions we’ll see with the most reliable swell. The second best is Thursday 23rd July morning. After that, it’s a waiting game. This is a long, quiet stretch for Campeche. When it’s this flat and clean, it’s more of a paddle and a float than a surf. But that’s how it goes sometimes.
Stay patient, and check back for the next update.
Rusty.
