Alright folks, same story but in feet and miles. Rusty here.
This is a grim stretch for the local area. A long, frustrating run of small, messy surf that’s just not worth getting wet for. The water is a standout though, sitting at an unusual 79°, much warmer than normal for the season.
It starts Sunday the 5th with waves barely a foot high and a light cross-on breeze—total waste of time. Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th are still tiny and weak, with a glassy spell on Tuesday morning that won’t have a thing to surf. Wednesday through Thursday stays choppy and blown out. A rough start.
Friday the 10th offers a tiny flicker of hope. Morning brings a clean cross-off breeze on 2ft waves, and by the afternoon the wind turns offshore (WNW) and clean. It’s small, but it’s the first time the conditions line up at all. Still, the energy is weak.
Then it’s back to ordinary. The swell tries to build Monday the 13th with 5ft waves and moderate energy, but the cross-shore wind just chops it up. That lumpy, messy pattern holds until around Thursday the 16th, when we get another offshore breeze, but the swell drops back under a foot.
The only thing worth mentioning, and it’s a long wait, is Sunday the 19th of July. The swell jumps to 7ft out of the S with a huge energy reading of 828. That’s real power. But the cross-onshore wind is going to trash the face. For a beach/jetty spot like Wooden Jetties, 7ft with that wind is a ragged mess for experts only. It honestly looks better for the kite surfers than paddle surfers.
Monday the 20th cleans up a little with a light cross-off breeze on 3ft waves, but it’s nothing special. The whole two-week window is a dud—no good, clean, rideable surf on offer.
Rusty out.
