The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for Quebra Mar over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be straight with you – it’s a lean run.

The water temp is sittin’ around 68°, which is about average for this time of year, nothin’ to write home about.

First up, we’ve got a bit of a gap before anything worth paddling out for. Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th are a write-off – onshore wind and poor surf conditions. Sunday the 26th morning shows a tiny 2ft south swell, but with glassy conditions and a very long 14-second period. That long period will bring some shape, but at this size it’s barely a ripple. The combined energy is moderate (242). It’s surfable, but only just.

Monday the 27th morning is similar – 2ft from the southeast, glassy, with a short period (8 seconds) and weak energy (101). It’s limp. After that, from Tuesday the 28th through to Saturday the 1st of August, it’s mostly below 2ft with poor surf. Sunday the 2nd of August has a brief pulse of 2ft from the ESE with a short period (7 seconds) and weak energy (67), but cross-onshore winds ruin it.

If there’s one tiny standout in this whole sorry picture, it’s Monday the 3rd of August morning. We see a 2ft south-southeast swell with a very long 15-second period, clean offshore wind from the north-northeast, and moderate energy (192). That long period is groundswell and will wrap into Quebra Mar nicely for a clean, slow, but rideable wave. It’s small, but that’s the best we’re gonna get. Still, for the majority of the time, the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddling when the onshores kick in and the wave quality drops.

Over the second week, the 5th of August afternoon has a bump of 4ft from the east with a short period (7 seconds) but clean conditions. It’s surfable but ordinary. Nothing else in that week grabs me. A long, quiet stretch for the paddle crew.

Signing off,
Rusty
