Table - best surf conditions forecast for Avalon 15th Street over the next 16 days.
Alright, I’ll level with you, mate. It’s a proper flat spell here at Avalon 15th Street. The combined wave energy is weak, mostly under 100 (50), and the surf is tiny and messy. The water is 74°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s something.
The first week is pretty much a write-off. There’s a little bump of swell on Sunday morning, 3ft from the east, but it’s only 5 seconds of period and a cross-onshore breeze, so it’s choppy and poor. Nothing worth paddling out for. This continues day after day – tiny, weak, and often with onshore winds. We’re looking at a solid gap of about 7 days with no real recommendations.
Now, things start to look a bit more interesting around Sunday the 19th. The swell picks up to 5ft from the ENE with a 6-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 159 (moderate). The wind turns cross-offshore, which is a big plus, keeping the face clean. This is the best we’re going to see in the whole 16-day window, but it’s still a one-star call. It’s surfable, but the period is short, so the waves will be a bit mushy and lack punch. The 5ft size is manageable for most, but it’s not a standout.
Monday the 20th holds a similar size at 4ft from the ENE, with a bit more energy (212) and clean morning conditions with a north wind. Again, the period is short at 8 seconds, so it’s not top-tier, but it’s the best we’ve got.
After that, the energy drops back down and the surf goes flat and poor again for the rest of the week. The last day of the forecast, Monday the 27th, shows a glassy morning with 2ft from the SSE, but it’s just too small to get excited about.
There’s no real standout swell here. The best on offer is the Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th, where you might find a few clean, small waves if you’re desperate for a paddle. It’s more of a longboard or funboard session, honestly. The swell direction is ENE, which is not the optimum SE for this spot, so the waves will be a bit awkward. Crowds are possible, but with conditions this ordinary, it might be quiet.
For a beginner, it’s fine on the 19th and 20th as the swell is under 5ft, so it’s not too intimidating. Anything over 8ft, and we’d be talking expert only, but that’s not happening here.
So, overall, keep your expectations low. The forecast can change, but right now, it’s a lean run.
