The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you: the surf forecast for the next couple of weeks is a total bummer. We are looking at a long, flat stretch with absolutely nothing on the menu. If you were hoping for a wave, you're going to be disappointed. Plain and simple: there are no good surf options in the 16-day window, so let's not get ahead of ourselves.
At Ocean City - 8th Street, the story is all about tiny, gutless waves. We're talking ankle-biters in the 1ft range, maybe touching 2ft at the very best. The swell energy is weak, barely registering, and the wind just keeps messing with the surface. There are a few moments of clean glass with light offshore breezes, but with that little push of swell, it's completely pointless. The water temp is about normal for this time of year, so you don't even have that to get excited about.
This flat spell just stretches on and on through the rest of August. The waves stay small, weak, and just plain poor. We might see a little bump of energy late in the month, but it’s all short-period windswell that the onshore and cross-shore winds will just chew up into a lumpy mess. There's no power, no shape, nothing to get your heart racing. It’s all chop and no hope. This blank run is more normal for the area when the swells aren't lining up, but it never stays this poor for long. Forecasts can, and do, change.
The beginning of September brings more of the same. A little more energy shows up on the 2nd, but the waves are still just knee-high and the wind is on it. It's not surf; it's a washing machine. I know it's tough, but we gotta be patient. Keep the boards ready, keep watching the charts, and wait for a proper swell to light things up. Until then, I'm just watching the horizon.
Rusty, signing off.
