Table - best surf conditions forecast for Barra da Lagoa over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab your board and listen up. This is Rusty, and I'm casting an eye over the local stretch at Barra da Lagoa for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, it's a grim picture for the foreseeable future. We've got a long, long dry spell ahead. The forecast is packed with "poor surf conditions" and no swell to speak of for the vast majority of the period. You’re looking at a gap of nearly two weeks before anything really worth paddling for shows up.
The water is feeling seriously weird right now. When the first surfable waves finally arrive, the water temp is sitting at 60°F, which is a massive 6°F colder than it should be for this time of year. That's not just a little nippy; that's a full-on cryotherapy session. You'll want a thick suit and booties, and you'll probably still be shivering.
Now, for the one and only true standout. After all that flat, miserable junk, the forecast flips completely on Monday, July 27th. The morning is looking like the diamond in the rough. A solid 8ft groundswell rolls in from the SSE with a very long 16-second period. That's a lot of water moving, and with a combined energy of 3458, it’s got some serious grunt behind it. The kicker? The wind is glassy. Dead calm. That is a massive positive. The sets will be clean, lined up, and powerful. Be warned though: at 8ft this is strictly for experienced surfers only. Beginners, stay on the sand for this one. The afternoon sees a light cross-onshore breeze and the same size swell, which will still be rideable, but the morning glass-off is the session to target.
Before that, there’s a tiny window. On Tuesday, July 14th, the morning has a clean 6ft swell from the SE with a 10-second period (moderate energy at 557), and a light offshore wind from the WSW. It's being called "good surf conditions," so it will be clean and rideable, but it's nothing compared to that 27th. The rest of that week and the following week is a write-off.
So here’s the bottom line: it’s a nearly 16-day wait for the main event. The best on offer is the glassy morning of the 27th with that big, long-period groundswell. Until then, you might as well find something else to do.
Rusty, signing off.
