The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s cookin’ over the next couple of weeks. First off, I gotta level with you – it’s gonna be a quiet spell. A real dry stretch at the start, and you’ll be kickin’ your heels for a good while before anything worth paddlin’ out for shows its face.
We got The Wall on the radar. Water temp’s sitting around 68°, which is a touch warmer than typical for this time of year – not a bad thing if you’re just sat on the beach waiting.
The first week is basically a bust. From Tuesday the 14th through Monday the 20th, it’s all tiny, weak swell – mostly 0.3ft to 1ft – with poor surf conditions. The combined wave energy is barely a whisper, reading 14 up to 27 (weak). Winds are mostly offshore or cross-offshore so it’ll look clean, but there’s just no push. You’re looking at flat, glassy water with nothing to ride. Leave the board at home.
There’s another quiet spell from the 21st into the 22nd. Swell nudges up a hair – maybe 1ft to 2ft – but the energy is still low (45 to 60), and the winds start swinging cross-on, stirring up a chop. Tuesday afternoon on the 21st gets called “surfable but very ordinary” – a score of 1 out of 10. Not exactly a game changer.
Then on Thursday the 23rd, we finally get a little moment. The morning goes glassy with a light S breeze at 3 mph, and the swell is 3ft from the ESE with an 8-second bump. The combined energy reaches 78 (still weak, but better). It’s clean and rideable, but still very average.
The real standout, and I mean the *only* standout in this whole forecast, lands on Friday the 24th. The morning brings a jump in swell – 2ft from the SE, but with a long period of 14 seconds. That long-period groundswell, combined with a combined energy of 238 (moderate), means there’s suddenly some proper shape and power. The wind is light SSW at 6 mph, cross-offshore, keeping the surface clean. The Wall is exposed to the ENE, and this swell is coming from the SE, so it’s not a perfect marriage, but the quality is there. This is your best shot – clean, with enough juice for an intermediate on a longboard or fish. Keep in mind, with that 14-second interval, the waves might line up a bit straighter, so it’s better if you pick your spot.
After that, Saturday the 25th sees the swell bump up to 5ft with a 12-second period and the combined energy surging to 574 (strong). That sounds exciting, but the wind turns cross-on from the ENE at 9 mph, making it choppy and messy. It’s labeled as marginal. Sunday the 26th drops off again, and from there it’s back to weak, onshore slop through the end of July – tiny windswell and poor conditions. Don’t bother.
So here’s the bottom line: you’re waiting almost 10 days for anything decent. The clear highlight is Friday morning on the 24th. It ain’t gonna be epic, but it’s the cleanest, most meaningful surf in the whole window. The rest? Honestly, it’s a blank run. For this area, that’s just how it goes sometimes – we eat the flat spells and wait for the next pulse. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s slim pickins.
Rusty.
