Table - best surf conditions forecast for FA's over the next 16 days.
G'day, Rusty here, with a look at what's coming up for FA's. Mate, I gotta be straight with you—this is a pretty grim stretch. The charts are showing the locker is pretty bare for the next couple of weeks. We've got a 16-day window, but it's a long, flat wait. There's a gap of about 10 days with no real surf to speak of before we might see a tiny pulse of energy.
Let's start at the beginning. Friday the 10th of July, early doors, we've got a tiny 2ft easterly windswell sneaking in, but it's bumpy with a cross-offshore breeze. The energy is weak (55), and it's just not worth paddling out for the mess it'll be. The whole weekend into the next week is a write-off. Saturday morning the 11th is glassy but with a piddly 1ft swell, and the afternoon gets chopped up. Then from Sunday the 12th right through to Thursday the 23rd of July, it's a parade of tiny, wind-affected, and poor surf. The period is short, the energy is consistently low, and the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore. It's a frustrating time for a surfer.
The one tiny glimmer in the whole forecast comes late on Monday the 20th of July. The afternoon brings a bit of a clean-up with a moderate offshore breeze from the WSW and 2ft swell from the SE. The combined energy is still only 55, so it's weak, but it'll be the cleanest we've seen. The following morning, Tuesday the 21st, also looks clean with 2ft swell and a cross-offshore breeze. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so nothing wild there.
The real standout, and I'm saying this with caution, is Wednesday the 22nd of July. The afternoon sees a bump in combined energy to 152 (moderate) with a 3ft south-easterly swell. The problem is the onshore wind is going to be strong, turning it into a choppy mess. It's a tease, really. The swell direction is only a partial match to the optimum SSE angle for FA's, and the wind will ruin it.
Honestly, for the whole 16 days, the only time you might get a half-decent, clean wave is early on the 20th and 21st of July, but it's tiny. For anyone but a beginner, these are dog days. If the wind stays clean on that 2ft, it could be something for a longboard or a foamie, but don't expect any power. A beach-and-reef setup like FA's with this much onshore wind and small swell is more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer.
Rusty signing off.
