Alright, folks, Rusty here. We’ve got a mixed bag ahead at Santinho, but there are a couple of windows that’ll get your blood pumping. The water’s sitting at a chilly 61°, which is a whopping 6° colder than normal for this time of year – that’s seriously unusual, so you’ll want a decent steamer.
The best of the early run is hands-down Sunday the 12th, on the morning. We’re looking at a clean 5ft swell from the ESE with a period of 12 seconds. That’s a nice groundswell, with moderate energy humming in at 763. Winds are glassy-light from the WSW, so it’s going to be smooth as butter. This is the standout for the first week – get on it.
Things get a bit messy from Sunday afternoon onwards with shifting southerly winds and lumpy conditions. But don’t write the whole week off. Friday the 17th morning sees a return to clean, 5ft waves from the ENE (366 energy) under light NW winds. Then Saturday the 18th morning is also clean with 5ft ENE swell. Solid, fun waves.
Now, looking further out, there’s a nice pulse building for Thursday the 24th morning. That’s over a week away, so we’re in long-range territory, but it’s looking promising. We’ve got a clean 4ft swell from the SSE with a very long period of 14 seconds – that’s serious groundswell energy, 779 to be exact. This kind of long period will really wrap in and offer some power, but it might close out a bit at a beach break like this. Still, with glassy conditions, it’s a major contender.
A heads up for Saturday the 25th: the swell is forecast to pump up to 8ft from the S. That’s expert territory, and the model’s even saying it might be too big for this break, with messy cross-shore winds. Only for the very brave, and even then, maybe not.
So, to sum it up: Sunday morning 12th is your early winner. Friday morning 17th and Saturday morning 18th are solid follow-ups. And keep an eye on that long-period swell for Thursday 24th – if it holds, it’ll be the one to talk about.
Stay wet, stay stoked.
Rusty.
