Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tramandai Pier (Platforma) over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here, and I’ve been staring at the charts for Tramandai Pier (Platforma) and honestly, it’s a bit of a mixed bag over the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a few windows where the coast cleans up, but there’s a fair bit of junk to wade through first.
The first real chance of a surf comes Friday, July 10th, with a morning session. The swell is a modest 4 ft, coming out of the ESE with a solid 12-second period, so there’s some proper groundswell energy in the water (329 combined energy). The wind is a light cross-off from the WSW, which is going to keep the surface clean. It’s a beach/pier setup, and while it’s an inconsistent spot, that morning looks like the pick of the first week. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
We lose the plot a bit after that. Saturday the 11th is a write-off with onshore wind and rain, and by Sunday morning the 12th, we get a bit of a bounce-back with a clean, cross-off breeze and 4 ft SSE swell on a 10-second period, though the energy is building (665). It’s a decent option for a Sunday paddle, but the inconsistency still nags.
Monday the 13th offers another clean morning, 4 ft from the south with a short 8-second period, so it’s a bit windswelly and weak (344 energy). It’s surfable, but nothing to write home about. Then we hit a real flat spot from Tuesday the 14th through to the end of the week, with onshore or cross-shore winds and poor conditions. There’s a brief moment Wednesday morning the 15th when the wind goes glassy, but the swell is tiny and short-peaked at 3 ft and 7 seconds – barely a ripple (218 energy). Not worth the drive.
The second week, around July 18th and 19th, the swell bumps up a bit – 6 ft to 7 ft from the ENE with a short 8-second period – but the wind is almost always cross-on or cross. The energy is moderate (500-560), but the quality is poor. It’s crowded and messy, and honestly, for a beach/pier, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. The 8 ft stuff on July 24th is too big for beginners, and with fresh cross-shore wind, it’s only for the experts who don’t mind a lumpy battle.
The standout? If you’re keen, get out there Friday morning, July 10th. It’s not going to be epic, but it’s the cleanest, most enjoyable wave in the whole 16-day window. The long weekend around July 19th-20th has some size but gets hammered by the wind. The 25th of July sees a 12 ft SSE swell with a 13-second period, but the combined energy is massive (3606), and the charts say it’s too big for the break. That’s a big, heavy, dangerous swell – not for the faint-hearted.
Overall, there are gaps of several days with no real recommendations, especially mid-week. It’s not a classic run, but forecasts can shift. Keep your eyes peeled.
Rusty.
