Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s tell it straight: this stretch at Avalon 15th Street just isn’t cooperating for a solid wave. Looking at the whole 16-day run, the swell is tiny and the conditions are messy for the most part, so we've got a long wait on our hands.
We start from the very beginning, and it’s a tough watch. Friday the 3rd has a tiny 1ft SE swell with a cross-shore wind, and the water is sitting at 73°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. But honestly, the surf is flat and poor, and that pretty much sets the tone. Saturday the 4th through to the morning of Monday the 13th is a real desert. Day after day of knee-high slop, maybe ankle-biters, with just about every wind direction you can think of messing it up. There’s a little blip on Sunday morning the 5th with glassy conditions on a 1.0ft ESE swell, but the energy is only at (13) – it’s barely a ripple. The whole first week plus is a write-off for any meaningful wave.
Now, things finally try to get going on the afternoon of Monday the 13th of July. We see some combined energy showing up (173), and a clean cross-off wind with waves hitting about 3ft from the E. The commentary says it's "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions" which is about right. That little pickup continues into Wednesday the 15th, where the morning has the best-looking window on offer: a 4ft SSE swell (198) with clean, cross-offshore wind. It’s the standout by a long way – swell direction is from the SSE, and this spot’s optimum is SE, so that’s not a perfect match, but with clean wind and that moderate energy, it's the best we’ll get. By the afternoon, the wind swings and chops it up.
Thursday morning the 16th of July is another clean, glassy moment with a 4ft S swell (186), but again, it's just "surfable," not firing. After that, it drops back off into the doldrums for the rest of the forecast. So there you have it: if you’re desperate for a paddle, Wednesday the 15th morning is your one chance for something half-decent on a beginner-friendly wave, but don’t expect any barrels. The rest is a skunk.
Rusty.
