Hey guys, Rusty here with the long-range look for the break. Let’s get into it.
It’s a slow start, but the second half of the window has some real meat. The big news is a strong south swell that shows up late in the month.
We kick off on Monday, July 13th morning at Ribanceira. There’s a clean 7ft of south swell with an 8-second period. Wind is a light offshore breeze from the west-southwest, so the surface will be tidy. The wave energy is 1089 – that’s a good solid push. It’s a fun, rideable day. The afternoon gets messy, so hit the morning.
Tuesday, July 14th morning the swell backs down to 6ft from the southeast, but the period stretches to 10 seconds. The wind is flat calm – glassy. Dead still. The wave energy is still a healthy 614. A total treat. Water temp is about average.
From Wednesday, July 15th through Monday, July 20th, the surf goes completely flat. The swell drops to nothing and the wind is rubbish – mostly onshore. Over a week of blank days. Nothing to do but wait.
Tuesday, July 21st shows a tiny 2ft south swell, but the period in the afternoon hits a very long 14 seconds, which is true groundswell. Light offshore wind. The wave energy is weak (282), so you’ll be hunting for scraps, but it’s a sign of life.
Wednesday, July 22nd is where it gets good. The morning has a clean 5ft southeast swell with a 12-second period and a light offshore wind from the southwest. Energy is 569. Good shape. The afternoon is even cleaner with the wind going near-still again and the swell at 4ft. A very solid day.
Then comes the standout. Saturday, July 25th morning. This is the one. 7ft of south swell, 10-second period, and glassy. Zero wind. The wave energy is 1530 – that’s a strong, powerful swell. For a sandbar, this is a prime session. A bit big for groms, but for everyone else, this is the day.
Sunday, July 26th morning is for the big dogs. 8ft of south-southeast swell with a 14-second period. The wind is a gentle offshore breeze from the southwest. The wave energy is a massive 2568 – that’s very strong. Big, powerful groundswell with clean conditions. Experts only, but it’s excellent. The afternoon stays clean with 7ft.
After that, the swell fades and the wind turns onshore again through the end of the month.
So your picks: Saturday, July 25th morning for the glassy, powerful session, and Sunday, July 26th morning for the biggest, cleanest groundswell of the run for those with the skill.
Rusty.
