Table - best surf conditions forecast for 8th Street Jetty over the next 16 days.
Gather 'round, folks. Rusty here. Let's be straight with you—the next couple of weeks at 8th Street Jetty are looking like a write-off for any kind of proper surf. We're staring down a long, flat stretch, so don't be holding your breath for any waves worth paddling for.
Right from the get-go, Monday the 13th of July, we've got tiny 2ft swell from the ESE, with a short, weak period of 6 seconds. The combined energy is a paltry 34, and it's blown out with a SE onshore breeze. It's just poor surf conditions all morning, and that carries on into the afternoon. Not a thing to get excited about.
Tuesday the 14th is even worse, with the swell dropping to 1ft in the morning. A bit of cross-shore wind keeps it choppy. The energy is down to 17. Wednesday the 15th looks clean with a cross-offshore wind, but there’s no size to speak of, just 1ft to 2ft. It's a glassy ocean, but with barely a ripple of swell, it's just a flat, pretty pond.
Thursday the 16th kicks off with a light onshore breeze and a tiny 0.7ft swell, but it cleans up nicely in the afternoon with a cross-offshore wind. Still, the wave heights are pitiful. Friday the 17th is the same sad story; a 0.3ft groundswell from the east with a 15-second period sounds promising in theory, but the combined energy is just 7—it's a ghost of a wave. The weekend of the 18th and 19th does see a little bump, with 3ft on Saturday afternoon from the south, but it's coming with a moderate cross-onshore wind, making it choppy and messy with a poor rating. The energy climbs to 57, but the quality isn't there.
From there on out, from the 20th of July all the way through to the 28th, the pattern is just dead. We're looking at days of zero swell combined with flat conditions, or tiny 0.3ft to 1ft pulses that get chewed up by whatever wind is blowing. There's a risk of thunderstorms on the 23rd, 24th, and 25th, too. Even the clean days with offshore winds—like the 21st, 22nd, and 27th—have no waves at all. The combined energy values are mostly single digits or zero.
So, what's the bottom line? There are absolutely no standout options. Not one. This is a full 16-day gap of flatness. For a beach and jetty setup like this, sometimes you just get a blank run. It's a tough pill to swallow, but that's the way it is. If you absolutely have to get wet, you might be better off with a kite on Saturday the 18th when the wind picks up and there's a bit of chop, but for a paddle surfer? Stay home, wax your board for another day.
Rusty.
