Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for the next couple of weeks. We've only got one spot on the radar for this stretch: Coffee Break. It's a consistent reef break, exposed to the north-northeast, and it's meant to be at its best when the swell is from the NNE. Problem is, for the entire 16-day outlook, the wind and swell are locked in from the east and east-southeast. That's not the ideal direction for this wave, and honestly, the forecast is a bit of a tough one to swallow.
We start off with nothing worth paddling out for on Saturday, the 4th of July. The afternoon shows a 4ft easterly swell, but it's short-period junk at 5 seconds, with a stiff cross-shore breeze creating a real mess. The water's sitting at a warm 83°, which is basically normal for this time of year.
Sunday the 5th rolls in with similar vibes. A bump in size to 5ft in the afternoon, but that period stays short, and the wind is still cross-shore. The wave energy is moderate, hitting 141, but the quality just isn't there.
The first real glimmers of hope appear on Monday morning, the 6th. We get a cleaner look with a cross-offshore breeze. The swell is 5ft from the east, with a 7-second period. It's still not the ideal direction, and the wave comment calls it "poor surf conditions," but the energy is building (168) and the wind is better. If you're desperate for a paddle, that might be your best shot, but I wouldn't call it a standout.
Things stay pretty average for the rest of the first week and into the second. We see some marginal moments on Tuesday the 7th morning and Thursday the 9th morning when the wind goes cross-offshore, giving us a cleaner surface, but the swell direction and period just don't line up. The combined energy climbs into the strong range, hitting 385 on Wednesday the 8th afternoon as the swell pushes 7ft, but it's always with a cross-shore wind and a short period, which means lumpy, grovelly surf. That 7ft mark means it's getting a bit too much for beginners, but it's not really clean enough to be fun for the experts either.
Looking further out, there's no change in the pattern. From the 14th of July through to the 19th, it's the same story: easterly swell, 5ft to 6ft, short periods, and persistent cross-shore winds, often picking up to a fresh breeze (19 mph), which will make the surface lumpy and choppy.
Honestly, there's no single day in this 16-day window that I can honestly call a standout. The swell direction never matches the optimum for Coffee Break, and the wind is almost always working against us. We've got a consistent break, but the conditions are consistently poor. It's one of those stretches where you might be better off finding something else to do until the pattern shifts. Hang in there.
Rusty.
