The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s brewing at Pedra Magra over the next couple weeks. It’s a bit stop-start, but there’s a real banger waiting down the line if you’re patient.
The water temp is 61°F, which is about 4°F colder than normal for this time of year – that’s a solid chill, so don’t forget the rubber.
First real chance to get out is Saturday the 12th morning. There’s a 6ft SSW swell with a short 8-second period, and the wind is offshore from the SSW at 19 mph. That’s fresh and clean, but the energy is moderate (419) and that short period means it’s gonna be a bit lumpy. Not the best, but it’s surfable.
Sunday the 13th morning brings a smaller 4ft SE swell with a light offshore from the SW at 9 mph. The wind is gentle and clean, energy drops to 233 (moderate), and the waves are ordinary. Worth a look if you’re keen.
Monday the 14th afternoon has a 4ft S swell, 10-second period, and glassy wind from the west at 3 mph. Energy is 385 (moderate), it’s only ordinary, but glass is glass – could be tidy for a small-wave session.
Wednesday the 16th morning is the pick of the early days. A 4ft E swell with a 9-second period, clean offshore from the SW at 9 mph. Energy hits 473 (moderate-strong), and the model says expect good surf. Nice and clean, decent push for Pedra Magra.
Thursday the 17th morning is glassy again with calm wind on a 4ft S swell, 8-second period, and 389 energy. Ordinary, but glassy conditions make it fun.
Then there’s a lull with mostly poor conditions until the big event. Friday the 25th morning sees a 10ft SSW swell with an 8-second period and a gentle offshore from the WSW at 9 mph. Energy is 995 (strong). In the afternoon, it gets proper: 12ft S swell, still 8 seconds, offshore from the SSW at 9 mph, and energy blasts to 1614 (very strong). The model says very good surf. That’s huge – experts only, over 8ft. The direction lines up perfect for Pedra Magra, but with a short period it’ll be punchy and a bit bumpy. Still, with clean offshore wind and that much power, it’s the standout of the whole outlook.
Saturday the 26th morning still has size (8ft S swell, 11-second period), but the onshore wind from the NE at 12 mph messes it up – not for paddle surfers.
Pedra Magra is fairly consistent, so even when it goes quiet, it doesn’t stay flat for long. And that 25th… that’s the one to circle.
