The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty, and I’m looking at the next 16 days for Daytona Beach. Honestly, mate, it’s a flat spell. We’re looking at a long stretch of tiny, weak waves with very little energy behind them. The water temp is sitting right around 83°, which is pretty much average for this time of year, so at least the swim’s nice.
The first few days, from Tuesday the 14th right through the end of the week, we’ve got nothing but ankle-snappers. Swell heights are mostly 0.6ft to 1ft, with periods around 8 to 9 seconds, and the combined energy is weak – mostly in the teens and twenties. The wind is light and variable, sometimes even glassy, but with waves this small, it’s just a lake. You’ll get a few tiny clean lines on the morning of Thursday the 16th, but it’s really just a paddle.
The weekend of the 19th and 20th doesn’t change. We’re still looking at 0.6ft to 1ft surf. The glassy conditions on Saturday morning the 18th and Sunday morning the 19th are a tease – the water is flat as a mirror, but there’s nothing to ride.
The second week of the outlook is more of the same, with a little tease right at the end. Tuesday the 22nd through Thursday the 24th stays tiny, mostly 0.6ft to 1ft. The only flicker of hope comes on Friday the 24th, where we see a 0.6ft to 1ft swell from the east with a very long period of 15-16 seconds. That’s a groundswell, and the combined energy jumps to 34 and 54, which is still weak but more than we’ve seen. The problem is, it’s tiny. A long-period groundswell like that needs a good point or reef to wrap around, and Daytona is a sandbar beach break, so it’ll just break straight and close out on the sand.
Saturday the 25th morning sees a tiny 1ft easterly swell with a 12-second period, and the energy is 53. The wind is light and cross-off, so it’ll be clean, but it’s still just a waist-high at best, with very ordinary conditions. The rest of the run into the 29th is just more of the same: small, weak, and mostly cross-shore winds.
There’s no standout here. The best on offer is probably the Saturday morning, July 25th, with the 1ft easterly swell and light offshore wind, but it’s a long way off and it’s still a skinny wave. If you’re desperate, bring a longboard or a foil, but honestly, this stretch looks more interesting for a swim than a surf.
Rusty.
