Table - best surf conditions forecast for Avalon 15th Street over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, it's a bit of a flat spell we're looking at for Avalon 15th Street. For the next several days, the swell is tiny, and the wind isn't doing us any favours. The water is a balmy 76°, which is much warmer than we'd expect for this time of year – feels like a bathtub out there.
We kick off on Saturday the 11th with a glassy 0.7ft ripple from the SSE, but it's just not enough to ride. It's a real struggle. This pattern of weak, small surf continues right through the week. Sunday the 12th sees a little more push at 3ft, but it's from the east with a short 5-second period and a cross-onshore wind that'll chop it up. Not worth paddling out for.
There's a tiny glimmer on Monday the 14th. The morning shows a clean 1ft from the ESE with a 9-second period and a light cross-offshore breeze. It's clean, but you'd be on a log just to get a few nose rides. The energy is dead low (38). The best of a bad bunch is probably Wednesday the 16th morning, with clean 1ft surf and a light cross-offshore, but it’s still a knee-high dribbler.
The first real sign of life doesn't come until Monday the 20th. The morning shows a clean 3ft swell from the SSE with an 8-second period, and the combined energy jumps to a moderate 113. It's still small and the period is short, so it won't be world-class, but it's the first wave we've seen that isn't listed as "poor surf conditions". It's a consistent break, so there could be a few fun ones for a longboard.
Then, on Thursday the 23rd afternoon, we finally see a bit of a pulse. A clean 4ft swell from the east with a 6-second period, and the energy is back up to 109. The wind is light and cross-offshore, so it'll be smooth. Again, it's a short-period swell, so don't expect any long walls, but it's the best-looking wave in the whole 16-day window for a shortboard if you're a sucker for a quick, punchy little wave.
The last few days of the forecast show a few more clean, small days, but nothing that screams "surf trip." The swell on Saturday the 25th morning is 4ft from the SSE with a 7-second period and clean winds, but it's the same story – small, weak, and short period.
So, to sum it up: the standout is that Thursday the 23rd afternoon. It's the only time the swell pushes over 3ft with clean conditions. It's not going to be a classic, but it’s the best on offer. Everything else is pretty much a flat spell with a few knee-high cruisey sessions for the longboard crew. If you're a beginner, you'll be fine on the 3ft to 4ft days, but the short period will make it a bit of a bumpy ride. For the experts, there's nothing here that's worth getting excited about.
Rusty.
