The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it. We’re looking at a pretty quiet stretch ahead for Wooden Jetties. Honestly, for the next week and a half, it’s mostly flat or just tiny, messy windswell. The water is a warm 78° – that’s *much warmer than normal* for this time of year, so at least a dip will feel good even if the waves aren’t playing ball.
Right now, through Friday the 17th, it’s glassy in the morning with a tiny 0.3ft SE swell, but the energy is weak (15). It’s really just a lake paddle. Saturday the 18th is a write-off with a risk of thunderstorms and a 4ft windswell from the south, but the period is a shocking 5 seconds – that’s just junky, gutless chop. Not worth your time.
We finally get a bit of a pulse on Wednesday morning, July 22nd. The swell jumps to 7ft from the south, with a period of 8 seconds and a solid 884 combined energy. That’s moderate-to-strong energy. The wind is a clean cross-offshore from the west, which should keep the surface clean. But that 7ft is pushing into expert-only territory – it’s going to be a serious handful. The jetty setup might offer some shape, but it’s not a beginner’s day. The afternoon drops to 4ft, still clean, but the energy is lower (203).
Thursday the 23rd morning has a light offshore wind from the NNW, but the swell is only 3ft with 88 energy. It’s surfable, but ordinary. The rest of the run into the end of July and start of August is either tiny, choppy, or onshore. There’s a small window on Tuesday afternoon, July 28th, with a moderate offshore wind and a 2ft SE swell, period 10 seconds – but the energy is only 63. It’s clean, but small.
The only real standout here is Wednesday morning, July 22nd. That’s the one day with size and clean wind. If you’re an experienced surfer, that’s your window. For everyone else? This stretch is a long gap of flatness and frustration. Just keep the board waxed and hope the next system brings something better.
Rusty.
