Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s break down what’s coming for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, we’re looking at a really quiet stretch. The first week, from July 7th through July 14th, is mostly flat and forgettable. The swell is tiny, the period is short, and the wind is mostly cross-on or cross-off, keeping things messy. The water temp is 85°, which is about a degree warmer than normal for this time of year, so it’s a bit like bathwater, but that doesn’t help the waves.
The best window of the whole period is Thursday morning, July 9th at FA's (beach and reef). The swell bumps up to 3ft from the ESE with a period of 9 seconds, and the combined energy hits 109 (moderate). The wind is a light cross-off from the SW, so the surf will be clean and rideable. It’s still small, but it’s the most push you’ll see all outlook.
Then Friday morning, July 10th – the wind goes glassy, which is a big win. The swell is tiny, 2ft from the E, period 8 seconds, energy 54 (weak). The glassy conditions will make it look like a sheet of glass, but you’ll be hunting for any little ripple. It’s a longboard or foil day for sure.
The next decent mention is Friday afternoon, July 17th – the swell picks up to 2ft from the ESE, period 8 seconds, energy 60 (weak). The wind is cross-off from the SSW, so it’s clean again. Still small, but it’s a bit more than the rest of the week.
The Saturday morning, July 18th is similar – 2ft from the ESE, period 8 seconds, but with a gentle offshore wind from the W, so it’s clean and lined up. Again, small, but the best of the second week.
Overall, the whole 16 days is a flat spell. The combined energy is mostly in the 20s to 50s (weak), with only that one 109 reading on the 9th. The swell direction is stuck from the ESE, which is fine for FA’s, but the period is short (4 to 9 seconds), so it’s all windswell and local chop. There’s no groundswell to speak of. For most of the time, this looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing – the wind is often cross-on or onshore, and the waves are bumpy. If you’re a paddler, you’re going to be waiting for a change in the weather.
Rusty.
