Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ocean City - 8th Street over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s look at the same stretch of coast but in feet and miles per hour – we'll talk straight about Ocean City - 8th Street.
Right off the bat, the next week is looking pretty weak. For the next several days, the swell is tiny – we’re talking about ankle-biters. On Tuesday morning, July 14th, the waves are only about 1 ft out of the ESE with a 9-second period. The wind is dead calm, so the surface will be glassy. It’s clean, but there’s almost no push. The combined energy is in the weak range (39). That morning would be a great time for a beginner to just get the feel of the board.
Wednesday morning, July 15th has a nice clean look with a cross-offshore wind from the WSW at 12 mph, but the wave height is still only 1 ft, with energy at 27. You might get a few little lines, but not much power.
From about Thursday, July 16th through Saturday, July 18th, it gets really flat. A gap of about three days where the swell drops to under 1 ft. For example, Thursday morning the 16th has a clean offshore NW wind at 6 mph, but the height is only 1 ft with just 16 in energy. Paddling practice only.
Things try to pick up on Sunday, July 19th. A south swell comes in at about 4 ft, with moderate energy (135), but the period is a short 7 seconds and the wind turns cross-onshore from the east at 9 mph. It’ll be choppy and messy. Not the best.
The biggest swell of the outlook hits Monday, July 27th. That south swell pushes to 5 ft, with energy jumping to 413 – a strong reading. But again, the period is short at 7 seconds, and the wind is a moderate cross-onshore from the east at 12 mph. That’s going to make the lineup lumpy and hard to manage. At that size, it's strictly for experienced surfers. It's not the clean standout you'd hope for given the wind.
The best day overall for clean conditions, if not for size, is Tuesday, July 14th morning. That glassy 1 ft swell, with calm wind and a 9-second period, offers the best chance for a clean, uncrowded session for someone learning. The energy is low, but it won’t be a washing machine.
So, it's a dry run for the most part. Not much to get excited about until the very end, and even then the wind spoils it.
Rusty.
