Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Wall over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way.
To be straight with you, the next week and a half is pretty grim. We’re looking at a long, flat spell with hardly any energy to speak of. The first real chance of anything surfable doesn’t pop up until late in the period, so be prepared for a lot of staring at flat water.
The only break that’s offering any sort of hope is The Wall. It’s a consistent spot, exposed to the swell, and it prefers an ENE direction. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so nothing out of the ordinary there.
Okay, let’s walk through the days. From Saturday the 11th all the way through to Monday the 21st of July, it’s a write-off. The swell is tiny, the energy is weak (36 to just 3), and the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore. You’ll see a little bump on Monday the 13th with a 4 ft SSE swell, but the period is a short 5 seconds – that’s just wind slop. Forget it. There’s a glassy morning on Saturday the 18th, but with only 0.7 ft on offer, it’s not worth wetting a suit.
Now, the interest starts on Tuesday the 22nd of July. We’ve got a big pulse of swell coming in: 12 ft from the East, with a period of 9 seconds. The wind is light and cross-shore in the morning, which is a bonus. But here’s the rub – the combined wave energy is pumping at 1917, which is monster energy. The file says it’s predicted to be too big for this break. That’s a serious amount of water, and this is a wave that’s going to be charging. This is strictly for experts only. The afternoon stays big, but the wind swings cross-onshore and gets choppy.
The next few days drop off again. Thursday the 23rd sees 6 ft from the East, but with a 30 km/h onshore wind and rain. That’s a mess. The rest of the week into the weekend offers nothing more than small, weak, mixed-up waves.
The one standout in this whole 16-day window is the Tuesday the 22nd morning session at The Wall. If you’re an experienced surfer and you can handle serious size, that’s your window. It’s a massive swell, but the conditions look clean with that light cross-shore wind. For everyone else, keep the board in the car and wait for a better forecast.
Rusty.
