Table - best surf conditions forecast for 8th Street Jetty over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s talk 8th Street Jetty. I’m not gonna sugarcoat it—there’s just no real surf to get fired up about in this 16-day stretch. Every day has been flagged as poor. The first shot is Tuesday, July 7th, but don’t expect much.
The story here is weak, short-period windswell coming mostly out of the east and southeast, with hardly any energy behind it. That first afternoon has a combined energy reading of only 58 (weak), and it goes downhill from there. The water temp is 76°, which is much warmer than normal, so at least you’ll be comfortable, but that’s where the good news ends.
Tuesday the 7th kicks off with a tiny 3ft swell from the ENE at a short 6-second period. The wind is a cross-shore breeze at 12 mph, making things choppy. Wednesday the 8th is similar—3ft, 7-second period, with a lighter cross-onshore wind, still not clean. By Thursday the 9th we’re down to 2ft, and Friday the 10th is barely a ripple at 1ft. Energy numbers drop into the teens and single digits—real weak.
We get a brief window on Saturday the 11th morning when the wind goes clean and cross-offshore from the north at 19 mph, but the swell is still just 2ft with a short 6-second period. It’s clean, but weak. The water temp anomaly is only in the first record, but almost 3° warmer than average is definitely notable.
After that, it’s flat or nearly flat. The 18th and 19th of July see some glassy conditions with swell around 1ft to 2ft from the south, but it’s so small you’d be fighting for any kind of ride. Energy numbers are in the single digits or low thirties.
The best of a bad lot is that Saturday the 11th morning with clean conditions, but the swell just doesn’t have enough to offer for paddle surfing.
Since this is a beach/jetty setup, when the wind picks up, it looks more interesting for kite surfing than for paddling. Honest truth: there are no good surf options in this 16-day window. Sometimes the area goes quiet like this—forecasts can change, but as it stands, it’s a blank run.
