The Lowdown
Alright crew, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s coming for The Wall.
First off, we’ve got a long dry spell before any real surf shows up. From Saturday 22nd through to late Monday 24th, it’s a wasteland of small, junk waves with onshore chop. Not worth a second look.
The first flicker of life comes on Monday 24th afternoon. The wind turns clean offshore, the swell picks up to 4ft from the SSE, and the combined energy hits a moderate 224. The period is a short 7 seconds, so it’ll be a bit weak, but it’s clean. That’s the first real chance to get out. The Wall is a consistent, exposed spot, so it’ll catch whatever is out there.
Tuesday 25th afternoon offers a clean but tiny 2ft swell from the SE with a gentle offshore breeze. The energy is weak (59), but it’s rideable. The water temp is 66°, which is about normal for this time of year.
The standout session is Monday 24th afternoon. The wind is clean, the swell direction from the SSE aligns well with The Wall’s optimum ENE exposure, and the energy is moderate. It’s the best call in the whole run.
The rest of the forecast is small. There are a few clean windows: Wednesday 26th afternoon is glassy (2ft, SE, 8 seconds) and Saturday 29th has a light offshore (2ft, SE), but the energy is weak. The waves will be soft and short-period.
Towards the end, around Thursday 4th and Friday 5th September, the swell bumps up to 5ft and 5ft from the SE, but the wind is cross-shore and the conditions are marginal. The energy is moderate (228-258), but it’s not clean. It looks more like a kiteboarding session than a surf one.
Bottom line: wait for Monday 24th afternoon. Everything else is small and clean but very ordinary.
Rusty.
