Table - best surf conditions forecast for Flies over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve gotta be straight with you—this next 16 days is a tough stretch for Flies. It’s a beach and jetty setup, exposed to the south-west swell, but the whole run is plagued by onshore or cross-shore winds, short-period junky swell, and just poor conditions. The water’s sitting at 67°F, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you’ll want a good wetsuit. There’s a gap of flat, useless surf from the start all the way through until the morning of Tuesday 14 July, when things finally start to tick over, but even then it’s nothing to write home about.
The first real chance is on Tuesday 14 July morning. The wind is cross-off from the WSW at 19 mph, keeping the lineup clean, with a small 4 ft swell from the SW at a short 5 seconds. The combined energy is weak (65), so you’ll be fighting for scraps. That afternoon bumps up to 5 ft and 6 seconds, with moderate energy (159), but still short-period junk. Wednesday 15 July morning is cleaner with a 3 ft south-southwest swell at 6 seconds and light cross-off wind, but it’s barely surfable (99 energy). Honestly, the best window is a marginal call for the morning of Saturday 25 July, when the swell hits 6 ft from the south at 7 seconds, with a strong combined energy of 645, but it’s onshore wind from the ESE at 9 mph, making it messy and lumpy. That’s a bit big for beginners, and the onshore wind will chop it up. For the advanced crew, it’s the only standout, but it’s not clean. The rest of the fortnight is a mix of onshore slop and tiny dribble, with the odd midday cross-off reprieve that never quite delivers. If you’re desperate, Tuesday morning 14 July is the cleanest small wave option, but don’t expect much. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing on most days, with strong cross-shore winds and building swell later in the period. No real surf on offer here. Stay tuned—forecasts can change.
Rusty.
