Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for Block Island over the next few weeks. Gotta be honest with you straight up – this one’s a tough stretch. There’s not a single standout session in the whole 16-day window. The forecast is a long, flat, choppy mess with hardly a window of clean, rideable surf. We’re looking at a blank run from now, starting Friday July 3rd, right through to Saturday July 18th. That’s a solid two weeks with nothing worth paddling out for.
The energy in the water is weak for the first week, with combined swell energy values barely scraping past 100 (like 91 on Friday morning, 100 Friday afternoon). Even when we see a bump in size around Tuesday July 7th, with waves hitting 6.2 ft from the ESE, the period is a short 6 seconds and the wind is cross-onshore. That combo gives you messy, lumpy lines – more of a kite-surfing setup than a paddle session. The combined energy on that Tuesday hits 269 (moderate), but the quality just isn’t there with onshore winds and rain.
Water temps around the island are sitting at about 65.7°F, which is pretty normal for this time of year – nothing weird going on there.
We get another pulse of size around Wednesday July 15th, with swell going 5.9-7.2 ft from the south, combined energy pushing up to 440 (strong). But again, the wind is howling from the SW at 15-16 mph and it’s cross-onshore. That’s big, blown-out, lumpy slop. Not for beginners (anything over 5 ft is getting too much for them), and honestly not much fun for anyone unless you’re on a tow board.
There is absolutely no day with glassy or offshore wind conditions and a decent swell. The few mornings with clean conditions, like Saturday July 4th morning, have waves a tiny 1.3 ft from the SE – barely a ripple.
Block Island (point) is an exposed spot that rarely breaks, and with this outlook, it lives up to that reputation. No standout options. No hidden gems. Just a long, quiet spell.
Hang tight, folks. It tends not to stay this poor forever, and forecasts can shift. But for now, leave the boards in the van.
