Table - best surf conditions forecast for Avalon 15th Street over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's get straight into it. The truth is, for the next 16 days we’re looking at a pretty frustrating stretch of surf. There's a long dry spell up front, and even when the ocean tries to get going late in the outlook, it’s not really going to deliver anything that'll get your heart racing.
Right now, it’s quiet. The first few days are a write-off, and we don’t even see the first recommendation until a full week from now. The gap from now until the first solid pulse is around 10 days of very limited options.
The only break on the menu is Avalon 15th Street. It's a beginner-friendly spot, but consistency is only fair, and even when it's breaking, the quality isn't there. In the first week, we're stuck with tiny, weak waves. On July 10th, you’re looking at a maximum of 1 ft of swell from the SSE with a period of 6 seconds. The water is sitting at about 75°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, about 3° above the average. The wind is cross-offshore through the morning and afternoon, so it will be clean, but honestly, with that little energy, it's barely worth paddling out. The combined energy is only 24, which tells you everything.
Through the rest of that first week and into the second, it’s the same story. Every day is labeled as "poor surf conditions." The swell direction shifts around, but it’s all short-period windswell, under 3 ft, and the winds are often cross or cross-onshore, making it choppy. You get a few days of cleaner, cross-off winds, but it’s still tiny – 0.7 ft or 0.7 ft. Not enough to push a log.
Now, around July 21st, there's a bit of a pulse. Finally, some moderate wave energy shows up. On July 21st, we get a 3 ft swell from the east, with a 7-second period and a gentle offshore wind from the northwest. It’s clean. The combined energy jumps to 102 and then 119 – that’s moderate energy, a real step up. This is the best-looking window in the whole outlook. Still, the period is short, so it won't be powerful. It’s a beginner-friendly size, so it’s manageable. July 22nd holds similar 3 ft waves, but the wind switches to a cross-shore, creating a little chop. The morning of July 23rd keeps 3 ft with an onshore wind from the southeast, making it less appealing.
Then things get weird. On July 24th, we see a 4 ft swell from the northeast with a 6-second period and a cross-shore wind. The combined energy is 178, which is strong, but the wind and short period mean it will be a messy, crumbly wave. Not the kind of day you want to brag about. The following days drop right back off into weak, small surf again.
So, to be blunt, there are no real standouts here. If you’re a beginner and absolutely desperate, the morning of July 21st offers the cleanest, biggest waves on offer at Avalon 15th Street, with a 3 ft east swell and gentle offshore wind. That’s the pick of a very poor bunch. The rest is just watching the tide go in and out.
Stay patient, my friends. Sometimes the ocean just takes a nap. It won’t be like this forever, but for now, it’s a blank run. Forecasts can change.
Rusty.
