The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's break down the next two weeks of surf. We've got some serious potential on the horizon, but we gotta be patient and pick our windows. There's a bit of a lull to start, so don't be in a rush.
The first few days are just a write-off, to be honest. Small, weak swell and the wind is all over the place with some rain. Not worth paddling out for.
Our first real chance comes on Thursday the 10th. The morning is looking clean with a light cross-offshore breeze. We're looking at a 4ft south swell at 12 seconds, a nice pulse of energy (421). Not huge, but it should be clean and fun if you can get out there before the onshores kick in later.
Friday the 11th is where things start to get good. The morning is the pick of the first week. A 4ft south swell at 14 seconds is filling in – that's some proper groundswell. There's a gentle NE cross-offshore wind keeping it glassy and lined up. Energy is climbing too (756). This is the one to circle.
After that, the weekend gets messy again. A stronger SW wind on Saturday will chop it up, and while Sunday sees a jump in size to 5ft, the wind is just wrong – cross-onshore and lumpy.
Now for the big one. Looking ahead to Thursday the 17th. This is a serious day for experienced surfers only. We're expecting a massive 10ft south swell in the morning with the energy meter going through the roof (2786). The morning wind is a bit cross, making it a handful. But the afternoon could be the best wave of the whole forecast. The swell drops slightly to a still-hefty 8ft, the wind swings clean offshore, and the conditions are looking excellent. This is big, powerful surf. If you're not confident, don't even think about it.
The week after that has some consistent, but smaller, surf. Nothing will top that Thursday, but we do get some clean mornings with moderate NE cross-offshore winds. There's a window on Tuesday the 24th with a clean 7ft southeast swell that looks promising for the morning, with light offshore winds keeping it tidy.
So, to sum it up: skip the early stuff. Save your energy for Friday morning the 11th, and if you're an expert, don't miss Thursday afternoon the 17th. That's the one that'll be talked about.
