The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's coming up for Arpoador over the next couple of weeks.
The immediate outlook is a bit of a slow starter, but we've got a serious pulse of energy building for the end of the run. The water is sitting at a comfortable 72°, which is pretty much spot on for this time of year, so no nasty surprises there.
We kick off on Tuesday the 14th, but honestly, it's a write-off. Rain showers and a weak, cross-shore wind are making a mess of things. The swell is a mixed bag at 5ft from the S, but with a combined energy of just 520 (moderate), it's not worth the paddle.
Wednesday the 15th shows a glimmer of hope. The morning brings clean 5ft waves from the SSE with a nice 11-second period and a light offshore breeze from the NE. That's a solid window for a beginner-friendly session. The energy is moderate at 486. The afternoon holds similar size but the wind shifts cross-offshore, still clean though.
Thursday the 16th is a repeat of the morning magic. Clean 4ft waves from the SE, 10-second period, and a light offshore from the N. Energy is moderate at 363. The afternoons are a bit poorer with light cross-shore winds.
From Friday the 17th through most of the following week, the surf drops right off. We're looking at knee-to-waist high waves, mostly under 3ft, with energy readings dropping into the double digits (like 78 and 62). It's a long, flat spell. The winds are often offshore, so it's clean, but there's just no push. This stretch lasts a solid 8 days with no real action.
Now, hold onto your board, because Monday the 27th of July is the standout. The morning kicks off with a solid 8ft groundswell from the S, firing with a very long 14-second period. The combined energy is a massive 2333 (strong to very strong), and the wind is a light offshore, making for clean, powerful lines. This is strictly for experienced surfers only – that size and power is no joke.
The afternoon of the 27th is even better. The swell holds at 8ft, the period is still 14 seconds, but the wind goes glassy. That's a dream scenario for Arpoador. The energy is even higher at 2670. This is the best window of the whole forecast.
Tuesday the 28th still has plenty of juice in the morning, with 7ft swell from the S and a 14-second period, energy at 2113, and clean offshore winds. The afternoon, however, gets blown out by a strong cross-onshore wind, so get in early.
The swell starts to ease from Wednesday the 29th, but it's still a good one. The morning brings 5ft from the SSE with a 13-second period, light offshore, and a combined energy of 1242 (strong). The afternoon drops slightly to 5ft but stays clean with a cross-offshore breeze. Perfect for those who missed the big day.
So, to wrap it up: the first week and a half is a bit of a washout, but don't be fooled. The 27th and 28th of July are the real deal – big, clean, and powerful. Pick your window wisely.
Rusty.
