The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s shaking for the next stretch.
First off, I gotta be straight with you – the outlook for Bradley Beach is a tough one. We’re looking at a long, lean spell to start. From now until the end of August, the surf is just not cooperating. There’s a whole lot of nothing and a whole lot of poor conditions. The wind is all over the place, mostly onshore or cross, and the swell is tiny and weak. The combined wave energy is barely a whisper, with values like 43 (moderate energy) and 63 (moderate energy) – it’s just not enough for a proper paddle. You’ll be waiting a long time, with a solid gap of over a week of just flat and messy water.
The first real glimmer of anything comes on the 2nd of September, but it’s still a tough call. The swell picks up to 1.4m (5ft) from the ESE, but it’s a short period windswell of 7 seconds, and the wind is cross to cross-onshore, which is going to chop it up. The energy is building, sure, hitting 206 (moderate energy) on the Wednesday morning, but it’s still marginal. The conditions are just ordinary.
The standout window, if you can call it that, is the 4th of September. We’re looking at a 1.3m (4ft) swell from the East with an 8-second period and a clean cross-offshore wind. That’s about as good as it gets in this whole forecast. The combined energy is 223 (moderate energy), which is the best we’ll see, but it’s still just a marginal day. The water temp is a notable 78°F, which is a full 5°F warmer than usual – that’s pretty unusual for this time of year, so at least you’ll be warm while you’re not catching waves.
Look, this is a tough period for Bradley Beach. The consistency is poor, the overall quality is low. It’s a beach and jetty setup, and with the wind and small swell, it’s not looking like a classic surf window. The early part of the window is a write-off. The 4th of September is your best bet, but keep your expectations in check. It’s one of those times where you might be better off waiting for the next forecast update.
Rusty.
