Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s on the menu for Arpoador over the next couple of weeks. It’s a bit of a slow cooker out there, with a few days of nothing much to get excited about before the ocean finally wakes up.
First up, the water is sittin' at a comfortable 73°, which is bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first few days are pretty flat and messy. We’ve got Thursday the 2nd with a weak 2ft southerly swell and a cross-on breeze, making for poor conditions. The combined energy is a measly 97 (weak energy), so honestly, don’t even bother paddling out. Friday the 3rd is a bit of a tease – a tiny 1.0ft wave in the morning with a very long period of 19 seconds, but it’s so small it’s barely a ripple. The energy jumps up a notch (132) but still, it’s a day for the longboard if you’re desperate.
The real standout window starts Monday the 6th into Tuesday the 7th. Monday morning looks like the pick of the early period. We’ve got a clean 5ft southerly swell, a light offshore wind from the ENE, and the forecast says "expect very good surf conditions." The combined energy is a solid 670 (moderate), and with that offshore breeze, the waves will be peeling nicely. Arpoador (Rio de Janeiro) will be the spot to be. Just heads up, it’s an inconsistent break, so you’ll be working for your waves, but the quality will be there. Crowds are "often" here, so expect a few bodies in the water.
The surf goes quiet again after that, with a few days of choppy, onshore wind slop. The 14th of July looks like a write-off with a stormy 6ft swell and strong cross-on winds, energy readings are up near 1170 (very strong), but it’s a total mess – more of a kite day than a surf day.
Then, the second, and best, standout hits on Wednesday the 15th. Wednesday morning is the absolute gold medal moment. The swell is a solid 6ft from the SSE, the period is a nice 13 seconds, and the wind is *glassy*. Combined energy is a massive 1049 (very strong). This is the kind of morning that makes you call in sick. Thursday the 16th keeps the run going with a clean 6ft SSE swell and offshore winds, again with great energy (968). This is expert territory for the size (over 5ft), so if you’re a beginner, sit this one out.
The run fades out into Friday the 17th with a dropping 4ft swell, but still clean and offshore.
So, for the best on offer: Monday morning the 6th for the clean, early start, and Wednesday morning the 15th for the glassy, powerful groundswell. That Wednesday is the one to circle on the calendar.
Rusty.
