The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this 16-day window for 8th Street Jetty is a real tough one. We’re looking at a long stretch of barely-there surf and tricky conditions. It’s one of those periods where you’ll be checking the forecast more than checking your board. There’s a gap of several days with no real surf on offer right from the start.
The first faint glimmer of hope shows up on Saturday the 18th in the afternoon. We’ve got a tiny 4ft swell from the south, but the period is a super short 5 seconds, so it’ll be pretty weak and messy. The water temp is a touch warmer than normal at 76° for this time of year. The big news is the wind swings around to the northwest at 3 mph, going glassy. It’s enough to make it surfable, but it’s very ordinary. The combined energy is a weak 80, so you’re not going to get much push.
Honestly, the only real standout worth mentioning is Saturday morning the 25th. It’s not much, but it’s the best we’ve got. A clean 2ft swell from the southeast, with a period of 8 seconds, and a light offshore wind from the northwest at 6 mph. The combined energy is 98. It’s small, but it’s clean. For an advanced break like this, that’s about as good as it’s going to get during this run. The rest of the week is a mix of onshore junk and flat spells with the combined energy dropping to single digits on many days.
On the 26th, Sunday afternoon, we get another glassy moment with a 2ft swell from the southeast, but the energy is still low at 42. It’s a similar story for the 30th with a glassy morning but only 0.7ft of swell. The whole period is a grind. For a beach/jetty setup, the conditions are often better for kiting than paddling.
Rusty out.
