Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight – we’ve got a long, flat spell ahead for Castles. This sandbar break is usually fairly consistent, but the models are showing almost nothing worth paddling out for over the next two and a half weeks. The water’s way warmer than normal for this time of year – sitting at 77°F with a 7°F anomaly – but that’s little comfort when the waves are junk.
The first few days? Forget it. Sunday the 5th has a tiny 1ft SE swell with a cross-onshore breeze – total mush. Monday morning the 6th goes glassy but the swell drops to 3ft and period is a paltry 5 seconds – no push, no shape, labelled “poor surf conditions.” Tuesday the 7th sees a bump to 5‑5ft from the NE, but the wind is cross-off and the energy is still weak (134‑180). The models call it clean but still “poor surf conditions” – probably fat and sectiony. Wednesday and Thursday stay small and choppy. Friday the 10th morning goes glassy again with 3ft S swell, but again no period (5‑6s) – you might get a knee‑high closeout.
The second week doesn’t get much better. Saturday the 11th has 5ft NE swell but cross‑shore wind and a moderate chop (energy 237 – moderate). Still rated poor. Sunday the 12th fades. Monday the 13th tiny. Tuesday the 14th has clean cross‑off wind but only 3ft – weak energy (91). Wednesday and Thursday the 15‑16th are similar. By Friday the 17th we finally see energy nudge into triple digits (122) with a 3ft S swell, but the wind is cross‑onshore and it’s still “poor surf conditions.”
The only faint glimmer comes on Monday the 20th – more than two weeks away. Morning brings light offshore from the NW, 3ft ENE swell, period a short 5 seconds, energy 86. The call is “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” That’s the best we’ve got – clean but tiny and weak. It’s not worth a dedicated trip. Crowds are sometimes a factor here, but on a day like that you’ll likely have it to yourself.
Overall, a blank run like this is unusual for a fairly consistent spot, but forecasts shift. Keep an eye out – it tends not to stay poor for long. Hang tight.
