Table - best surf conditions forecast for FA's over the next 16 days.
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let’s look at the forecast for our local spot, FA's. I gotta be straight with you – this 16-day window is a tough one. We're looking at a long stretch of tiny, weak surf with short period, mushy swells.
The water temperature is sitting at 85°, which is about average for this time of year, so no shock there.
We’ve got a gap of several days with nothing worth paddling out for. The first real glimmer of hope doesn't show up until Thursday, July 23rd. The whole first week and a half is a write-off: tiny waves from 1.0 ft to 3 ft, mostly from the ESE or SE, with a period of only 7 to 8 seconds. That's windswell, not groundswell, so it'll be weak and lacking any push. The combined energy is low, often in the 20s or 30s, meaning it's just not there.
The best of a bad bunch, and I mean the absolute best, lands on Thursday, July 23rd in the morning. It’s still not great, but it's the only day we see a slight bump. The swell is 2 ft from the ESE, still a short 8 seconds, but the wind is light offshore from the WSW. That clean, offshore wind is the only thing making this surfable, but it's a "very ordinary" session at best. The combined energy is just 56, so the waves will be weak and gutless. Still, it’s the only window we’ve got.
For the rest of the period, it's more of the same: tiny surf, often onshore or cross-shore winds, and a lot of choppy, bumpy conditions. The swell never gets over 4 ft, so it's never too big, but it's just too small to be any fun. Even the cleanest days with offshore winds have tiny waves that will barely break.
Honestly, if you're looking for a paddle, you might be better off waiting for the next system. The forecast is a long stretch of flat and weak conditions. The only chance for a few weak, clean waves is on the 23rd, and even that's a stretch.
Rusty.
