The Lowdown
Alright crew, Rusty here. Let's cut to the chase, the next 16 days are a proper grind. We're looking at a long stretch of ankle-biters with a few tiny flickers of hope way down the line. This is one of those periods where you're almost better off doing a beach clean-up or polishing your board.
Straight up, do not expect much for the next week. It's a flat spell. From Sunday, August 23rd right through to Friday, September 4th, the surf is just too small and weak to even bother with. We're talking waves barely reaching 1.0ft with a combined wave energy that's practically non-existent. Simply not worth paddling out for.
The only glimmer in the whole forecast is for the first weekend of September. The morning of Saturday, September 5th, is the one stand-out. 8th Street Jetty will see a pulse of 3ft swell from the southeast, with a proper period of 12 seconds. That's enough to get your heart rate up. The combined energy jumps to 290, which is a moderate kick. But the real beauty is the wind: a clean, gentle offshore breeze from the NNW. That'll put a nice face on the waves. It's an advanced spot, so you'll want your wits about you, but for a few hours that morning, there might be a lined-up wave or two. The water is sitting at 77°F, which is a touch warmer than average for this time of year, so you'll be comfortable.
The Saturday afternoon and the morning of Sunday, September 6th, don't hold the same magic. The swell drops back and the wind turns cross-onshore, messing with the surface. The rest of the forecast is a bust.
So, there you have it. A long dry spell, then a single, potentially fun morning. Keep your eyes on the sky for the 5th.
Rusty.
