Table - best surf conditions forecast for Castles over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s be straight with you – the next 16 days at Castles are a real mixed bag, and for the most part, it’s looking pretty flat or messy. There’s no standout, must-paddle session here, but we’ll break it down day by day so you know what you’re dealing with.
The first real chance of anything surfable doesn’t come until Friday, July 10th. The whole first half of the week is a write-off – tiny, choppy, and cross-onshore. Honestly, it’s a bit of a bummer. The water temp is a warm 77°, which is about 6° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s very unusual, so you can leave the thick wetsuit at home.
Friday the 10th morning offers the first glimmer of hope. The wind swings light and clean from the west, and we’ve got a small 3 ft southerly swell pushing in. It’s only surfable, not great, but the conditions are clean. The combined wave energy is weak (82), so it’ll be a longboard or funboard kind of day. By Friday afternoon, the swell bumps up a touch to 3 ft from the south, with a bit more energy (128), but it’s still a very ordinary situation.
Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th are back to poor conditions – small, choppy, and cross-shore. The swell tries to build a bit on Sunday afternoon with 4 ft from the east, but the wind is a mess.
The next potential window is Wednesday, July 15th. The morning stays clean with a light cross-offshore breeze, but the swell is only 3 ft from the south-southwest, and the period is a short 5 seconds. That’s weak, gutless energy. By the afternoon, the swell jumps to 5 ft from the same direction, and the energy kicks up to 172 – moderate. But the wind becomes a messy cross-shore, which is going to chop it up. At 5 ft, this is still plenty manageable for most intermediates, but the quality won’t be there.
After that, the outlook goes flat again. From the 16th of July all the way through to the 23rd, wave heights mostly stay under 2 ft, and the energy drops to barely a ripple. There are some glassy moments on the 19th and 20th, but with only 0.7 ft to 3 ft and no push, it’s not worth paddling out for.
Bottom line: there’s no real standout in this 16-day window. The best bet is clean Friday morning (July 10th) or a hopeful look at the bumpy Wednesday afternoon (July 15th), but neither is anything to write home about. For a beginner-friendly sandbar that’s fairly consistent, it’s a rough run. The water is warm, but the surf is not.
Rusty.
