The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty checkin' in. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for FA's.
Honestly, the next couple of weeks are lookin' bleak. We're talkin' a real long stretch of flat, weak, and messy conditions. The first day that even sniffs a decent wave is Wednesday the 22nd of July, and even then, it's not celebratin'. The water sits at about 84°F, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The whole 16-day window is a struggle. The first real chunk of the forecast is a total write-off from Friday the 17th right through to Tuesday the 21st. We're dealin' with tiny, gutless surf, mostly 1 ft to 4 ft of short-period, onshore chop. The wind's either cross or cross-on, makin' for a bumpy, uninviting surface. You'd be better off stayin' on the beach.
Now, Wednesday the 22nd of July shows a little flicker of life, but it's faint. The early morning session has a touch more energy, with the combined swell energy totallin' up to 165 (moderate). The waves are a clean 3 ft from the SE on a 7-second period, and the wind is a light cross-offshore. The report says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions," which is a polite way of sayin' it's just barely worth a paddle. The afternoon turns nasty again, so the early bird might get the worm, but it's a skinny worm.
Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th of July offer more of the same: clean conditions in the morning, but the swell is weak and inconsistent, with heights around 2 ft. The energy is low (56-55). It's a shortboarder's frustration, not a longboarder's dream.
The best of a bad bunch is Saturday the 25th of July. The morning delivers a clean 3 ft from the ESE with a slightly better 8-second period, light cross-offshore wind, and a combined energy of 110 (moderate). It's still small, but it's the most organised and cleanest lookin' day in the whole run. The afternoon will be ruined by the onshore breeze, so get in early.
After that, the long-range outlook into the end of July and start of August is grim. The wind improves, goin' offshore, but the swell vanishes completely. We're talkin' 1 ft to 2 ft at best. It's a clean, flat lake. For a beach-and-reef setup like FA's, with that kind of weak, short-period swell and poor quality, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
There's no standout day here. The only one that even comes close is the morning of Saturday the 25th of July. It's small, but it's the best you'll get. The rest is a washout.
Rusty.
