Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Hey folks, Rusty here. Let me level with ya – the next couple of weeks are going to be a tough watch for anyone looking to get wet. The only spot in the frame is The Wall, but honestly, the surf quality is rated as poor for every single session across the whole 16-day stretch. We’re looking at a long, flat spell.
The first few days, from Sunday the 5th through Monday the 6th, you’re looking at tiny 1 ft swell from the southeast, with a short 8-second period and weak wave energy (19-58). The wind is cross-onshore, so it’s choppy and messy – not worth paddling out for.
We finally see a bump in size mid-week. Tuesday the 7th sees the swell jump to 5-6 ft from the ESE, with moderate energy (190-277), but the period is a pathetic 6-7 seconds. That’s wind swell junk. Plus, winds are strong onshore from the ENE at 19 mph on Tuesday morning, making it a complete washout. Wednesday the 8th drops back to 4-5 ft, still from the ESE, but the period only recovers to 8 seconds – still not great. The wind lightens up but stays cross-onshore.
Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th offer a glimmer of hope for the wind, but the swell drops away. On Friday morning we get clean conditions with light offshore wind from the west and a tiny 2 ft swell from the east, but the combined energy is only 45 – it’s just too small. Saturday the 11th morning goes glassy with a 1 ft SE swell (10-second period), but again, it’s not enough to ride.
After that, from Sunday the 12th right through to Monday the 20th, it’s a consistent run of tiny surf. Swell heights hover between 0.3 ft and 3 ft, with weak energy readings mostly under 60. Winds are a mixed bag – some glassy moments on Saturday the 18th morning – but the lack of any real swell makes it a non-starter. There is a brief uptick on Tuesday the 14th afternoon with a 3 ft SSE swell, but it’s a short 5-second period with gentle onshore wind, so it’s just bumpy and weak.
The standout – and I use that term loosely – would be The Wall itself, consistent and exposed to the east-northeast. The best window is Wednesday the 8th morning, when we have a 5 ft ESE swell with light cross-onshore wind. It’s not clean and the period is short, but it’s the most size you’ll see. If you’re desperate, that’s your shot.
Honestly, this is one of those stretches where the forecast can change, but right now, it looks like a long wait ahead. Keep your boards waxed and your eyes on the sky.
Stay salty,
Rusty
