Ponta da Pinheira Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Right, let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Ponta da Pinheira. I’m not gonna lie to ya, mate – it’s a pretty bleak stretch ahead. This spot is a point break, mostly for the intermediate crew, but it’s inconsistent and the next 16 days are not shaping up to offer much.

The overall pattern is flat and weak. We’ve got a long gap of tiny, poor surf right from the start. From Tuesday the 28th of July all the way through to the morning of Sunday the 2nd of August, the swell is barely registering – tiny waves around 1.0ft to 2ft, mostly from the ENE, with periods as short as 6 seconds. The combined energy is weak, sitting in the double digits, and it’s just poor surf conditions. Not even worth paddling out for.

Now, Sunday the 2nd of August morning shows a little flicker of hope. The swell bumps up to 3ft from the east, with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy reaches 100 – that’s still weak, but it’s the best we’ll see. The wind is glassy from the SSE, which is a major positive – it’ll be clean. The score is a 1, so it’s surfable but very ordinary. This is the only real standout, and even then, it’s a small one for the desperate.

After that, it’s back to the same story. The rest of the week into the second week is a mix of tiny swells, mostly under 2ft, with periods that rarely get over 9 seconds. The wind is often cross-on or onshore, making it choppy. There’s a brief moment on the 10th of August (Monday afternoon) where we get a 2ft swell from the ENE with glassy conditions, but the energy is still only 62. It’s more of the same: poor or very ordinary.

The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing wild.

Honestly, if you’re a kite surfer, the persistent onshore and cross-onshore winds on the bigger days might be more interesting, but for a paddle surfer, this is a tough run. It’s a blank run with no real quality on offer. The forecasts can change, but right now, I’d leave the boards at home for a bit.
