The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – looking at The Wall over this 16-day run, it’s mostly a flat, frustrating stretch. The swell energy is weak, the wind is often messy, and there’s not a lot of love in the water. The first proper chance to even get a surfable wave doesn’t show up until Monday the 24th, and even then it’s nothing to write home about. There’s a long gap at the start of the period with no real recommendations.
The Wall is an exposed spot; it needs a decent east-northeast swell to work, and this forecast isn’t delivering that. The water temperature here is sitting at 66°, which is right about average for the time of year – nothing unusual there.
Looking at Monday the 24th, we finally see a glimmer. The morning brings a clean 2ft swell from the SSE, period around 6 seconds, and a light cross-offshore wind out of the southwest (9 mph). The energy is still weak (63), but the wind is making it clean. That afternoon gets even better: the wind switches to a 9 mph offshore from the west, which is a big deal for us – it’ll have the waves standing up a bit cleaner. The swell drops to a tiny 1ft from the SE, but with an 11-second period and a moderate 109 energy reading, those long-period lines will have a bit of push for a small logger. This is the standout moment of the whole outlook – tiny but clean, and that offshore wind is a huge positive.
If you’re desperate, keep an eye on Thursday the 28th morning. We have a glassy 2ft from the SE, period around 8 seconds (64 energy). Zero wind – glassy conditions – which is always a treat. It’s small, but it’s clean.
Beyond that, it’s a lot of poor surf, strong onshore breezes, and tiny, choppy slop. The combined swell energy readings stay weak (mostly between 13 and 131), so don’t expect any real power. This is not a period for beginners; the swell barely gets over 3ft, and when it does, the quality isn’t there.
For the second week (end of August into early September), it’s even quieter. Just forget it – the wind stays messy and the swell disappears. Some very clean but essentially flat mornings with offshore winds, but nothing rideable unless you’re on a foil.
Overall, the whole 16-day window is a struggle for The Wall. Monday the 24th is your best, cleanest shot. The rest? Save the gas and go do something else.
Rusty.
