Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you—this run of forecasts for 8th Street Jetty is about as flat and quiet as it gets. If you’re looking to paddle out in the next 16 days, you’re going to be disappointed. There isn't a single surf recommendation on offer here.
The whole period is plagued by tiny, weak, and mostly messy surf. The swell energy is extremely low, never breaking into even moderate territory. The highest combined energy we see is 97 (late on the 7th) when a small 3ft NE windswell wraps in, but it comes with poor conditions. Even then, the energy is barely a whisper. For the most part, the numbers are in the teens, twenties, and thirties. That is flat spell stuff.
We start off in the first week with practically nothing. Saturday the 4th through Monday the 6th offers knee-high dribble at best, with wind mostly ruining any tiny chance. Tuesday the 7th afternoon sees that 3ft NE swell, but it’s short-period (6 seconds) and the wind is on it, making for ugly, bumpy surf. Wednesday the 8th goes glassy in the afternoon but the swell is already fading back to 2ft. Thursday the 9th kicks up a little windswell from the south, hitting 4ft by the afternoon, but the south wind is chopping it up, so it’s a mess.
After that, it’s a long, slow drain. From Friday the 10th onward, we’re looking at waves that barely register—0.3ft to 3ft at best, with very weak energy (single and double digits). The wind does go offshore and even glassy at times (like Wednesday the 8th afternoon, Friday the 10th morning, and Thursday the 16th morning), but with no swell to work with, clean conditions don’t mean a thing. The second week is more of the same: tiny, weak, and utterly forgettable.
Honestly, the whole 16-day window is a blank. The waves just aren't there. For a spot like 8th Street Jetty, it’s not abnormal to see these dead runs, but that doesn’t make it any easier to swallow. Keep the board in the car, check the forecasts, and hope the pattern changes. This stretch looks more interesting for a swim than a surf.
