The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for the next 16 days.
Well, I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough one to write. The entire 16-day window is a bust for surf. There isn't a single day where the waves look rideable. From Tuesday the 18th of August all the way through to Wednesday the 2nd of September, the story is the same: messy, cross-shore winds and poor surf conditions. The wind just won't play ball, sitting cross-shore or cross-onshore nearly the whole time, chopping the surface up. Even when the swell energy bumps up to moderate levels, like the 190 (moderate wave energy) on Thursday the 20th or the 324 (moderate wave energy) on the 25th, the wind ruins it. That 15-second period swell on the 25th afternoon is a long-period groundswell that would be something special at the right spot, but with a cross-shore breeze, it's just a waste of energy. The only glimmer was on the morning of the 26th, where the forecast calls it "marginal" with a 4ft easterly swell and 13-second period, but the wind is cross-onshore, so it's still a no-go. Coffee Break is a consistent reef break that normally handles swell well, but not with this wind. The water's a warm 84°F with a tiny anomaly of 0.4°F, so that's about average for this time of year. But honestly, you're not getting wet. It's a blank run, and for this area, a long stretch of poor conditions is just part of the deal sometimes. Keep an eye on the charts, because it never stays this way forever.
Rusty.
