The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's cookin' for St Andrews State Park.
Overall Pattern
Honestly, mate, I'm lookin' at a pretty flat spell stretchin' out for a long while. The next two weeks are gonna be a real test of patience for anyone with a board. There's a whole lot of nothin' on the horizon. The first couple of days are just plain poor, and the pattern doesn't look like it wants to change much. We're talking about a long, dry gap with barely a ripple worth mentioning all the way through the end of the month.
The Outlook
It's pretty grim from the start. Saturday, July 18th, we've got a tiny 1.0ft of swell from the WNW, but it's a weak 4-second period. The wind is onshore from the SSW at 6 mph, so the water's gonna be a messy, bumpy mess. The combined energy is a measly (4), basically a lake. The water temp is 86°, which is about as normal as it gets for this time of year.
The next week is more of the same. Mornings and afternoons through the 25th of July just keep throwin' up tiny waves – we're talking 0.7ft to 3ft at best. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-on, and with periods between 4 and 6 seconds, there's just no push or shape. There's a moment on Friday morning, July 24th, where the wind goes light offshore from the NNE at 3 mph, which is a beautiful thing for clean conditions, but the swell is a pathetic 1.0ft. It just doesn't have any power to make it worthwhile.
Heading into the last week of July and into August, the story doesn't change. We're stuck with tiny, weak swells, mostly from the SW and WSW, with short periods. The wind is a constant issue, mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and often gusty with the risk of thunderstorms. The combined energy figures are all in the single digits or low teens – that's barely enough to move a piece of seaweed.
The Highlight (If You Can Call It That)
Honestly, there's no standout. The best of a bad bunch is probably Wednesday, July 22nd. You'll get a 3ft swell from the SW, which is the biggest pulse we see. But the period is a short 5 seconds, and the wind is onshore from the SW at 9-12 mph, so it's gonna be a lumpy, wind-affected mess. It's a beach/jetty setup, so with that onshore wind, it's gonna look more like a washing machine than a wave. The combined energy is only (38), so it's weak and unappealing. This is really just for the most desperate crew.
Even the very end of the outlook, on Sunday, August 2nd, has a glassy morning with a dead calm sea, but the swell is just 1.0ft from the WSW. It's pretty, but unsurfable.
Final Word
This is a tough one. It's a long, flat run. For a spot that's usually consistent, this is a real dud. The best bet is to leave the boards in the car and just watch the sunsets. Sometimes the forecasts can change, but right now, there's not a single wave I'd paddle out for.
Rusty.
