Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what North Bar has in store for us.
First off, I have to be straight with you: the water temp anomaly is not given, so I can't tell you if it's warmer or cooler than usual for this time of year.
Right now, we're looking at a real flat spell to kick things off. For the first week and a half, from July 7th right through to the morning of July 18th, there's basically nothing worth paddling out for. The wave energy is weak, topping out at a modest 263 (moderate) on the afternoon of the 7th, but that comes with strong onshore winds and messy, poor surf. You'll see a few small bumps here and there, but the "poor surf conditions" tag is on almost everything, and the scores are all zeros. It's a long, quiet stretch.
The first glimmer of hope shows up on the morning of Saturday, July 18th. We get a small, clean bump of swell from the SSE at 3ft, with a period of 8 seconds. The wind is light offshore from the SW, which is exactly what we want to see. The wave energy is still low at 87 (weak), but it's clean and surfable. It's not a standout, but after all that flatness, you might get a few fun ones on a longboard.
The real highlight of this outlook lands on the morning of Monday, July 20th. This is the standout. We’ve got a little S swell at 3ft with an 8-second period. The wind goes glassy – absolutely dead calm from the NW. That's as good as it gets for conditions. The combined wave energy jumps to 196 (moderate), which is the highest we see in the whole period for a clean session. For a beach and reef setup like North Bar, that glassy morning is a rare treat. The swell direction from the south is a bit off the optimum (E), but when it's glassy like that, you take what you can get. The crowds here are listed as "sometimes," so you might have a few other heads out, but with clean conditions and a bit of energy, it could be a lovely morning session.
Overall, it's a long wait for a small window. The standout is that glassy Monday morning on the 20th. If you're an intermediate, that’s your target. The rest of the run into the 22nd looks poor again with onshore winds and choppy conditions.
