The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking over the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, this is a tough stretch for Buccaneer. We’ve got a long, dry gap of surf that’s just not worth paddling for. From the start of the forecast through most of the first week, the swell is tiny and the conditions are messy. You’ll see a bit of energy pop up around the 9th of September, but the wind is onshore or cross-onshore, so it’s choppy and poor. The best we can hope for right now is just a few knee-high waves with bad wind.

The first real standout, and I mean the only one that’s even worth talking about, sneaks in Saturday morning, the 12th of September. We get a little bump of 3.6ft swell from the northeast with a short period of 6 seconds. The wind is light, coming from the west-southwest, so the surface is clean. The combined energy is weak, sitting at 90, but for Buccaneer, in this gloomy run, that’s about as good as it gets. It’s a reef break, very consistent, and the optimum swell direction from the northeast lines up nicely here. Be aware, though – crowds are sometimes an issue. This is an intermediate wave, and the short period means the shape won’t be world-class, but it’s ridable and clean.

Beyond that, we see a pulse of moderate energy build on the 13th (combined energy hits 180), but the wind goes onshore and strong, making it a messy, blown-out 4.6ft. That’s not for surfing. After that, onshore winds and raw sea conditions dominate for the rest of the window, with all scores at zero. No other recommendations.

So bottom line: This is a period where you pick your moment carefully. Saturday the 12th is the one morning to circle on the calendar if you’re desperate for a surf. Otherwise, it’s a long wait.
