Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here, and let’s be straight with you – this forecast is a tough one to read. For the entire 16-day stretch, starting from July 6th all the way through July 21st, there’s not a single session I’d point you towards paddle out for. That hurts to say, especially knowing how good Coffee Break can be.
Right from the jump on Monday the 6th, it’s a no-go. The swell is coming in from the east at 5ft with a short period (7 seconds), and while the water is a warm 83° – about average for this time of year – the wind is hammering from the east at 12 mph, creating a messy cross-shore chop. That pattern just keeps grinding. The combined swell energy sits around moderate (192), but the wind never lets up, keeping the surface lumpy and the wave quality poor.
We see a tiny glimmer on Thursday the 9th in the morning. The wind swings to a cross-offshore (ESE) at 12 mph, which cleans things up a bit. The swell, still from the east, holds at 6ft with an 8-second period, and the energy picks up (369 – moderate). It’s a *marginal* call at best, with questionable tide conditions, so you’d have to be a local who knows the sandbar in your sleep to even consider it. The water temperature data is missing for most of these records, so I can’t give you the full story there.
After that, it's back to the grind. The wind stays cross-shore for the rest of the week and into the next, ranging from 9 to 19 mph. The swell height bounces between 3ft and 7ft, but the period rarely gets over 8 seconds, so it’s all weak, wind-affected junky waves. The combined energy stays in the moderate range (82 to 399), but without favorable winds, it’s just not surfable.
There are a couple of instances where swell kicks above 5ft, but with strong cross-winds, those sessions are better suited for a kite than a surfboard. Honestly, this stretch looks like a spring clean-out for the lineup. It’s a dead run, plain and simple. For a break like Coffee Break that’s usually consistent, a blank run like this is a bummer but not unheard of. The forecasts can change, so keep your eyes peeled, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
