The Lowdown

Alright crew, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s happenin’ at Stony Point.

I’ll level with you – it’s a grim stretch. The whole 16-day span, from July 27th all the way to August 11th, is a total flat spell. The combined energy of all swells directed here is a big fat zero every single day, and every session is marked as "poor surf conditions." That’s two weeks of nothin’.

The water temp is about 73° at the start, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so if you’re keen on a dip, it’s fine. But for surf? No dice.

We do get some nice glassy mornings and clean offshore winds – like on July 31st and August 8th – but there’s no swell to take advantage of it. It’s one of those frustrating moments where the wind is perfect and the ocean is flat as a pancake. Stony Point is usually fairly consistent, so this kind of dry run is a bit unusual, but it happens. Forecasts can change, so don’t write it off completely.

Right now, this setup looks a lot more interesting for kiteboarding than paddle surfing. If you’re desperate for a wave, you might be better off just enjoyin’ the beach.
