Alright, Rusty here, let's talk about what's on offer.
Right off the bat, it's a grim picture for the next couple of weeks, I gotta be straight with you. For the next several days, we’re looking at flat to tiny, messy conditions. There’s a stretch from now all the way through to the morning of Wednesday the 8th of July where there's just nothing worth paddling out for – weak energy, poor winds, full on cross-shore chop. That's a solid week of not much.
Now, the first glimmer of anything remotely surfable shows up on Wednesday the 8th of July. Things get a little interesting at Flies, a beach/jetty setup here. In the morning, we get a pulse of 5ft swell from the east, with the combined energy of all swells directed here reading a moderate 184. The period is a short 6 seconds, so it’ll be a bit lumpy and gutless despite the size. The wind is a light cross-offshore from the NNE, so it’ll be clean on the face. It's still only marginal – surfable waves but very ordinary conditions. Not a standout by any stretch, just the first chance to get wet. Water temp is 68°, which is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual there.
The morning of Saturday the 11th of July is probably the best we get in the whole outlook. On Saturday morning, the wind swings offshore from the northwest at 15 mph, keeping things clean. Swell is a modest 3ft from the south, with a short 7-second period, and the combined energy is sitting at 99 – weak. It's small, but with clean offshore conditions, you can find a ripple. The afternoon should hold similar with the wind shifting to a moderate offshore from the west-northwest. Again, these are ordinary surfable waves, not pumping.
After that, it’s back to small, messy, or onshore junk for the rest of the period right through to the 17th of July. There’s a moment on Sunday the 12th afternoon where the swell bumps up to 4ft from the south-southwest, with energy hitting 338, but the wind is a messy cross-shore from the southwest, so it'll be choppy and hard to enjoy. Not worth cancelling plans for.
Honestly mate, this is a quiet stretch. If you’re desperate, the cleanest windows are Wednesday morning the 8th and Saturday the 11th, but keep the expectations low.
Rusty.
