Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ribanceira over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what Ribanceira is cooking up over the next couple weeks.
Right now, it’s a slow starter. The first real chance of a wave hits early Wednesday morning. It ain't gonna blow your mind, but there's something to ride. The water is sitting at 60°, which is 6° colder than normal for this time of year – that’s seriously unusual, so you’ll feel that chill.
Wednesday morning has clear skies and glassy conditions at Ribanceira – that’s a sandbar setup. Swell is 4ft from the south with a 9-second period, giving moderate wave energy around 361. It’s surfable, and with the offshore wind staying light, the surface will be clean. But it’s pretty ordinary overall. The afternoon sees a shift to onshore NE winds at 6 mph and the quality drops into marginal territory.
Thursday looks flat and messy. Morning brings a small 3ft ESE swell with a cross-on wind. By afternoon, the wind picks up to 12 mph and the waves stay tiny. Nothing to get excited about.
Friday morning is actually a step up – still small at 3ft from the ESE, but we get offshore SW wind at 6 mph and clean conditions. The period stretches to 12 seconds (a solid groundswell) and combined energy hits 344. It’s surfable but very ordinary. The afternoon holds similar size but the wind shifts cross-off, so not bad, but still just marginal.
Now, Saturday 11 July – this is where it gets interesting. The morning has zero wind, glassy as a mirror, with a 4ft ESE swell and a 13-second period. That’s a nice long-period groundswell and the combined energy jumps up to 782 – moderate-strong energy. Expect good surf. Afternoon stays clean but picks up a light onshore breeze, so the morning is the window.
Sunday 12 July keeps the run going. Morning glass again, NW wind at 3 mph, 4ft from the south with a 10-second period and 625 in energy. Clean, lined-up waves. The afternoon offers 4ft from the SSE and a cross-off breeze – more good surf.
Monday 13 July stands out as one of the best options in the whole outlook. The morning delivers 6ft from the SSE with a 9-second period, but it’s the offshore SSW wind at 9 mph that makes it clean and well-shaped. Combined energy is 645. This is solid, grunty surf for intermediate crew. Anything above 5ft can be a handful for beginners, so know your limits. The afternoon drops off a bit with shorter period and stronger cross-off wind.
Tuesday 14 July morning brings 5ft from the south, glassy, 8-second period, and 409 energy – decent but a little shorter period. The afternoon gets blown out with onshore wind.
From Wednesday 15 July onward, things go downhill. Small waves, mostly poor conditions, and cross-on winds dominate through to the end of the outlook. The last real pulse is Thursday 16 July afternoon, where we see 3ft from the SE, 12-second period, glassy conditions – but still just ordinary surf. After that, it’s a long stretch of poor surf until Thursday 23 July, when a new 4ft south swell arrives, but with cross-on wind keeping it poor.
So to sum it up: your standout windows are the mornings of Saturday 11 July, Sunday 12 July, and especially Monday 13 July for the bigger swell and offshore flow. The surf break is fairly consistent, so it won’t stay this poor for long, but the second week is a write-off.
Rusty.
