The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way.
To be straight with you, this 16-day period is a flat spell for The Wall. We’re looking at a long, quiet run with hardly anything worth paddling out for. The first week is almost a write-off, and the second week doesn’t offer much hope either. There are long gaps of days with no real surf to recommend, so don’t be holding your breath.
The only blip on the radar that might get a bit of attention is Wednesday afternoon, July 22nd. The swell bumps up to 7ft from the SSE, with a period of 8 seconds and a combined energy of 963 – moderate wave energy, but right on the edge of being a handful. This is only for experienced surfers, though; at that size it’s gonna be a grunty, heavy wall. The wind is a light cross-off from the SSW, which will keep it clean, but the swell direction is coming from the SSE, not the ideal ENE that this spot loves. It’s a marginal call, and tide could mess with it.
Thursday morning, July 23rd, offers a small window with 4ft from the SE, period of 9 seconds, and clean conditions thanks to a light northerly. Combined energy is 172 – weak. It’s surfable, but nothing special.
Outside of that, you’re looking at days of tiny, weak, short-period windswell in the 1.0ft to 3ft range, with onshore or cross-onshore winds spoiling what little shape there is. The water temp is about average for the time of year. Crowds are possible here sometimes, but with conditions this poor, you’ll likely have the place to yourself.
Honestly, this is a proper flat patch. The Wall is exposed and usually picks up something, but the forecasts aren’t promising anything good. A blank run like this is more the norm for this part of the year, so don’t be surprised if it stays quiet.
Rusty.
