Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, I’ve had a good look at what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks here in Daytona Beach, and I gotta be straight with you—it’s a quiet stretch. The ocean’s just not firing. We’ve got a long gap ahead with barely a wave to speak of, so if you’ve got the itch, you’re gonna need some patience.
Right from Monday the 6th, it’s pretty flat. Tiny 1ft windswell from the east with a short 8-second period and the combined energy is only 13—that’s weak. The wind is cross-off in the morning but it’s just not enough to do anything with. Poor conditions through the day. That’s the theme for the whole first week, really. We get a little bump Tuesday the 7th afternoon—3ft from the southeast, period up to 9 seconds, energy hitting 160 (moderate), but the problem is a fresh SSE breeze making it messy. Still labelled as poor surf.
Wednesday the 8th is glassy in the morning but only 1ft again, energy at 21. No go. Thursday the 9th morning we finally get a “surfable but very ordinary” rating—2ft from the ESE with a 9-second period, energy 50. Light cross-off wind, clean. It’s the best of a bad bunch, but let’s not kid ourselves, it’s weak. Friday the 10th drops back down to 2ft, cross-shore winds, poor.
Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th look similar—2ft, short period, cross-off winds but still nothing worth paddling for. The whole first week is basically written off. We get a few afternoons the second week that show a pulse of life—Friday the 17th afternoon, for example: 2ft from the ESE, 8-second period, energy 52. And we’ve got light offshore wind from the SSW making it clean. That’s labeled “surfable but very ordinary” and it’s the best call in the second week. Saturday the 18th afternoon is similar—2ft, clean, cross-off breeze.
Even so, these are tiny, weak swells and the periods never really get over 9 seconds until we see a couple late entries with 5-second junk. There’s no standout day here, no reliable wave. If you’re desperate, Thursday the 9th morning or Friday the 17th afternoon are the only times to even bother looking. Water temp is sitting at 84°F early on, about normal for July.
Honestly, this stretch is more about patience than scoring. Daytona Beach (sandbar, exposed, fairly consistent but not this week) is a beginner-friendly spot, but right now there’s nothing for anyone. The breaks are just starved of energy. If you want to get wet for a paddle, go ahead—but you won’t be surfing much.
Keep an eye on the forecasts, though—it tends not to stay flat for long here. Just gotta wait.
