Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Canto do Leblon.
Right off the bat, Tuesday the 7th is your go-to. The morning is the real standout in this whole 16-day window. We’ve got a clean 4ft swell rolling in from the SSE with a 10-second interval, and the wind is light and offshore from the NNW – practically glassy. The energy is solid, sitting at 516 (combined swell energy), so there’s a proper push behind it. Water temp’s sitting at 73°, which is a touch warmer than average for this time of year, so you won’t need a thick suit.
Tuesday afternoon though, the wind swings around to the SW and picks up to 16 mph, making it a cross-shore mess – that session is not worth paddling out for.
Wednesday the 8th is a write-off. The wind stays cross-onshore all day, light but enough to put a chop on the surface. The swell drops a little and the wave quality is poor.
Thursday the 9th morning, we’re back in business. The wind goes glassy again, offshore from the N, and the swell is a clean 3ft from the S. It’s a smaller day, but clean and surfable – a real sneaky session if you’ve got a free morning.
Friday the 10th morning holds up well – 3ft of SE swell with a longer 14-second period and a light cross-off breeze from the NNE. The wave energy is moderate at 382, and the conditions are clean.
Saturday the 11th morning is another beauty. Glassy winds from the NNW, 4ft of SE swell at 13 seconds – that’s proper groundswell energy at 506. It’s a point and beach break, so that longer period should wrap in nicely.
Sunday the 12th morning is still glassy but the swell drops to 3ft and the energy dips to 231. It’s surfable but nothing to write home about.
Monday the 13th is a solid day. The morning has a clean 3ft from the S with a cross-off breeze, but the arvo is the real highlight – 4ft from the S, offshore wind from the NNW, and energy at 493. That’s a solid, clean session.
From Tuesday the 14th onwards, things get patchy. The swell hangs around at 3ft but the wind is onshore or cross, and the quality drops right off. Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th are small and messy.
Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th mornings offer a glimmer – clean but tiny, with swell around 2-2ft and energy down in the double digits – only for the keenest.
Sunday the 19th morning is interesting but small – 1ft of S swell but with a very long 20-second period. That’s a groundswell whisper, more of a novelty than a proper session.
The last few days, from Monday the 20th through Wednesday the 22nd, are mostly small and wind-affected. The morning of the 22nd has some clean 2ft waves from the ESE, but it’s marginal.
The standout window is definitely Tuesday the 7th morning and Monday the 13th afternoon – those are the two sessions you don’t want to miss. Crowds are likely at Canto do Leblon – it’s a spot that sees crew when the conditions line up, so get in early.
The only real call I’d make is: if you can only surf once, make it Tuesday the 7th morning. That’s the cleanest, punchiest, and most consistent session on offer.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
