Table - best surf conditions forecast for Canto do Leblon over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here with a look at what’s on the cards for Canto do Leblon over the next few weeks. The water’s sitting at a pretty standard 72°, which is just about average for this time of year—nothing out of the ordinary.
Sunday the 12th is where it kicks off, and it’s actually a solid little window. Early morning you’ve got clean 3 ft surf from the SSE with a 12-second period, light NNW offshore breeze, and wave energy at 297 (moderate). That’s a nice, tidy little session. By the afternoon, though, the wind swings SW at 15 mph, cross-onshore, and things get messy—steer clear.
Monday the 13th sees a jump in size to 7 ft from the SSW, but with a shorter 9-second period and cross winds at 12 mph, it’s all chop and no shape. Energy’s up around 1332 (strong), but it’s not your friend. Tuesday the 14th is similar: 5-5 ft, cross winds, and rain showers—marginal at best. The morning energy is 531 (moderate), afternoon 765 (moderate), but the quality just isn’t there.
Wednesday the 15th morning looks promising again. 5 ft from the SSE, 11-second period, and a light NNE cross-off breeze at 6 mph. Clean conditions and moderate energy at 508. That’s a standout window. The afternoon turns cross-onshore and choppy—fade out. Thursday the 16th morning repeats the trick: 5 ft SE, cross-off, clean, and 440 energy. Another good session to pencil in.
Friday the 17th morning is similar—4 ft SE, 11 seconds, clean cross-off—nice, easy waves. Saturday the 18th drops to 2 ft, still clean, but ordinary. Sunday the 19th gets tiny at 1 ft in the morning, with only 73 energy (weak). From here, the surf goes flat and weak right through until around Wednesday the 23rd. There’s a stretch of several days with nothing worth paddling out for—mostly 1 ft to 2 ft, short period, and cross-on winds. A blank run for sure.
Wednesday the 23rd morning offers a little glimmer—2 ft from the S, 13-second period, clean, but energy is only 165 (weak). Still, a long-period groundswell. Those longer gaps between sets could make the paddle easier, but at a beach-and-point setup like this, that long period might make it break a little too straight. Worth a look if you’re keen for a quiet one. Thursday the 24th and Friday the 25th mornings stay small and clean but ordinary.
Then, Saturday the 25th afternoon—this is a sleeper standout. Glassy conditions, 4 ft from the E, 8-second period, and wave energy jumps to 405 (moderate). That’s a rare window of absolute glass. Light NE breeze at 3 mph, no ripple. If you can get out there, that’s the pick of the second week. Sunday the 26th turns ugly again with rain and cross-onshore wind. The rest of the period fades into small, messy surf.
Wrap it up: your best bets are Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th mornings for clean, fun waves around chest-high, and Saturday the 25th afternoon for a glassy, small-wave session. Crowds are possible at Canto do Leblon, but on those cleaner windows, it’s worth the paddle.
Rusty.
