Alright, this is Rusty. Let me tell you, it’s a bit of a tough stretch ahead for Bradley Beach. We’re looking at a long, quiet spell to start, with nothing really worth paddling out for. The first few days are pretty much a write-off, with small, messy windswell and onshore or cross-onshore winds making a mess of things. You’re looking at a solid week of “poor surf conditions” before we even get a sniff of something surfable.
We do get a short window of cleaner conditions, but it’s not exactly gonna have you calling in sick. On Thursday morning, July 9th, the wind swings light cross-offshore from the SSW and the surf cleans up, but it’s tiny. We’re talking 2 ft of weak, short-period E swell (combined energy of 50). It’s surfable, but very ordinary. The real standout for the whole 16 days, and I mean the only real glimpse of hope, is Friday morning, July 10th. The wind goes completely dead, glassy calm, and the water will be like a mirror. The swell is still pretty small, 2 ft from the S with a short period of 6 seconds (combined energy of 55), but the glassy conditions make it rideable. It’s not big, it’s not powerful, but for a summer morning with no wind, you could have a fun little session on a log. The water temperature is about average for this time of year, so no need for a thick suit.
After that, it’s back to the doldrums. For the rest of the second week, we’ve got a mix of small, weak swell and onshore winds. There’s a spike of bigger, choppy energy on Saturday, July 18th, with 6 ft swell from the S, but the wind is howling onshore from the SE, creating a messy, blown-out, 282 combined energy zone. That’s more of a kite-surfing day than a paddle session. Honestly, for anyone looking for a proper wave, this forecast is a long wait for very little reward. Keep your board waxed, but don’t get your hopes up.
Rusty.
