Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's happening at Daytona Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – the surf is pretty much flat to tiny for the entire 16-day outlook. We're looking at a real long stretch of nothing special. The first few days are pretty grim, with barely a ripple and stormy conditions. You're not missing a thing on Tuesday the 7th.
The first real session worth paddling out for doesn't come until Wednesday morning, July 8th. We've got a tiny 2ft easterly swell rolling in, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined wave energy is still weak, reading just 53. What makes it a standout is the wind – it's glassy, dead calm. That early session will be clean as a whistle, perfect for a beginner to get a few soft little bumps. The water temp is sitting about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
After that, it's back to a whole lot of nothing. We see small pulses on Thursday the 9th morning with 2ft easterly swell and light winds, but the energy is still weak at 45. That afternoon, the swell bumps up a bit to 3ft from the SE, pushing the combined energy into the moderate range at 204, but the cross-shore wind at 12 mph will chop it right up. Not worth the hassle.
From there, we're looking at a long, drawn-out period of poor conditions. Friday the 10th through to the end of the outlook on July 22nd, it's all tiny waves – mostly 1.0ft to 1ft – with weak energy and generally onshore or cross-shore breezes. There are a few moments of glassy or light offshore winds, like Monday afternoon July 13th and Saturday afternoon July 18th, but with nothing but knee-high slop to ride, it’s just not going to be any fun. Honestly, this stretch is looking more like a kiteboarding window than a surf window, if the wind cooperates, but for a paddle surfer, it's a long, dry spell.
So, to sum it up: your one and only real shot is a glassy Wednesday morning, July 8th. Get on it early, because after that, the surf goes quiet for a solid two weeks. The forecasts can always change, but as it sits, this is a tough run for Daytona.
Rusty.
