The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, the start of the period is a bit of a flat spell with nothing really happening. The first day with anything worth a paddle is Tuesday the 15th, and even then it's pretty grim. The swell is tiny, only 1 foot, and the wind is cross-off, so the surf is clean but there's just no power. We're looking at weak energy (14) and it's going to be a struggle to get a ride. You're better off waiting it out.
The pattern continues for a few days with these small, weak swells. There's a bit of a tease on Friday the 18th with a glassy 2 foot swell, but the period is short and the energy is still low (29). It's a flat spell for sure, with not much to recommend for a solid week.
Now, things start to get interesting around Tuesday the 22nd and Wednesday the 23rd. The swell picks up, and we see some size. The standout window is actually Wednesday the 22nd morning. The swell is solid at 7 feet from the South, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy jumps right up to a strong 766. The wind is a clean cross-off from the West, so the conditions will be good. This is the one to aim for, but you need to be an experienced surfer at this size. The water is sitting at 67° which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year.
After that, the swell backs off again. We get a small pulse on the 24th and 25th, but it's messy with cross-on winds and choppy conditions. The second week of the outlook is a write-off, with small, weak swells and predominantly cross-off winds. The energy stays low, and the surf is just not worth the effort.
So, to sum it up, the only real standout is Wednesday the 22nd of July with that solid 7-foot South swell. It's a one-day wonder, and it's for the experts. The rest of the 16 days, you're looking at a lot of flat, clean but small conditions. It's a tough stretch.
Rusty.
