Table - best surf conditions forecast for FA's over the next 16 days.
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s be straight up – FA’s (beach and reef) is the only spot on the radar for the next 16 days, and it’s looking pretty grim. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing but small, weak, and often sloppy surf. The combined swell energy is mostly in the weak range, between 16 and 69, with a couple of blips just over 100 meaning moderate energy, but those come with windy, choppy conditions. There’s no standout session here, so don’t get your hopes up.
The pattern starts Thursday 9 July morning with a tiny 2ft of east swell, period 9 seconds, and glassy conditions from a light WSW wind – that’s the cleanest we’ll see, but it’s barely surfable, with weak energy (64). The afternoon gets worse: SE winds crank up to 16 mph, cross-on, and the swell lifts to 3ft, but it’s messy and poor. Friday 10 July through the weekend is a write-off: small east/southeast swell, 1ft to 3ft, short period around 8 seconds, and cross-on SE winds most of the time. Saturday 11 July morning is hopeless with a 1ft, 8-second swell and light cross-on wind. Sunday 12 July has a clean morning with a light NW cross-off breeze and 2ft swell, but still weak energy (39). Monday 13 July and Tuesday 14 July mornings are clean with WSW and W offshore winds, but the swell is only 2ft, 8 seconds – gutless. The 14th afternoon turns onshore, choppy.
The rest of the first week and into the second week stays poor. Wednesday 15 July morning has a glassy 1ft, 9-second swell (34) – tidy but tiny. Thursday 16 July morning is glassy again with 1ft – barely a ripple. From there, it’s a mix of glassy mornings and cross-on afternoons, with swell hovering around 1ft to 2ft, period 4 to 8 seconds. The combined energy stays weak (16 to 69). Wednesday 23 July morning has a flat calm, glassy 3ft, 6-second swell (51) – the biggest of the run but short-period and still weak. Thursday 24 July morning is offshore with a 2ft, 5-second swell (51). Bottom line: no decent quality, no real size, and the wind ruins most afternoons. For a beginner, the glassy mornings with 1ft to 2ft might be worth a paddle, but it’s not serious surf. The combined swell energy never gets close to moderate or strong, so it’s all weak. The water temp anomaly is average for the time of year, nothing unusual.
Honestly, this is a dead period for FA’s. With such small swell and frequent onshore winds, it’s more a kite-surfing setup on the afternoons when the wind picks up.
Rusty.
