Table - best surf conditions forecast for Coffee Break over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a pretty grim stretch for Coffee Break. We’ve got a consistent east-swell running but the wind is just about always cross-shore or cross-off at best, and the wave comments are mostly “poor surf conditions” right through. The first real sniff of anything rideable doesn’t show up until Tuesday, July 28th, and even then, it’s only a morning window with “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” The rest of the time, it’s choppy, lumpy, and just not doing it for me.
The combined energy stays mostly in the moderate range, with values like 168 (July 18th morning) climbing to 310 (July 26th afternoon), but the quality just isn’t there. The swell period is short, mostly 6 to 8 seconds, which means weak, crumbly waves. The water temperature is 83°F with an anomaly of 0.0°, so it’s about average for the time of year – warm, but that’s where the good news ends.
There’s not a single standout session in the whole 16-day window. The only morning that gets a score of 1 out of 10 is Tuesday, July 28th, with a 4ft swell from the east at 9 seconds, and ESE wind at 9 mph giving a cross-off, clean-ish look. That’s your best bet, but it’s still only “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” The rest is all zeros.
After that, we get a bit of a bump on Thursday, July 30th morning with a 6ft east swell and a 7-second period (energy 299), but again, the wind is cross-shore and the comment is “marginal” at best. The crowd situation at Coffee Break is “sometimes,” so you might have a few others out, but honestly, there won’t be many takers with this forecast.
For a reef break that’s consistently exposed, it’s a real shame the wind can’t cooperate. The optimum swell direction is NNE, but we’re stuck with east and east-northeast, so it’s never really lining up. If you’re desperate, the morning of the 28th is your only real shot, but keep your expectations low.
Rusty out.
