Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Canto do Moreira over the next couple of weeks.

The first few days are a bit of a mixed bag, but we’ve got a few real gems coming through. The water temp is about what you’d expect for this time of year, so nothing out of the ordinary there.

The action kicks off on Friday the 24th of July. It’s a slow start with a 4ft SSW swell on a short 8-second period – that’s pretty weak energy (224) and the light rain and cross-shore wind won’t help. The afternoon is a step up though. The wind goes glassy, the swell bumps to 5ft from the S, and the energy jumps to 385. That’s a solid improvement, and the first real window of clean surf.

Saturday the 25th is looking good too. The morning is glassy with a 4ft SSE swell and a 10-second period, giving us 360 energy. That’s a nice, clean combo. The afternoon gets a bit messy with an onshore wind, so the morning is the pick.

Now, Sunday the 26th of July is a standout. The morning is clear, glassy, with a 3ft S swell, but the period is a very long 14 seconds. That’s proper groundswell with 511 energy – it’s going to have some real punch for its size. This is a classic point break setup, so it’ll wrap in nicely. The afternoon is still clean but the wind turns onshore, so the morning is the winner.

Monday the 27th starts glassy with a 2ft S, 12-second swell (204 energy), which is a fun, clean morning session. It drops off after that, with the wind turning cross-onshore and the swell shrinking.

From Tuesday the 28th right through to the end of the month, we’re in a bit of a lull. Most days offer small, ordinary waves, often with tricky wind. Thursday the 30th has a chance of a thunderstorm, but the wind is okay. It’s a waiting game.

We get a bit of a pulse on Friday the 31st of July. The morning brings a 4ft S swell, 12-second period, and 438 energy. The wind is clean, cross-offshore. That’s a good session, but the wind goes cross in the afternoon.

Saturday the 1st of August is another clean morning with a 3ft S swell. It’s not huge, but the energy is 318 and the wind is favourable. A solid fun day.

Sunday the 2nd of August is a write-off with strong, choppy cross-onshore wind. Monday the 3rd bounces back with a glassy morning and a 3ft S swell, 12-second period, and 374 energy. That’s clean and lined up.

The best patch of the whole forecast, though, is Wednesday the 5th of August. Both morning and afternoon are firing with a 5ft S swell, a 10-second period, and massive energy readings of 620 in the morning and 585 in the afternoon. The wind is clean and cross-offshore. That’s the real highlight – a proper, powerful, clean swell for the experts and strong intermediates. It’s a bit over 5ft, so it’s not for beginners, but for anyone who can handle it, that’s the day to circle.

The rest of the second week fades out with smaller, ordinary waves and some cross-on wind. The final session on Saturday the 8th of August is glassy but small, with a 3ft SSE swell and only 119 energy. A quiet end to a run that had a couple of absolute crackers.

Best on offer: Sunday the 26th of July morning for the long-period groundswell in glassy conditions, and Wednesday the 5th of August for the bigger, powerful swell. Both mornings are the pick.
