The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get this straight: the next week and a half is pretty flat for St Andrews State Park. There’s no surf worth paddling out for right now. We’ve got a big gap here with basically nothing on offer. The water temp is sitting at 88°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – feels like a bath out there.
The only time things start to look even half-interested is Thursday, August 27th, early. That morning we’ve got a 5ft swell out of the WSW, with a period of 6 seconds. That’s weak, short-period windswell, not groundswell. The combined energy is moderate at 202, so there’s some push, but it’s not a classic wave. The wind is cross-offshore from the NNW at 9 mph, which will clean it up nicely. Still, it’s only a 1/10 score, so it’s marginal. Not for beginners – 5ft is starting to push it for the inexperienced.
The next little window is Wednesday, September 2nd. Morning and afternoon both show 4ft swell from the south, with a 6-second period and offshore winds from the NE. The energy is moderate (102 and 154). It’s clean, but again, the quality is just "surfable but ordinary." Not a standout by any stretch.
There’s no true standout window here. The best of a bad run is that Thursday morning (27th) with the cleanest conditions and the biggest swell, but it’s still a poor-quality wave. For the rest of the run, you’re looking at ankle-biters or nothing at all.
