Table - best surf conditions forecast for Coffee Break over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s cookin’ for Coffee Break.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this outlook is a bit of a tough one. The first week and a half is pretty much a write-off. We’ve got swell coming through, but it’s all wrapped up in a nasty cross-shore wind, making for lumpy, choppy, and just plain poor surf conditions. From Tuesday the 7th all the way through to the morning of Wednesday the 15th, there’s not a single session I’d be paddling out for. That’s a solid gap of over a week with no real recommendations.
The swell is there, mostly from the east, bumping up to 6ft to 6ft at times, but with short periods around 6 to 8 seconds – that’s wind swell, not groundswell. It’s just not got the shape or the juice. The energy values are flirting with moderate numbers, hitting 405 (combined energy) on Wednesday afternoon, but it doesn’t matter when the wind is trashing it.
The only glimmers in this forecast come on Thursday morning the 9th and again on Thursday morning the 16th. On Thursday morning, we get a bit of a cross-off wind with a clean surf description, and moderate wave energy (402). The swell is 6ft from the east, period is 8 seconds, so it’s still short-period, but with cleaner conditions, it’s a “marginal” call. The water temp is right on the money for this time of year at 82°, no anomaly to speak of. Then on the 16th, we see a similar setup: clean conditions, cross-off breeze, 5ft east swell, period 8 seconds, and moderate energy at 296. It’s not a standout by any stretch, but it’s the best on offer.
Honestly, if you’re desperate for a paddle, the Thursday morning windows are your only shot. But if you’re eyeing up the bigger days with the 6ft swell and strong cross-shore winds, that setup is more likely to be a kiter’s playground than a surfer’s dream. The winds are just too strong and onshore for a clean wave.
Keep the board in the car and check the forecast again in a few days. It’s a quiet run, but it never stays this way forever.
Rusty.
