Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what we’ve got coming down the line.
Honestly, looking at the whole 16-day run for Royal Palms State Beach, it’s a bit of a quiet stretch. The swell is tiny, the winds are mostly messy, and the wave comment calls it “poor” or “marginal” almost every step of the way. There’s a gap of nothing worth paddling out for right from the start. It’s not until the morning of Sunday, July 7th that things even get a slight nod, and even then it’s only a 1 out of 10, considered “marginal.” So we’re talking about a pretty flat, frustrating run for a beachbreak setup.
The first tiny glimmer of something rideable happens on that Sunday morning. We’ve got some small 3 ft swell out of the SSW with a 18 second period, which is a nice long groundswell. The combined energy is moderate at 460. But here’s the deal – with a SSW direction and a break that prefers SW, that’s not ideal. The wind is a light cross-onshore, which won’t help clean things up, and for a break that’s inconsistent and sheltered, it’ll be a real gamble. The water is "much warmer than normal" at 68°F, which is a weird anomaly, but not enough to make those knee-high wobblers seem attractive. This spot is really for beginners anyway, but the swell is so small and choppy it’s barely worth the walk.
Midweek around Wednesday morning, July 10th and Thursday, July 11th, the swell drops back to 2 ft to 2 ft, but the period stays long. Winds are still cross or cross-onshore, the energy gets weaker (down into the 200s), and the comments stay poor. There’s nothing here that gets the heart rate up.
Into the second week, from Sunday, July 14th onward, it’s all downhill. Swell drops to 1 ft to 2 ft, periods are all over the place, and the combined energy slips under 200 – that’s weak, barely any power. Winds are onshore or cross-onshore frequently. The morning of Friday, July 19th shows a slight bump to 2 ft with a 16 second period, but with energy at 231, it’s still just a marginal glance.
There are no standouts here, mate. Absolutely none. The best chance, if you’re desperate, is that first Sunday morning (July 7th) when the long-period groundswell puts in a tiny appearance, but with poor wind and a questionable tide... you’d want a longboard and low expectations. For the rest of the stretch, the lack of consistent swell and the unfriendly wind patterns make this a real write-off. With the swell being so small and the conditions so crummy, this setup honestly looks more interesting for a kite surfer than someone with a paddle in hand. Don’t expect much, and you might still be let down.
