G’day, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – this 16-day window is a tough one for Wooden Jetties. We’re looking at a real flat spell with hardly any rideable surf, and what little pops up is mostly messy.
The whole first week is pretty much a write-off. Swell is tiny and short-period, with most days seeing waves under 2 ft. The combined energy is low – down around 11 to 81 – just not enough push for a decent wave. Winds are almost constantly cross or cross-onshore, chopping up the surface. There’s a glimmer on Saturday afternoon, 4th July, with glassy conditions and a 1.0 ft SE swell, but it’s just too small to get excited about.
Heading into the second week, things don’t improve much. Swell stays marginal, mostly under 3 ft, with poor surf conditions flagged for every session. The only slight bright spot is Sunday afternoon, 11th July, when we finally get offshore winds (WNW at 6 mph) and a clean-looking 3 ft S swell. The combined energy nudges up to 80 – still weak, but with clean lines, there might be a knee-high roller to yourself. Crowds are only “sometimes” an issue here, and the break is fairly consistent for this area, so you could score a sneaky solo session.
Beyond that, the rest of the month looks flat and lumpy, with more cross-onshore winds and tiny waves. Given the overall weakness of the swell, the short periods, and the poor quality, there’s nothing here that’s really worth paddling out for. If you’re desperate, that Sunday 11th July afternoon is the only real chance for a clean wave, but don’t expect much.
Rusty.
