The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty checkin' in from Daytona Beach. Let's be real with you, the outlook for the next couple of weeks is pretty flat. We're looking at a long stretch of small, weak surf that's just not gonna get the stoke going. The overall pattern is for minimal wave energy, and honestly, it's a pretty grim picture for paddle surfing.
The first real chance to get wet is Sunday, July 19th, but even then, it's a tough call. The morning offers a tiny 1ft ESE swell with a period of just 5 seconds. The combined energy is a weak 14, and the wind is a cross-off from the SSE. Yeah, it's clean, but the waves are just too small and weak to be any fun. Sunday afternoon only gets worse.
The next few days don't offer much. Monday, July 20th, the morning bump is a 3ft SE swell, but the energy is still only 61, and while it's described as "surfable," it's ordinary. The water temp is sitting at a warm 83°F, and it's about average for this time of year, but that's about the only interesting thing.
We go through a real dry spell from Tuesday, July 21st, through to the end of the month. The swell hovers between 1.0ft and 2ft, with periods all under 8 seconds. The wind is mostly offshore or cross-off in the mornings, keeping things clean, but the energy is just pathetic. You'll see a few mornings with glassy conditions, like Thursday, July 23rd and Sunday, July 26th, but the waves are too small to do anything with. The combined energy rarely breaks 50, and when it does, it's weak.
The entire second week, from July 28th through to Monday, August 3rd, is a total bust. It's all 0.7ft to 1ft dribble with periods of 8-9 seconds. The energy readings drop into the teens and single digits. There's a tiny 1.0ft GLASSY morning on Sunday, August 2nd, but it's literally ankle-biters.
So, to sum it up: there are no standout days, no real swells, and no reason to paddle out. This setup, with the small, weak surf and occasional cross-shore breezes, honestly looks more interesting for kiteboarding than a traditional surf. The forecast can always change, but right now, it's a long blank run that's pretty normal for the area during this time of year. I'll keep an eye on it for ya.
