The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, and I’ve got the skinny on the local stretch. Let’s be real—this is a tough one. The forecast is a long, flat, and messy stretch with very little to get excited about.
We’re looking at Coffee Break, a consistent reef break that’s exposed to the NNE, and it’s usually an intermediate spot. Water temps are sitting at 84°, which is bang on average for this time of year—nothing unusual there.
The outlook is grim. The combined swell energy is weak for the first few days, barely cracking 100 (78 to 94), and it's all short-period, crumbly windswell from the east. The wind is cross-shore the whole time, sometimes a fresh breeze, keeping the surface lumpy and chopped. The wave comment is “poor surf conditions” for every single session from Wednesday 19 August through to the end of the month. There’s a solid three-week gap here with zero recommendations.
On Monday 31 August afternoon, we get a pulse of longer-period groundswell (12-13 seconds) and the energy starts to climb into the moderate range (343), but the wind is still cross-shore and the waves are still getting poor marks. The first hint of something surfable doesn’t really show until Tuesday 1 September morning, when the energy jumps to 291 and the wave comment reads “marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions.” The swell is 4 ft from the east, period 11s, with a gentle cross-shore breeze—this is the only standout in the whole 16 days, and it’s barely a blip. It’s still not clean, just a little less rough.
Bottom line: there’s almost nothing on the table. Coffee Break is consistent, so it’s not a dead zone forever, but this run is unusually blank. If you’re desperate, that Tuesday 1 September morning is your one shot, and I’d keep expectations low. For now, I’d wait for the next forecast update.
Rusty.
