Righto, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Flies (beach/jetty) over the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, it’s a pretty flat and disappointing run for the most part. There’s a real dry spell here. We’ve got days and days of poor surf conditions with hardly any size. From Friday the 3rd right through until the morning of Saturday the 11th, you’re looking at a real struggle. Small, weak, and messy. The odd session might be clean, but with swell heights mostly under 3ft and short periods, it’s just not worth getting wet. The wind does swing offshore a few times, but there’s just no energy behind it to make anything of it. The combined swell energy is mostly in the double digits – weak stuff – until we finally see some life.
Now, the standout window arrives on Saturday the 11th. Saturday morning sees the first proper sign of life with the swell building to 4ft from the South, period at 8 seconds, and clean offshore wind from the NNW. The combined energy jumps to 182 (moderate), and for the first time, things are looking surfable. But the real gem is Saturday afternoon. That’s the best on offer across the whole outlook. The swell bumps up to 4ft from the South, the period stretches to 9 seconds, and the wind drops to almost nothing – a light cross-off from the West at just 3 mph. It’s going to be glassy. The combined energy hits 265 (moderate) and the forecast says expect good surf conditions. That’s your window. It’s a beach setup, so with that period it should offer up some clean, fun little lines. Get it while you can because it doesn’t last.
Sunday the 12th turns ugly again with onshore wind and the swell dropping back to 3ft. The following week is largely small and poor, with the only other flicker of interest way out on Saturday the 18th. That morning and afternoon sees a jump to 6ft from the SSE with a period of 8 seconds, and clean cross-off wind from the WNW. The combined energy is strong at 414 and 453, but it’s flagged as marginal. That size is getting up there for a beach break, and if the tide’s wrong, it could be a closeout mess. Still, for the crew who can handle it, that Saturday the 18th could offer some proper power if the sandbars are kind. Keep an eye on that one, but the call is less certain this far out.
Overall, the best session by a mile is Saturday the 11th afternoon. Don’t waste your time before that.
