The Lowdown

Alright, let’s talk in feet and degrees.

This stretch of coast has Barra de Ibiraquera as the one to watch. Beach and point, fairly consistent, sheltered from the swell. Water temp is about normal for the time of year, no big swing.

The first real surfable day is Monday morning, September 14. Clean, chest to head-high south swell at 5ft, with a period of 11 seconds – some real power in those sets. Combined swell energy is moderate at (535). Light cross-offshore breeze from the WSW, so the waves will be clean and well-shaped. This is your top pick. Crowds are only “sometimes,” so you might have some room. The south swell is right in that optimum slot for the break.

Monday afternoon the wind shifts. Tuesday fades into smaller, choppy surf. Wednesday morning bumps back up to 5ft but with a short, weaker 8-second period – still some energy but marginal.

Then Thursday morning, September 17 – another beauty. 5ft south swell, 11-second period, moderate energy at (534). Light offshore from the NNE, glassy conditions. That’s proper quality surf again. Intermediates will be having fun.

After that, it gets small. Friday morning has 4ft and clean, but the period drops. The 19th and 20th are flat, with tiny swell and onshore wind. Mid-week after that is mostly ripple.

Further out, Thursday morning, September 24 stands out: glassy, 5ft east swell (though short period around 8 seconds). It’s cleaner than the surrounding days. A promising but not guaranteed option – keep an eye on it.

So, fire up Monday and Thursday down early on, and maybe Thursday the 24th if you’re patient. Not a total loss.

Rusty.
