Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, grab your wetsuit, let’s talk about what’s coming up for Tramandai Pier (Platforma). It’s a beach and pier setup, and it’s inconsistent, so we’ve got to pick our moments. The water’s sitting at 59° right now, which is a solid 4° colder than what’s normal for this time of year – that’s a noticeable chill in the air.
The first real standout comes early on Saturday morning, the 4th of July. We’ve got a solid 8ft swell pushing in from the SSE, with a period of 11 seconds – that’s some proper groundswell energy. The combined energy reading is 1346 (moderate to strong), and with a clean offshore wind from the west at 12 mph, this is going to be clean and punchy. For experienced surfers only though – anything over 8ft is expert territory, and this is right on that edge. That’s your best window, no doubt.
Saturday afternoon still looks good with 7ft from the SSE, but the wind swings cross-off from the SW at 9 mph, keeping it tidy. Still strong energy (1055), but the morning is the pick.
Now, Sunday the 5th is a write-off. The swell drops to 6ft, but the wind swings onshore from the NE, and it gets choppy. That trend carries into Monday morning, which is small at 4ft but clean with a westerly cross-off breeze (3 mph). Energy is weak (220), so just small, clean rollers for a longboard or a fish.
After that, we hit a flat spell. From Tuesday the 7th through to Thursday the 9th, the swell drops to under 3ft and the energy is weak (under 230). It’s clean but tiny – not worth paddling out for unless you’re desperate.
Things start looking up again on Friday the 10th. Morning brings 4ft from the ESE with an 11-second period and a light cross-off wind, and the combined energy is 390 (moderate). Then Friday afternoon is glassy – literally 3 mph from the ESE, 4ft, and the ocean is flat calm. That’s a sneaky good session for a small-wave grovel board.
The next real chance of something meaty hits Sunday the 12th. Morning shows 5ft from the SSE at 11 seconds, with clean cross-off wind from the WSW at 9 mph. Energy is strong at 981. That’s worth setting an alarm for – it’s the second-best window of the whole outlook.
Monday the 13th holds similar size (5ft, SE, 12-second period) but the wind picks up to 16 mph from the WSW, still cross-off but stronger. Energy drops a bit to 773. It’s surfable but not magic.
Then we hit another quiet patch from Tuesday the 14th through Wednesday the 15th – swell drops under 4ft, winds turn cross or onshore, and energy is in the 300s or lower. Not much to write home about.
The very end of the outlook, Thursday the 16th, offers a pulse of 5ft from the ESE but with a short, weak period of just 7 seconds and energy only 250. That’s more of a crumbly windswell than anything with power. Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th see bigger numbers (up to 8ft) but the wind is cross-onshore from the NE, making it choppy and messy. Not for paddle surfing – that setup is more interesting for kite surfing than anything else.
So to sum it up: Saturday the 4th morning is your clear winner. Sunday the 12th morning is the backup. Everything else is small, inconsistent, or blown out. Keep an eye on the long-range stuff, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
