The Lowdown
Alright, let’s break this down for Daytona Beach. Over the next 16 days, the surf is pretty much a no-go. The waves are tiny, the energy is weak, and it’s not worth getting the board wet for most of it.
The water temp is about 83°, right on the average for the time of year, so that’s fine if you want a float.
The first tiny glimmer is on Monday afternoon, July 20th. The swell bumps to 4ft from the SE, but it’s got a short period of only 5 seconds, so it’ll be weak and messy. The wind will be a moderate cross-shore from the ESE at 12 mph, making it choppy. This one is more for the kite crew than the surfer. On Tuesday morning, July 21st, the wind goes light offshore from the SW at 6 mph, cleaning up the ocean, but the swell is only 1ft. It’s pretty, but not rideable.
The only day that even gets a mention as “surfable” is Tuesday afternoon, July 28th. The swell hits 2ft from the SE with weak energy (76), and the wind is light and cross-off from the W at 6 mph. The call is “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions,” which is about as unexciting as it gets. For a sandbar break that faces east, we need a proper swell from the E to get anything decent.
Daytona Beach is “fairly consistent,” but with the swell this small, that just means a lot of flat days with a little bump. It’s a beginner spot, but the swell never goes over 4ft, and when it does, it’s short-period junk. Crowds are “sometimes” an issue, but there won’t be anyone out for this.
No standouts here. The cleanest mornings with light offshore wind will give you a tiny, glassy wave, but don’t plan a trip around it. It’s a long, flat stretch.
