The Lowdown
Alright, let’s take a look at what’s on offer at The Wall. I’ll be straight with ya – the next couple of weeks look pretty flat and quiet. The surf is going to be small and mostly messy, so don’t get your hopes up for anything epic. The water temperature is sitting at 66°, which is pretty normal for this time of year, so at least you won’t need a thick wetsuit.
The best chance to get wet actually comes on Monday morning, August 24th. The swell is tiny at 1ft from the southeast, but the wind swings offshore from the west at 12 mph, keeping things clean. The swell period is a long 12 seconds, so there’s some energy there (combined energy of 70), but it’s going to be very small, knee-high at best. It’s surfable, but you’ll be working for it. The afternoon holds similar conditions with offshore winds still.
Tuesday morning, August 25th, also has a tiny 1ft southeast swell and light offshore winds from the west, so it’s clean but super small. The combined energy is only 46, so weak.
Later in the window, look out for Friday morning, August 28th. The swell picks up a bit to 3ft from the east-southeast, period is 8 seconds, and it’s glassy with calm winds. Combined energy is 109, so moderate, but still not great. The afternoon gets choppy as the wind turns cross-onshore.
Saturday morning, August 29th, has a small 2ft southeast swell with light cross-offshore winds from the southwest, keeping it clean. Combined energy is 57, weak.
Then on Wednesday, September 2nd, the morning brings a tiny 1ft southeast swell with light cross-offshore winds, clean but weak. The afternoon is glassy with a 3ft northeasterly swell, but the period is a short 5 seconds, so it’ll be bumpy and weak (combined energy 91).
Overall, there’s no standout day here. The swell is just too small and the quality is poor for the most part. If you’re desperate, Monday August 24th or Tuesday August 25th mornings are your best bet for clean, tiny waves. The rest of the time it’s either choppy, onshore, or flat. Keep your eyes on the charts – it can’t stay this quiet forever.
