Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’m not gonna sugarcoat it—this stretch for Wooden Jetties is a tough one. For the next couple of weeks, we’re looking at a whole lot of nothing special. The forecast is basically a flat spell with only a few flickers of life, and even those are pretty average. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Starting off on Tuesday the 7th, it’s all pretty hopeless. We’ve got a weak, short-period ENE swell pushing in around 3 ft, but it’s coming with a cross-shore NE breeze that’s messing it up. The combined energy is weak (67–69), and the wave comment says it all: poor surf conditions. Wednesday the 8th isn’t any better—still a small 3 ft E swell with a cross-shore wind, though the afternoon goes clear with a light ESE offshore. That’s a glimmer of clean conditions, but the swell’s tiny (3 ft) with a period of just 7 seconds, and the energy is still weak (99). Not worth paddling out for.
Thursday the 9th drops off even more—2 ft to 2 ft from the E, with onshore or cross-onshore winds. Clean it is not. Friday the 10th has a tiny 1 ft SSE swell, but the wind swings cross-offshore and the conditions are clean—still, that’s barely a ripple (18–36 energy). Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th are more of the same: small, messy, and poorly directed. The swell hangs around 1 ft to 1 ft, and on the 12th we get a strong 25 mph cross-onshore breeze that’s just nasty.
Now, there is a brief moment on Monday the 13th. We’ve got a clean, offshore NW wind (22 mph) and a tiny 1 ft SE swell with a 10-second period. The combined energy is only 19–20, but the conditions are clean and that longer period gives it a bit more shape. For a total flat spell, it’s the best we get, but honestly, you’d be lucky to find a wave you can ride. Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th are back to tiny, choppy junk.
We then hit a gap—almost a week of nothing worth mentioning. Thursday the 16th brings a small 3 ft ENE swell, but it’s short-period (5–6 seconds) and cross-shore winds make it sloppy. Friday the 17th is clean and cross-offshore, but still only 2 ft. The real standout comes on Saturday the 18th in the morning. That early session is glassy—dead calm, wind from the SE at just 3 mph—with a 2 ft S swell. The combined energy is only 34, but glassy conditions at Wooden Jetties are a rare treat. If you’re desperate for a paddle and some tiny waves, that’s your window. The swell’s from the S, which isn’t the optimum SE direction, but it’s clean and calm.
Sunday the 19th is back to clean in the morning with a light N breeze, but it’s still small (2 ft, 7-second period). Then we get another gap of quiet days until Tuesday the 22nd, where the pickings are still slim—small, choppy, and cross-onshore.
Honestly, the only surf worth even looking at is the glassy Saturday morning of the 18th. That’s your one chance for a clean, calm session, even if the waves are tiny. For everything else, you’re better off waiting for a better forecast. Stay tuned, though—it’ll turn around eventually.
Rusty.
