Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s get into it. The next 16 days have a bit of a slow start then a real pulse of energy late in the second week. The main standout is the big south swell that pushes through around the 16th and 17th of July, but we’ve got a few earlier windows worth a paddle if you pick your moment. The water temp here is about average for this time of year, nothing too wild.
First up, Tramandai Pier (Platforma) (Brazil). Saturday morning, July 4th, is the strongest early call with a solid 8ft SSE swell, period 11 seconds, and a clean west offshore wind – that’s going to be powerful and well-shaped for experienced surfers. The combined energy is strong, sitting at 1346 (moderate to strong). It’s a beach/pier setup, exposed to the swell, but it’s inconsistent, so you might need a bit of patience between sets. Crowds are possible here, just so you know. Saturday afternoon drops off a bit with a cross-off wind and smaller swell into the 8ft range, energy down to 1145, but still clean.
Sunday morning the 5th drops to 6ft with a cross wind from the NE and a 10-second period, energy down to 730 – it’s just okay, not the best. By Sunday afternoon and Monday, the swell keeps easing. Monday morning the 6th is a little knee-high number at 4ft with a clean west cross-off breeze, but the energy is weak at 269.
Through the middle of the week we get tiny clean mornings, like Wednesday the 8th with 3ft to 4ft and light offshore winds, but the energy is still low. Surfable, but nothing to write home about. Thursday the 9th is even smaller – 2ft with slight air and clean conditions, but real weak, energy around 117.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. From Saturday the 11th into Sunday the 12th, a longer period ESE swell moves in. Saturday morning the 11th is glassy with offshore wind, only 3ft but with a 13-second period, energy jumps to 381. It’s a groundswell, long period, so it’ll have more push than the height suggests, but at this beach setup it might break a bit straight. Still, glassy conditions make it worth a look.
The real standout, though? Thursday the 16th of July. Morning and afternoon both deliver 7ft south swell, 11-12 second period, with a clean west cross-off breeze. The energy is strong – 1125 and 1265. This is a solid, powerful swell with good shape. Then Friday the 17th of July tops it with 8ft south swell, period stretching to 14 seconds, and energy hitting 2502 in the morning and 2019 in the afternoon. That’s very strong wave energy, and it’s going to be big and powerful. Because it’s over 8ft, this is for experienced surfers only. The offshore wind keeps it clean, but the long period means it’s better suited for a point or reef break – at a beach/pier setup, expect it to close out in sections. Still, if you’re a solid surfer and you pick your peak, it’ll be the best of the whole outlook.
Saturday the 18th has a drop-off – 4ft in the morning with light offshore and clean, energy 549, looks nice. By the afternoon the onshore kills it. Sunday the 19th isn’t worth a mention.
Overall: if you’re after quality, go for Saturday July 4th morning for a solid paddle, or hold out for that big south swell around Thursday 16th and Friday 17th of July – that’s the real juice, but it’s got some size and long period, so pick your spot carefully. The gap between the 4th and the 16th has a few mellow clean days but nothing that’ll blow your mind.
Rusty.
