Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a proper look at what’s cookin’ for Tramandai Pier.
Right off the bat, things are looking a bit flat and average for the next few days, but there’s some light at the end of the tunnel. We’ve got a few windows of clean surf, but nothing to write home about until later in the run.
Starting off Monday afternoon, the 6th of July, it’s a bit messy. Light rain and a moderate breeze blowing cross-offshore, with a small 4ft swell out of the SE, period around 10 seconds. The energy’s weak (241), and the water is way colder than usual for this time of year, sitting at 57°F. Honestly, it’s marginal.
Tuesday the 7th shows a slight improvement in the morning. A clean 3ft swell from the ESE, period 10 seconds, but with a decent offshore wind straight out of the W at 25 km/h (16 mph). The energy is still low (223), but it’ll be cleaner. The afternoon goes cross-off and drops to a 3ft SSW swell with a short 8-second period – not great.
Wednesday the 8th is where we get our first real standout. The morning delivers a clean 3ft S swell, period 11 seconds, with a light offshore breeze from the WNW at 10 km/h (6 mph). That’s a proper groundswell, and energy picks up a bit (303). The afternoon goes even better: glassy conditions, 3ft from the S, 10-second period, NE wind at just 5 km/h (3 mph). That’s going to be a sweet, clean session at Tramandai Pier (Platforma), and it’s the pick of the first week.
Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th are mostly cross-shore and ordinary, with small swells and light winds but nothing clean enough to get excited about. Friday afternoon does see a slight bump to 4ft from the ESE, 11-second period, but the cross-shore wind takes the shine off. Energy hits 376.
Saturday the 11th has a bit of potential. The morning is messy with a moderate cross-shore and a 3ft ESE swell, but the afternoon shows promise: 4ft from the ESE, 13-second period, and a light cross-offshore wind from the NW at 5 km/h (3 mph). That's a very long period groundswell, energy is strong at 587, and the conditions are clean. This will be a proper, powerful wave at the pier, but with that long period, it might break a bit straight. Crowds are possible here.
Sunday the 12th sees the swell pick up significantly, but the quality drops. A 6ft S swell in the morning, short 7-second period, with strong cross-offshore winds. It’s big but sloppy. The afternoon has 6ft from the S, 9-second period, energy at 768, but still messy. This setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, to be honest.
Monday the 13th is similar – 7ft from the SSE, 10-second period, energy at 822, but with a moderate cross-offshore wind. It’s getting into that zone where it’s too big for beginners, and the quality is marginal.
The second week is more uncertain, but here’s the long-range promise. The real standout – and I mean the one you’d circle on the calendar – is Monday the 20th of July. The morning has 7ft from the SE, 10-second period, with energy absolutely roaring at 1457, but the wind is cross-shore and it’s marginal. But the afternoon? That’s the one. 12ft from the E, 10-second period, energy at 2412, with a light offshore wind from the N at 5 km/h (3 mph) and clean conditions. That’s an enormous, clean swell for Tramandai Pier. However, the forecast says it might be too big for the break itself, so it’s one for the experts only. Keep an eye on that, but don’t book your flights yet – it’s a long way out.
Tuesday the 21st still has a big 10ft E swell in the morning (1480 energy), but the wind is cross-shore, making it rough. The afternoon drops to 8ft, still big but again a bit choppy.
In between, after the 13th, there are a few days (14th through 19th) of mostly poor to marginal surf with small swells and onshore or cross-shore winds. It’s a bit of a lull, so don’t expect much.
All up: Wednesday the 8th afternoon is the cleanest, most user-friendly day in the first week. Saturday the 11th afternoon is your best bet for power and clean conditions. And if you’re an expert keeping an eye on the horizon, Monday the 20th of July afternoon could be epic – but it’s a big, powerful swell that might be too much for the break.
Rusty.
