The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight up with you – based on what I’m seeing for North Jetty, it’s gonna be a long, quiet stretch. We’ve got a solid 16-day window ahead, and for most of it, the surf is just not cooperating.
Right off the bat, there’s a big gap with no real surf on offer. From Tuesday, 14 July, right through until Friday, 25 July, we’re looking at a run of 11 days where conditions are just poor. The swell is tiny, mostly around 0.9 to 2 ft, and the period is short, between 4 and 9 seconds, so there’s no real push behind it. The combined energy is weak, barely registering (mostly between 13 and 69 units). It’s not worth paddling out for.
The only blip on the radar, and I mean the *only* one, is the morning of Saturday, 25 July. Even then, it's barely surfable. The swell is still small at 2 ft from the SE with a short period of 6 seconds, but the wind goes glassy from the south. That’s the one bright spot. For a few hours, you’ll find clean, tiny waves. It’s not a standout, but it’s the best on offer in this entire run.
After that, it’s back to the same story. Sunday the 26th through to Wednesday the 29th of July, the swell stays weak and the wind is mostly onshore or cross-shore, chopping it all up. By Monday afternoon the 27th, the combined energy finally bumps up into moderate territory at 131 units with the swell cracking 3 ft, but with a strong 16 mph cross-shore wind, the conditions will be a mess.
Honestly, with the persistent small swell and messy winds over a beach/pier setup, this stretch looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. Hang tight, forecasts can change, but for now, this is a long dry spell.
Rusty.
