The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. The 16-day window starts off pretty bloody flat. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing but dribblers and bump for the first week and a bit. The good news is that there are a couple of little windows that could offer a fun wave if you’re keen and not fussy. It’s not going to be a classic run, but there’s something to look at if you know where to go.
The first real chance to get wet down at FA's (F-As) is on Saturday the 22nd. The morning is still average, but the afternoon shows a pulse of new energy. That's the first sign of life. We’re looking at 2.6ft of ESE swell with a solid 13-second period, and the wind is offshore and light out of the W. It won't be perfect, but it's a damn sight better than anything else we’ve seen. This is a beach and reef setup, so that longer-period groundswell might get a bit straight, but for a Saturday arvo, it’s worth a look.
After that, it fades back into the flatness for a few more days. The swell drops away to tiny dribbles through the 23rd, 24th, and 25th. The wind is mostly a pain in the arse, either onshore or just messy. There’s some glassy mornings in there, but with bugger-all swell, it’s not worth paddling out for.
Now, keep your eyes on Thursday the 27th. That's the standout of the whole run. The Thursday morning is looking like the pick of the bunch. We’ve got 3.3ft of ESE swell, a 12-second period, and clean offshore WNW wind. The energy is strong, and for the first time in the whole forecast, the conditions are actually described as "good." This is the one. It’s not massive, but it’s clean and it’s got some push.
The following Friday the 28th also has a bit of leftover energy, with the morning looking clean and offshore again. It’s a bit smaller at 2.6ft and the period drops to 10 seconds, but it’s still surfable. The afternoon brings some rain and a cross-off breeze, which should keep it clean enough for a session.
After that, we fade right out again into the first of September. There’s a lot of storm risk and small, wind-affected waves. It looks like another long flat spell.
So, to sum it up: the 16-day window is mostly a washout. Don’t get too excited about the early days. Your best bets are the Saturday afternoon of the 22nd, and the clear standout, which is the morning of Thursday the 27th. Friday the 28th is a decent backup. After that, keep the board in the car and wait for the next pulse.
The water temp is sitting at 83.8°F for the start of the period, which is bang on average for this time of year.
Alright, stay stoked.
