Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards. To be straight with you, this 16-day stretch isn't exactly firing. We're looking at a long, quiet run with pretty small swell and a lot of onshore chop messing things up. There's no big groundswell on the horizon, just weak pulses of short-period wind swell. The key message is patience.
First up, for an early look, FA's is the only break lighting up, but it's a dim light. We kick off July 6th with tiny surf – we're talking around 1 ft from the ESE early Monday morning. The water's warm at 85°F, which is a notable 2°F above the average for this time of year, so you won't need a thick suit. But that's where the good news ends. The wave energy is weak (24), and the conditions are poor. Monday afternoon sees the swell bump up a touch to 3 ft from the SE, but the wind swings onshore from the SSE at 16 mph, making it choppy and ugly.
We'll get a few scattered pockets of cleaner conditions, like on the morning of July 7th (Tuesday) with a light WSW breeze and 0.9 ft surf, but it's barely a ripple. Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th both have mornings with clean, cross-off winds and tiny 2 ft surf from the ESE, but the wave energy is still low (67 and 74). These are "surfable but very ordinary" – a longboard and a good attitude would help.
Friday the 10th offers the best chance for a surf, but it's still a marginal call. The morning is glassy with a 2 ft swell from the E. The combined energy is weak (54), but with flat calm conditions, you might find a few fun little peelers if you're on the right board and the sandbanks have held up over winter. After that, it's a rinse-and-repeat pattern of small morning windows getting blown out by onshore sea breezes. You'll see some mornings with offshore winds (like July 12, 15, 16, 18, and 19) but the swell stays tiny, generally between 2 ft and 2 ft, and the period is short, rarely getting above 9 seconds.
Late in the run, around July 19th and 20th (Sunday and Monday), we see a slight uptick in combined energy to 76 and 78, but the swell height is still only 2 ft and it's mostly from the SE with a short period. The winds mix up a bit, with some morning offshores, but it's really nothing to get excited about. Overall, if you're desperate for a paddle, the glassy Friday 10th morning at FA's is your best bet – but keep your expectations in check. There's no standout swell in this outlook.
