Praia do Gravatá Surf Forecast and Surf Report

G’day, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s coming at Praia do Gravata. This is a beginner-friendly break that’s very consistent, gets a good amount of swell, and works best with SE direction. The water temp is 20°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year – a nice surprise.

The start of the outlook is slow. Wednesday the 5th has a tiny 0.7m SSE swell with glassy surface, but the energy is weak (123) – it’s surfable but nothing special. Thursday the 6th morning is even smaller at 0.5m, still glassy, but barely a ripple. The afternoon turns cross-shore and messy. Friday the 7th is a total loss with strong cross and cross-onshore winds at 30 km/h and lumpy chop.

Saturday the 8th brings the first real pulse. A solid 2.2m SSE groundswell with a 14-second period and strong energy (1773) in the morning. Winds are cross-off from the NNE at 30 km/h, keeping it clean. This is big, powerful surf – way too much for beginners, this is expert territory. The afternoon stays clean with 1.9m and 13-second period (1225 energy) – still a solid option for skilled surfers.

Sunday the 9th drops to 1.9m but with a shorter 8-second period, cross-shore wind – a bit average. Monday the 10th and Tuesday the 11th have 1.5m to 2.0m S/SSE swell with moderate energy, but light cross-shore winds make for ripply conditions.

The standout is Wednesday the 12th morning. Glassy offshore wind from the west at just 5 km/h, with a clean 2.0m SSE groundswell at 12 seconds, strong energy (1190). Conditions are excellent for experienced surfers. The 2.0m is punchy, but with the long period and clean face, it’ll be offering quality waves. Thursday the 13th morning follows up with 1.3m SSE swell at 11 seconds, clean cross-off wind – good quality, though smaller.

From Friday the 14th through about Wednesday the 19th, it gets messy. Winds turn onshore or cross-shore with chop. There are some decent swell pulses – like a 2.2m SE on Friday afternoon and a 2.0m SSE on Saturday the 15th with very high energy (2522) – but the wind spoils them. Sunday the 16th and Monday the 17th mornings have clean cross-off winds again, but the swell is short-period (8-9 seconds) from ENE, which doesn’t suit this break well.

But Monday the 17th afternoon is a cracker. The wind drops to glassy – offshore from the north at 5 km/h – and we get a 2.5m ENE swell at 9 seconds, very strong energy (1960). That’s expert-only size, but glassy and powerful. For the crew who can handle it, that’s a session to remember. Tuesday the 18th and Wednesday the 19th fade in quality with smaller swell and choppy conditions.

So the best windows are Wednesday 12th morning and Monday 17th afternoon – both offering clean, powerful surf for experienced surfers. Everything else is a mix of small glassy days and windy slop.
