Table - best surf conditions forecast for St Andrews State Park over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s talk about what’s happening at St Andrews State Park.
Right now, we’re looking at a pretty flat and frustrating stretch. The water is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 87°, but that’s about the only thing worth getting excited about. For the first week, honestly, there’s nothing to run for. Thursday kicks off with tiny 1 ft windswell from the WSW, a 3-second period, and combined energy of just 3 – that’s barely a ripple. The wind is on it, and the surf is poor. Friday morning offers a slight improvement with a 7-second period from the S, but the swell height is only 0.7 ft and the energy is still a sad 6. The wind is on it, making it junk.
We’ve got a gap of about a week of poor, small surf. Saturday (11th) sees a slight bump to 1 ft from the S, but with cross-on winds and a period of 6 seconds, it’s just messy. By Sunday (12th), it’s the same story. The mornings of the 13th and 14th do offer some glassy conditions, but the swell is so small—2 ft and 2 ft—that it’s not worth paddling out for. The energy is still very weak.
The only real standout in this whole 16-day window leans towards the second week. On Thursday, the 16th of July, the afternoon shows a pulse of 5 ft swell from the SW with a 6-second period, and the combined energy climbs to 123 (moderate). The wind is a moderate cross-onshore, so it’ll be a bit choppy, but this is the biggest we’re going to see. This is a beach and jetty setup, and with that period, it’s not going to be a groundswell beauty, but if you’re desperate, it’s the only game in town. For a beginner, 5 ft is fine; for experts, it’s nothing special.
Friday the 17th still has some 3 ft leftover from the SW, but the energy drops to 49. By the 20th, we’re back to glassy mornings but with tiny 2 ft swell. The 21st shows a glassy afternoon with a 2 ft, but it’s just not enough.
Honestly, the whole 16-day forecast is a dud. If you’re a kite surfer, those afternoons with moderate cross-onshore winds might look interesting, but for a paddle surfer, I’d leave the board at home. The consistency is there for small waves, but the quality is never there. It’s a poor run for the area.
Rusty.
