Table - best surf conditions forecast for Royal Palms State Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it. I’ve been staring at the charts for Royal Palms State Beach, and I gotta be honest with you – it’s a tough stretch. This is a sheltered reef and point setup, and over the next 16 days, the surf is basically a no-go for any proper paddling. The water is sitting at 69° at the start, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, but that’s about the only highlight.
We kick off on Saturday the 11th of July, and it’s grim. Tiny 2ft of swell from the SSW, but the wind is a cross or cross-on mess, and the wave comment is "poor surf conditions" across the board. The combined energy is weak (209), so you’re looking at bumpy, weak lines. That theme carries right through Sunday the 12th, Monday the 13th, and Tuesday the 14th. Nothing changes – same small swell, same poor conditions. By Tuesday afternoon, the wind picks up to 12 mph from the W, making it choppy.
Now, Wednesday the 15th of July morning is a little tease. We get a glassy morning with the wind swinging light S at 3 mph, and the swell is a tiny 1ft but with a very long period of 18 seconds from the SW. The combined energy is 197 (weak). The wave comment says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions." Look, it’s not worth a trip, but if you’re local and desperate for a knee-paddler, you might get a few clean, slow rollers. That glassy window is the only real positive in the whole outlook.
From Wednesday afternoon onward, it’s back to the same story. Thursday the 16th, Friday the 17th... all poor surf conditions. The swell sticks around 1ft to 2ft, and the wind is always cross-on or onshore, ruining any chance of a clean line.
Things try to build a little around the 18th and 19th of July, with the swell pushing up to 2ft and the combined energy jumping to 479 on Saturday afternoon, but the wind is still onshore or cross-on. The wave comment stays "poor surf conditions." Even with the energy picking up, the quality is just not there.
That pattern of small, messy, cross-onshore surf continues all the way through the end of the period. On the 25th and 26th of July, there’s a little more size – 2ft to 3ft from the SW, and the combined energy hits 515 on the 26th, which is moderate energy. But again, the winds are light and cross-on or onshore, and the wave comment never improves beyond "poor surf conditions." The long-period swell (20-21 seconds) in that last week is a groundswell, but it’s too small and too straight for this sheltered point to really fire.
So, what’s the best on offer? Honestly, the only standout is that Wednesday the 15th morning. It’s not a standout in the normal sense, but it’s the only time you’ll see glassy conditions and a clean surface. If you’re a beginner who wants to bob around on a longboard, that’s your window. For everyone else, it’s a blank run. This spot is already inconsistent, and with no decent swell and poor winds, you’re better off waiting for the next system.
Rusty out.
