Table - best surf conditions forecast for Wooden Jetties over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way over the next couple of weeks.
First off, the honest truth – it’s a grim run for Wooden Jetties. Through the entire 16-day window, the score never once climbs above a zero. That means there isn’t a single session I’d recommend paddling out for. The combined swell energy stays weak for almost the whole stretch, with most readings under 100 – a lot of them sitting in the teens, twenties and thirties – and only a few days in the second week push into the moderate range. But even then, the surf quality is rated poor each time.
We start with Friday the 10th. The morning has a tiny 1.0 ft swell from the east at 8 seconds – that’s short period, weak energy (23). Light offshore wind from the WNW keeps it clean, but there’s hardly any push. The afternoon swaps to a 2 ft southerly with only 6 seconds and 72 energy. Still not doing much. Saturday the 11th is a write-off with onshore cross-shore winds picking up into the moderate range and swell dropping back to 1.0 ft – 2 ft. The rest of that first week stays in the same rut: small swell, often cross or onshore wind, poor conditions.
The water temperature on Friday the 10th sits at 77°F, which is about 6°F warmer than normal – that’s very unusual for the time of year. So if you’re just floating around, it’s bathwater, but the surf won’t help you.
Moving into the second week – from around Tuesday the 21st, we start seeing the combined energy jump up. Tuesday morning the 21st has 4 ft from the ESE at 7 seconds, with 259 energy – that’s a moderate pulse. The wind is cross-offshore from the NE, so it’s clean. But it’s still labelled poor surf. That afternoon, the onshore wind kicks in and it gets choppy. Wednesday the 22nd through Thursday the 23rd keeps the swell around 3 ft to 4 ft, energy in the 100-140 range, but winds are cross or onshore, ruining any shape.
By Friday the 24th, we see a 5 ft NE swell in the morning (233 energy) with a cross-shore wind, and then the afternoon swaps to a 3 ft SSE swell (265 energy) and that period stretches to 9 seconds – the longest in the whole forecast. Wind turns cross-offshore from the west, so it’s clean. But even then, the quality rating is still poor. After that, the swell drops back again.
So to put it bluntly, there’s nothing to get excited about. Wooden Jetties is a beach and jetty setup, and with these winds and small, short-period swells, the ocean’s just not cooperating. If you’re into kiting, maybe watch the afternoons from the 21st to the 24th when the wind gets up and the swell has a bit more energy – that could be more interesting for a kite than a paddle.
We’ve got a long few weeks ahead. Hang in there – forecasts can change, and it rarely stays this flat forever.
