Table - best surf conditions forecast for Barra da Lagoa over the next 16 days.
Righto, let's get stuck into it.
The forecast for this area starts with some decent swells right out of the gate on Friday, July 10th, but there's a long, dry spell coming after the first week, so don't get too comfortable.
Friday afternoon kicks things off at Barra da Lagoa. We’ve got a clean 3ft swell rolling in from the ESE with a long 12-second period. That's a proper groundswell, meaning good energy and shape. The water’s sitting at 60°, which is much colder than usual for this time of year, so a good wetsuit is a must. The combined swell energy is sitting at 448 (moderate wave energy), and with a light cross-offshore breeze, the conditions are looking pretty clean. It’s a beginner-friendly wave, but it can get crowded here – so expect some company.
Moving into Saturday morning, the swell builds to 5ft from the ESE with an even longer 13-second period. Combined energy jumps to 700 (moderate wave energy). The wind, however, shifts to a cross-shore, and the forecast is a bit marginal. Not the best window. Saturday afternoon sees it drop back to 3ft and a messy cross-onshore wind takes over – I’d sit that one out.
Sunday morning, July 12th, is a real standout. The swell drops a touch to 4ft from the ESE, but it’s still got a lovely 12-second period. Combined energy is a strong 732 (moderate wave energy) and the wind is light and cross-offshore again, making for clean lines. This is the best of the early period. The morning will be worth the dawn patrol. Sunday afternoon gets blown out by a strong southerly wind, so get your session in early.
Monday is small – 3ft to 3ft – with clean but ordinary conditions. It's surfable, but nothing to write home about.
Tuesday, July 14th, is the best on offer for the whole run. Tuesday morning, the swell jumps up to 6ft from the SE with a period of 10 seconds. Combined energy is a solid 890 (moderate wave energy). The wind is a light cross-offshore from the west, keeping the surface glassy. That’s clean, punchy surf. It's getting into the size range that might be a bit much for beginners, though. Tuesday afternoon the swell peaks at 7ft from the SE with 11-second period and the combined energy hits 990 (moderate wave energy). The wind goes cross-shore, so the quality is marginal, but the size is there.
After Tuesday, it’s a slow decline. Wednesday and Thursday still have some size (5ft to 6ft), but the wind gets messy, turning cross-onshore and choppy. Not great.
From Friday, July 17th, onward, it really drops off. We’re looking at a massive gap with nearly no surf. The swell sizes fall to 2ft and smaller, with periods dropping to 10 seconds or less. The wind is mostly cross-onshore, and the combined energy plummets (down to 10 or even 0). This stretch just isn't worth paddling out for. There’s a small bump of 2ft windswell around July 21st and 22nd, but it’s short period (5-6 seconds) and lacks any real power – combined energy is only around 20. The rest of the run into July 25th stays tiny and weak.
So to wrap it up, your best bet is Tuesday, July 14th, particularly the morning session, with the biggest and cleanest swell of the period. Sunday morning, July 12th, is a close second. Otherwise, it’s a blank run for the second week and beyond.
Stay stoked.
Rusty.
