Alright, I’m staring at the 16-day window, and I gotta be honest—it’s a rough stretch at 8th Street Jetty. There’s a long gap of nothing worth paddling for, with no real recommendations until the second week. The first several days, from July 3rd through the 12th, are a total bust. Tiny, weak swell, all under 2ft, and the wind is mostly messy or onshore. The water temp is about 73°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s the only thing that’s slightly off.
We finally see a little pulse around Monday the 13th. The morning kicks off with some 3ft swell from the ESE, period a short 6 seconds, and the wind is offshore from the NW—clean, glassy-ish conditions. The combined energy hits 74 (moderate), but it’s really just surfable, not great. The afternoon gets a little better: 4ft from the ESE, still clean with a light west-southwest cross-off breeze, and the energy jumps to 131 (moderate). The period is still short at 7 seconds, so it’s not gonna be a standout, but if you’re desperate, that’s your best bet for the whole outlook. The break is a beach/jetty setup, so it needs a decent swell direction, and this ESE swell is okay, but not perfect for the optimum NE direction. Crowds are often here, so expect company.
After that, it drops off again. Tuesday the 14th is a mess with risk of thunderstorms and onshore wind. By Wednesday the 15th, it’s back to nothing. A couple of days with zero energy and flat spells. The 17th and 18th try to pump a little S swell, but the wind is ugly—30 km/h cross-onshore on the 17th afternoon—so it’s more of a kite session than a surf session.
Honestly, if you’re not locked in for the 13th, you’re waiting a long time. The 13th afternoon is the only real chance, and it’s just “ordinary but clean.” The rest is a long dry spell. Forecasts can change, but as it sits, this is a tough 16 days.
