Table - best surf conditions forecast for Flies over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's on the cards for Flies.
Honestly, it’s a pretty bleak run ahead. We’re looking at a long, drawn-out period of tiny, weak swell and onshore winds, with very little to get excited about. The first real hope doesn't show up until Friday the 17th, so you’re looking at a solid week of flat to near-flat conditions before we see any pulse of energy. Let’s walk through it.
For the first week, from now right through to Thursday the 16th, forget it. We’ve got swell heights barely scraping 2ft, with combined energy readings mostly in the 20s and 30s, which is barely a ripple. Winds are a mess—cross, cross-on, and onshore—making for nothing but chop and poor conditions. Even the little bump of 5ft on Tuesday afternoon (the 14th) comes with a nasty 22 mph cross-shore wind and a combined energy of just 151. It’s lumpy, messy, and not worth the paddle. The water’s sitting at 67°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year.
The first glimmer of something rideable comes on Friday morning, the 17th. We get a pulse from the SSW at 4ft, combined energy hitting 90. The wind is light and offshore from the NNW, so it should be clean. The period is short though, only 6 seconds, so the waves will be a bit weak and crumbly. It’s surfable, but ordinary. Saturday the 18th morning also offers a little something with 2ft and offshore NW wind (combined energy 50), but again, it’s not going to set the world on fire.
The only real standout in this outlook is Tuesday, the 21st. Morning brings a 4ft SSE swell with a combined energy of 149, and the wind is a clean cross-off from the NNE. Then the afternoon pushes it up to 4ft from the SE with a combined energy of 175. The winds stay favorable and clean. It’s not a monster, but after a week and a half of nothing, this is the best shot you’ll get. The break is Flies, a beach/jetty setup, and it’s fairly consistent. Crowds are possible here, so you might have some company.
Late in the period, Friday the 24th afternoon shows a bump to 5ft from the SSE (combined energy 268) with clean cross-off winds, and Saturday the 25th has 5ft from the SSE (combined energy 264) but with a 7-second period. That’s the biggest swell of the whole 16 days, but it’s still marginal and comes with questionable conditions. The water temp anomaly isn't listed for that far out, so we can’t say much on that.
So, bottom line: if you’re desperate for a paddle, target Tuesday the 21st at Flies when the winds are kind and the swell has a bit of push. Everything else is a long wait for very average waves.
Rusty.
