Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what we’ve got coming up on the beaches. Right off the bat, I gotta tell you, it’s been a quiet stretch and it’s going to stay that way for a while. We’re looking at a solid blank run here – nothing worth paddling out for until well into the second week.
The first real chance to get wet won’t come until Thursday morning, July 9th, and even then, it’s barely a whisper. That morning at Daytona Beach we might see some clean, small waves sneaking in. We’re talking about a tiny 2ft swell from the east with a light offshore wind, so it’ll be clean, but the energy is weak (45) and the waves are small. It’s surfable, but I’d call it more of a paddle-around session than anything to get excited about. The water temp is sitting about average for this time of year at 83°.
The next little glimmer shows up on Saturday morning, July 11th. That early session at Daytona Beach could be glassy again, with a similar 2ft swell from the east-southeast. Still weak energy (56), but the conditions will be perfect for a log or a funboard. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s better than sitting on the sand.
Then there’s a short window late on Wednesday afternoon, July 15th, and into Thursday, July 16th. The swell stays tiny at 1ft to 1ft, but the wind turns offshore or cross-offshore, leaving the surf clean. Again, it’s very small and the energy is minimal (14 to 23). This is board-paddling weather more than surf weather, but if you’re keen for a long glide, you might find a ripple.
Frankly, there’s nothing here that qualifies as a standout. The best on offer is that Thursday morning, July 9th, or the Saturday, July 11th, simply because the wind lays down and gives you a chance on a longboard. There’s no real size, no punch, and the short 8-9 second periods mean the waves lack any push. For anyone looking for a proper ride, this 16-day stretch is a dud. Looks more like kite weather than surf weather most afternoons with that onshore breeze filling in.
Keep an eye on it though – forecasts can change, and this kind of flat spell doesn’t usually last forever around here.
Rusty.
