The Lowdown

Alright, grab your board, but maybe leave it in the car for a while. This is gonna be a tough stretch for surf around here. The models are showing a whole lot of nothing for the next couple of weeks.

We're looking at a real flat spell starting now. The first bit of any real surf isn't even on the cards until mid-week, and even then, it's pretty small. We've got a solid 5 to 6 day stretch where the waves are just not showing up. It’s gonna be a lake out there. The swell energy is just pathetic, with readings in the single digits and teens for most of the early period. There's just nothing moving.

The water is warm though, a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, which is something. But that's about the only positive.

When we finally do see a pulse, it’s not much to write home about. Around the 18th and 19th, we see a slight bump from the west, but the energy values are still weak, hovering around the mid-teens. Waves will be ankle to knee-high at best. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore from the west or southwest, making it a bit messy. Not good.

The morning of the 22nd is the most interesting part of this whole outlook. It's glassy, and the wind is just about dead. The water will be like glass. The problem is, the swell is still tiny, just 1ft and weak. It'll be a beautiful paddle and a great tan, but you'll be waiting a long time between any waves that are rideable.

There’s another small kick from the west around the 27th, with the energy getting up to 13. The swell height is a reported 2ft, but it’s coming with a cross-onshore wind. It might be a bit more defined than the earlier stuff, but still not something that’s going to get the heart racing.

Looking into the second week, there's one last little blip. The morning of the 29th has some clean conditions with a light cross-offshore breeze from the NNW. Swell is still small, around 2-2ft from the southwest. This might be the best bet of the whole stretch, as it could be the cleanest and most rideable, although it's still just waist-high at the very best. It’s far out and not reliable at all.

Honestly, I wouldn't be getting my hopes up for a proper surf for the next two weeks. This is one of those flat spells that just happens. Sometimes the ocean just takes a nap. If you’ve got a longboard and just want to get wet, the 22nd will be the prettiest. And the 29th might be the most promising, but it’s a long way off and forecasts can change.
