The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it’s a flat spell. We’re looking at a long, dry run here. From today, Thursday the 16th of July, all the way through to Friday the 24th of July, the forecast is just a whole lot of nothing. Tiny, weak waves and poor conditions. There’s a solid week-plus of flatness where you’d be better off doing literally anything else. No point even checking the cam.
Things start to show a tiny pulse of life around Saturday the 25th of July. Daytona Beach is the only game in town, and it’s a sandbar setup. The water is sitting at 83°, which is about normal for this time of year, so no shock there. Saturday morning we get a bit of ESE swell sneaking in at 2ft, with a period of 10 seconds. The combined energy is just 103 (moderate), so it’s not gonna blow anyone’s mind. The wind is a light SSE breeze, cross-off, so it’ll be clean. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. Expect a crowd, because this spot gets busy sometimes, and with nothing else around, everyone will be here.
The standout window, if you can call it that, is actually Sunday the 26th of July. The swell is similar at 2ft from the E, but the wind goes glassy-light from the SSW at just 3 mph. That’s a clean, offshore condition in the morning. It’s still small, but it’ll be the cleanest wave of the whole forecast. The crowd situation will be the same, unfortunately.
After that, the pattern is the same. A few mornings with glassy or light offshore winds and tiny swell. Monday the 27th of July morning is glassy with a 2ft E swell, and Thursday the 30th of July morning is also glassy with a 2ft E swell. The combined energy on that Thursday morning is only 48 (weak), so don’t expect much push. The afternoons get ruined by onshore seabreezes.
Honestly, if you’re jonesing for a wave, the best bet is to keep an eye on the mornings of the 26th, 27th, or 30th. It’s small, it’s weak, but it’ll be clean. For beginners, this is actually perfect. The 2ft stuff is totally manageable. For anyone else, bring a grovel board and lower your expectations. The rest of the time, it’s a no-go.
That’s the long and short of it. Stay patient, the bank might show up later.
Rusty.
