The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's get straight into it.
Alright, look, I've stared at the charts for FA's (F-As) and honestly, it's a tough stretch. The next couple of weeks are going to be a real test of patience. We've got a long, flat run ahead. There’s nothing worth paddling out for from today until the morning of Wednesday, July 23rd. That's a solid few days of tiny, wind-chopped waves and generally poor conditions.
The water here at FA's is sitting at a warm 84°F, which is normal for this time of year, so at least you won't be cold while you're sitting on the beach.
Now, the first tiny glimmer of hope shows up on the morning of Wednesday, July 23rd. We’ve got a small 2ft swell sneaking in from the ESE, but the real story is the wind. It’s glassy. Dead flat, offshore wind. That will make the ocean look like a mirror, even if the waves are tiny. The swell energy is weak at just 58, so don't expect any power. This is strictly a longboard or a foamie session for a bit of a paddle. The swell period is a short 8 seconds, so the waves will be a bit weak and crumbly.
Thursday the 24th and Friday the 25th offer more of the same. The mornings will be clean again with light cross-offshore winds from the SW, but the swell remains tiny at just 2ft from the ESE. You'll get some clean little dribblers, but it's more about enjoying the conditions than the actual wave size.
The best of a pretty bad bunch looks set for the afternoon of Saturday, July 25th. We get a gentle offshore wind from the WSW, and a 3ft swell from the ESE. The combined energy climbs to a moderate 119, and the period is up to 8 seconds. It won't be world-class, but with clean offshore conditions and a little more push, there will be a few fun, rideable waves for those on the right equipment. It’s still small, but it’s the standout of the entire 16-day window.
After that, the energy drops back down to nothing. The rest of the month and into August is a write-off with tiny, weak swells and occasional stormy conditions. If you’re desperate for a surf, the 25th is your day. Otherwise, it's time to find a different hobby for a while.
Rusty.
