Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tramandai Pier (Platforma) over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s talk about what’s in store for Tramandai, starting with the Pier (Platforma).
Right off the bat, we’ve got a bit of a wait. The first few days are pretty grim. Wednesday afternoon the 8th gives us a weak 3ft S swell at 10 seconds, with a measly 232 combined energy. The water is sitting at 58°, which is a whopping 5° colder than normal for this time of year – that’s a very unusual chill, so you’ll want a good thick spring suit. The wind is cross, so it’s messy. Thursday the 9th is even worse, with tiny swell and poor conditions all day. We’re looking at a quiet start.
Friday morning the 10th is where things wake up. That’s your first real window. We’ve got a 4ft ESE swell, but the period stretches to 12 seconds – that’s proper groundswell energy. The combined energy is a solid 320, and the wind is WSW at 9 mph, coming cross-offshore. That means clean, lined-up waves. This is a standout for the near term. The waves will be a bit fat at the beach, but the Pier structure can help focus that longer-period energy. It’s a good call for intermediates.
Friday afternoon the wind swings SSW and goes cross, and the quality drops off fast. Saturday the 11th sees a jump in size – 4ft on the morning – but with a strong E wind at 12 mph blowing cross-on, it’s a choppy mess. The energy is high (1304), but that’s all wind chop. Not worth it for a paddle. Kite surfers might be into it, though.
Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th stay marginal with light rain and onshore or cross winds. The swell holds around 3ft to 4ft, but the conditions are just ordinary. There’s a bit of a lull through Tuesday the 14th, with small, weak swell.
Then we get another little gem. Wednesday morning the 15th. The wind drops right out – a light offshore from the W at 3 mph, with a 4ft E swell. The period is a short 7 seconds, so it’s a bit weaker (201 energy), but with that glassy offshore wind, the surf will be clean and fun. This is a nice little session for anyone who can get out. Wednesday afternoon the wind shifts, so get it in the morning.
After that, it’s a long stretch of poor to marginal conditions. From Thursday the 16th right through to the end of the forecast on the 23rd, the wind is mostly from the NE or E, onshore or cross-on, with a lot of chop. The swell sizes fluctuate between 2ft and 6ft, but the quality is just not there. The 19th of July has a sneaky 6ft ENE swell, but it’s cross-shore with a cross-chop, so it’s not going to be pretty. The 22nd and 23rd see the swell hanging around 5ft, but with onshore winds, it’s a mushy, bumpy affair.
The real standout is that Friday morning the 10th, with the clean offshore wind and that long-period groundswell. The Wednesday morning the 15th is a close second for a quick, clean session. For the rest of the window, it’s a waiting game. The general pattern is that the swell is often there, but the wind is rarely on our side.
Rusty.
