The Lowdown
Alright, let’s see what we’ve got for the next couple of weeks here. Gotta be straight with ya – it’s pretty flat and dull for most of the run. There’s really nothing to get excited about in the first week, maybe a tiny window late on Saturday the 22nd, but it’s nothing to write home about. We’ve got a long stretch of tiny, weak, and often messy conditions ahead.
Okay, so starting from Thursday the 20th, it’s a write-off. Swell is a sad 1ft from the ESE with only 8 seconds of period and a combined energy of just 15. That’s barely a ripple. It stays like that through Friday morning, though Friday morning is glassy. Still, 1ft at 8 seconds is not surf. The water temp is sitting at 85°, which is bang on average for this time of year.
We get a tiny bump on Saturday afternoon the 22nd. Swell pushes up to 2ft from the SE, period still a short 9 seconds. The combined energy hits 102, so it’s at least got a little push. The wind is a light cross-off, so it’ll be clean. But we’re talking knee-high at best. It’s surfable for a beginner on a foamie, but that’s about it.
Sunday the 23rd? Forget the morning—0.7ft of long-period E swell (13 secs) is just a flat spell, and the afternoon gets blown out by 16 mph ESE winds. The rest of that first week is a total dud. Monday the 24th is glassy in the morning, but with 0.7ft of 12-second swell, you’re just floating. Tuesday through Thursday offers a few morning windows with clean conditions and light offshores, but the swell doesn’t even crack 2ft. It’s a frustrating pattern.
Now, into the second week… nothing really changes. There’s a glimmer on Friday morning the 28th: 2ft from the E at 9 seconds, clean with a cross-off wind, and combined energy of 66. Still tiny. The afternoon of the 28th sees a bit more push—3ft from the ESE with combined energy of 140—but that second half of the day gets chopped up by 12 mph cross-shore wind. Not worth the paddle.
From the 29th all the way to the end of the forecast on September 4th, it’s the same sad story. Waves stay between 1ft and 2ft, periods are short (6 to 9 seconds), and winds are mostly cross or cross-on, ruining any chance of a clean little wave. The combined energy never gets strong. The best you could hope for is a tiny, weak wave with a bit of chop on it. Honestly, this stretch is better for a kite session than a proper surf. The setup just isn’t there for paddle surfing.
There’s no standout swell in this 16-day window. Nothing to plan a trip around. It’s a long, flat, and frustrating run. But hey, that’s Daytona Beach sometimes – it’s a sandbar setup, and it tends to go quiet. Forecasts can change, but right now? Leave the board at home.
