Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Hey folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this Block Island outlook is a tough one. The entire 16-day window is a bit of a dud, with no real surf worth chasing. I’ve scanned every day, and every session comes back with a score of zero. It’s a long stretch of nothing to get excited about.
The first potential surf shows up on Sunday, July 5th, but it’s a poor start. We’re looking at a tiny 1 ft swell out of the SE with a short 8-second period, and a cross-onshore wind from the ESE at 9 mph making it choppy. The combined wave energy is a measly 27 – weak as dishwater. Not a chance.
Monday, July 6th, sees a bit more size, with swell building to 6 ft on Monday morning and 8 ft in the afternoon from the ESE, but the wind is howling from the east at 25 mph, creating a messy, cross-shore chop. The combined energy jumps to 223 and then 471, but it’s all wind and no quality. For experts only, and even then, it’s not inviting.
Tuesday, July 7th, offers clean conditions with a cross-offshore wind from the NE at 28 mph, but the swell is still a lumpy 6 ft from the E/ENE with a short 7-second period. The energy is moderate (329–338), but with that wind strength, it’s more of a kite-surfing setup than a paddle session. The same goes for Wednesday morning, July 8th, when the wind drops to a light 6 mph from the NNE, but the swell is down to 4 ft and the period is still short.
The rest of the forecast is more of the same: small swells, short periods, and mostly onshore or cross-shore winds. The best we see is a glimmer on Friday, July 10th, with a gentle 9 mph offshore wind from the NNW and a 3 ft swell from the SSW, but the combined energy is only 70 – not enough to make it worthwhile. Every day is marked as “poor surf conditions” with a score of zero.
There are no standouts here, folks. The spot is rarely breaks, and this stretch proves it. The water temp is around 67°F, which is about average for this time of year, but that’s cold comfort. It’s a blank run, and for this area, that’s not unusual. Keep your hopes up, though – forecasts can always change.
Rusty.
