The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk about Praia de Palmas. I’ve had a good look at the charts and, honestly, it’s a pretty quiet stretch ahead. The whole 16-day window is basically a long flat spell with only brief moments of marginal surf. The water temperature is sitting at 66°F, which is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first real whisper of anything rideable comes on the morning of August 11th—that’s Tuesday in the second week. We’re looking at a tiny 2ft swell from the southeast with a period of 14 seconds. That kind of long period will give the wave a bit more shape, but the combined energy is only 106 (moderate), so it’s not exactly firing. The wind is glassy from the northwest, which is a huge plus for clean conditions. It’s a small window, but if you’re desperate for a paddle, that morning is your best bet.
Then on August 15th, Saturday morning, we get another small bump: 2ft from the south-southeast with a 9-second period, combined energy of 119 (moderate). Again, glassy conditions with a light southerly breeze. The swell is still small, but it’s the biggest we see the whole period, so it’s the standout by default. The angle is slightly better for the break, but the size is still very beginner-friendly.
The following day, August 16th Sunday morning, offers a 2ft southeast swell with a 13-second period, combined energy at 134 (moderate). Winds are light offshore from the west-southwest, so the surface will be clean. Another one of those “surfable but not special” windows.
Overall, this is a lean run for Palmas. The break is inconsistent at the best of times, and the forecast doesn’t do us any favours. If you’re a beginner or just want to sit on a longboard in glassy conditions, those mornings in the second week are your only real options. For everyone else, it’s a waiting game.
