The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at the surf for Tramandai Pier. The next week and a half has some solid windows, but it's a bit of a mixed bag, so let's get into it.
We kick off on Sunday, August 23rd, with a decent pulse of swell. The water's sitting at 63°F, which is pretty much spot on for the time of year, nothing unusual there. That morning, we're looking at a 7ft S swell with a 12-second period and a clean offshore wind. The energy is pumping at 1362, so there's some proper push behind it. This is definitely for the more experienced crew, as that size and power isn't a beginner wave. It'll be a standout for the first half of the week.
Monday morning, August 24th, is another highlight. The swell bumps up a touch to 8ft from the SSE, with a longer 14-second period, giving it some serious grunt. The energy jumps to 2343. The wind is light and cross-off, keeping things clean. Again, this is expert territory due to the size, but the quality should be there.
From Tuesday the 25th, things get messy. The wind swings onshore and the swell drops off, so we're looking at a few days of poor to marginal conditions. It stays pretty average right through until Friday the 28th.
Now, Friday afternoon on the 28th is interesting. The swell drops to 7ft from the ENE with a short 9-second period, but the wind goes completely glassy. The energy is a moderate 722. It's not the biggest or best shaped swell, but glassy conditions at Tramandai are a rare treat, so keep an eye on that afternoon session for a sneaky chance.
The weekend of the 29th and 30th sees the swell drop further, with light winds and smaller, cleaner waves in the 5ft to 6ft range. It’s not going to be firing, but it'll be a lot more user-friendly for the intermediate crowd compared to the earlier in the week.
Looking further out, Tuesday, September 1st, has a massive pulse of swell forecast. We're looking at an 12ft SSW swell with an 11-second period. The energy is a massive 4735, which is very strong. But the wind is a messy cross-shore, and honestly, that size is just way too big for this break, turning it into a washing machine. It's one to watch from the shore, not for paddling out.
After that, things settle down again. Wednesday, September 2nd, looks promising with a 8ft S swell, 10-second period, and clean offshore winds. The energy is a solid 1348. That morning will be a good one for the experienced surfers again.
The following week sees the swell drop right off, with small, weak waves and mostly poor conditions. The last flicker of hope is Sunday, September 6th, with a small 6ft ENE swell, a short 7-second period, and glassy conditions. Energy is weak at 455. It's a small, clean wave for a longboard or a fun cruiser.
Overall, the standout sessions are Sunday morning August 23rd and Monday morning August 24th for the experienced crew. For something a bit smaller but clean, try for Friday afternoon August 28th or Sunday September 6th.
This is Rusty, signing off.
