Table - best surf conditions forecast for 8th Street Jetty over the next 16 days.
Alright, I’ll level with you. It’s been a rough stretch and it’s gonna stay that way. At 8th Street Jetty, we’re looking at a long stretch of days with almost nothing to surf. The first week is a wash, and the second week doesn’t get any better.
There’s no session I can call a standout. The whole 16-day run is filled with poor surf. There are several days with no real options, a real dry spell.
Let’s break it down. Starting Friday the 10th, we’ve got tiny 1ft swell out of the east with a period around 8-9 seconds. Combined wave energy is weak (21). Water temp is 75°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. Wind is cross-offshore, but the waves are just too small.
Saturday the 11th sees a little bump—2ft to 3ft out of the northeast, but period drops right off to 3-5 seconds. That’s short-period junk. Combined energy only hits 33. Wind is cross-shore in the afternoon. It’s not gonna clean up.
Sunday the 12th through Tuesday the 15th, we’re stuck. Heights between 2ft and 3ft, periods short, mostly under 8 seconds. Wind stays cross-off or cross-on, but energy is pathetic—mostly in the teens to low 40s. No quality.
Thursday the 16th morning brings a glassy session with 2ft from the south, period 6 seconds, combined energy 35. The surface is clean, but there’s no power.
From Friday the 17th onward, it gets worse. Swell drops to 0.5ft with longer periods (14-15 seconds), but combined energy is barely in the double digits. Wind is light and glassy at times, but you can’t surf what isn’t there.
The second week is worse. From the 18th of July through to the 25th, we’re looking at flat to micro swell—0.5ft to 2ft at best. Periods stay short or moderate, but combined energy is often below 20, and sometimes zero. Winds are mostly cross-on or onshore, with some fresh breezes. It’s just not happening.
For a beach/jetty setup like this, with such weak swell and poor wind, those breezy afternoons look more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
So, hang the board up for now. Keep an eye out—forecasts can change. But for now, it’s a blank run.
Rusty.
