Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the menu at The Wall. It’s a bit of a quiet stretch ahead, but there are a couple of windows where it might just turn on.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a gap with no real surf to speak of. Monday the 6th through to most of the following week is looking pretty flat and messy. The water’s a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 65°, but that’s about the only highlight. We’re looking at weak energy, with combined swell energy values barely hitting 98 (moderate energy) at best, and often down in the 20s and 30s. A lot of onshore or cross-onshore wind is messing things up.
The first real glimpse of something worthwhile comes on Wednesday morning, July 8th. It’s still marginal – 5ft of swell from the ESE with a period of 8 seconds, and a combined energy of 245 (moderate). The wind is light cross-onshore from the ENE, so it’s not perfect, but it’s the first sign of life.
Thursday the 9th morning sees a brief improvement. Swell drops to 3ft from the ESE, period 7 seconds, but the wind swings to a light cross-offshore from the WSW. The energy is weak at 76, but it’ll be clean. Not a standout, just a session for the die-hards.
Then we hit a long dry spell again. From Friday the 10th through to Sunday the 12th, it’s tiny and choppy. Energy values in the 20s and 30s. Not worth paddling out.
Now, here’s the one to keep an eye on. Monday morning, July 13th. The Wall gets a proper pulse of energy with a combined energy of 1082 (strong) – that’s the biggest reading in the whole 16-day run. Swell comes in at 8ft from the SE, period 8 seconds. That’s expert territory, too big for beginners, and with moderate cross-shore wind from the SSE, it’ll be bumpy and challenging. The break is exposed and consistent, so it’ll handle the size, but expect a mean cross-chop on the face. If you’re a solid surfer, this is the only day with some real push. The swell direction (SE) is a bit off the optimum (ENE), so it won’t be at its absolute best, but it’s the biggest offering by far.
After that, Tuesday the 14th afternoon shows some clean but weak 2ft swell from the SE with a cross-offshore from the NW. Energy is 71. Again, just a casual session.
Later on, Friday the 17th afternoon offers a clean 3ft from the SE with a moderate offshore wind from the W. Energy is 88 – weak – but it’s clean and rideable.
And finally, Tuesday the 21st afternoon brings glassy conditions with a 4ft swell from the SSE. The period is short – 5 seconds – and energy is only 78 (weak), but with flat calm wind, it’ll be a clean little wave for a longboard or a foiler.
Overall, expect a lot of flat and ordinary conditions. The only real standout is that big pulse on July 13th morning, but it’s for experts only. The rest is for the patient or the beginner looking for clean, small waves on glassy days like the 21st.
Rusty out.
