The Lowdown

Alright, let's get into it. The surf is looking a bit of a mixed bag here around Santinho over the next couple of weeks. There are some clean, glassy windows and some proper size, but also some periods where the wind is just going to mess things up or the swell gets too big for comfort.

We kick things off on Monday the 24th of August. Solid, grunty swell running at about 8ft from the SSE, with a lot of energy behind it (2192). The problem is the cross-onshore wind is going to have it pretty choppy. The forecast even says it might be too big for this break, so this one is really for the experienced crew only, and even then, it's not going to be clean.

The real standout window opens up on Tuesday the 25th. Tuesday morning, the wind goes absolutely glassy. The swell drops to a clean 6ft from the S with a decent 13-second period. This is the best call of the whole forecast. There's a lot of energy (959) but that glassy surface will make for some absolutely perfect, smooth walls. This is the session to aim for. The water temp is 67°, which is about normal for this time of year, so a decent 3/2mm wetsuit will be fine.

Things get tricky again from the 26th through to the 29th. On Wednesday the 26th, we get a long-period groundswell of 7ft from the SSE (1927 and 1910), which is prime energy for Santinho, but it's again flagged as potentially too big. The wind stays cross-offshore, keeping it clean, but the power is just a bit much. By Friday the 28th, the swell drops but the wind really picks up from the NNE, making for messy, marginal conditions across the weekend.

Look towards the end of the month. Sunday the 30th of August has a small window with a clean 5ft ENE swell and light offshore winds from the W. It’s not huge, but clean 5ft surf is always fun. Then, Monday the 31st has some more clean but smaller surf in the afternoon with a moderate offshore wind.

The first few days of September aren't great. Tuesday the 1st has another 8ft pulse from the S (big energy at 1262 and 1639), but it's onshore and choppy all day. The real promise for the second week comes on Thursday the 3rd of September. The morning is glassy again with a clean 3ft S swell and a lovely long 12-second period. That's a sneaky good low-tide bank session.

Later in the second week, Monday the 7th of September is worth noting. The afternoon session looks very good—clean cross-offshore wind and a clean 5ft SSE swell with a solid 12-second period (788). That's confidence-boosting.

So to boil it down: Tuesday morning the 25th of August is your absolute best bet—that glassy, 6ft south swell is the one to clear the calendar for. Monday afternoon the 7th of September is the other top call for the long-range. If you miss those, the clean, smaller windows on the 30th and 3rd are decent fallbacks.
