Table - best surf conditions forecast for St Andrews State Park over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for your local stretch.
Honestly, mate, it’s a tough run. For the next 16 days, we’re looking at a real flat spell with nothing that’s even worth paddling out for. The first recommendation is for St Andrews State Park, and it’s a pretty grim picture for the whole period. The water temp is sitting at 88°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only interesting thing.
From Wednesday the 8th right through the end of the forecast, the surf is either tiny or non-existent. We’ve got a long gap with no real surf to speak of. The combined swell energy is weak, with values mostly under 20 (single-digit and low double-digit figures right through). The short period swells, mostly 4 to 7 seconds, mean the waves are weak and mushy.
The best of a bad bunch might be Tuesday the 14th afternoon, when the swell bumps up to 5 ft from the WSW, with a combined energy of 138 (moderate). But even then, the wind is onshore from the SW and the conditions are called “poor”. That’s too big for beginners and only just getting interesting for the crew on a shortboard, but the onshore wind is going to be messy.
The absolute standout, if you can call it that, is Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th. On Sunday morning, we get a clean 2 ft from the west with a light offshore from the N. The energy is low (8) and the period is short (4 seconds), but the wind is clean. Sunday afternoon is a similar story: 2 ft from the west, gentle offshore breeze from the N, and the energy ticks up to 15. Monday morning the 20th repeats that with a 2 ft west swell and a light offshore from the NE. That’s the cleanest wind we see in the whole outlook. The waves won’t be big, but if you’re desperate for a slide, those are the sessions to look at. The break is a beach/jetty setup, so with that short period, expect it to be a bit straight and fast. Crowds are sometimes a factor here, so you might have some company.
Other than that, it’s a whole lot of nothing. The swell energy is weak, the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and the scores are all zeros. For the second week, the pattern doesn’t change. It’s flat and poor. The wind does turn clean again on the 21st with a cross-offshore from the ESE, but the swell is still only 2 ft. It’s all just small and weak.
This is a classic summer flat spell. It tends not to stay this poor for long, forecasts can change, but right now, there’s nothing to get excited about. For the few clean days, grab a longboard and enjoy the glass.
