The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – this next stretch is a tough one. We're looking at a long, flat spell with barely a ripple to get excited about. The whole 16-day window is a real struggle, but I'll walk you through it.
The only break on the radar is St Andrews State Park, a beach and jetty setup that's exposed to the southwest. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing wild there.
Right from the start, Wednesday morning the 19th, we've got tiny 1 ft swell from the WSW with a shockingly short 4-second period, and the combined energy is a weak 5. It's a no-go. This flat, poor pattern just locks in. Day after day we see the same story: swell heights barely cracking 2 ft, periods stuck at 4 to 5 seconds, and the combined energy sits in the weak to very weak range (mostly between 2 and 18). The winds are a mixed bag of onshore and cross-off, but it doesn't matter when there's nothing to ride. There's a long gap of absolutely no surfable waves from the 19th right through the 26th. It's pure frustration.
We finally get a tiny glimmer of hope on Thursday morning, the 27th. The swell bumps up to 3 ft from the west, period still short at 5 seconds, but the combined energy climbs to 55 – still weak, but at least something. The morning is clean with a light cross-offshore NNW breeze at 9 mph, so the surface might be tidy. The wave comment calls it "surfable but very ordinary," and honestly, that's about the best we can say. It's a beginner-friendly size, but it's not going to get the heart racing.
After that brief pulse, it's right back to the doldrums. From the 28th of August all the way through to the 3rd of September, we're back to flat, tiny waves or nothing at all. The combined energy drops to zero or a measly 1 to 4. The afternoons are mostly onshore slop, and the mornings offer glassy or clean conditions, but there's simply no swell to work with. It's a total blank run for the area.
Honestly, if you're desperate for a paddle, Thursday the 27th morning is your only real shot, and even then, keep your expectations in the gutter. Otherwise, break out the longboard or just wait for a better forecast.
Rusty.
