The Lowdown

Alright, let’s break down what’s happening at your local spot, Praia do Rincão. It’s a beach and pier setup, and it’s inconsistent, so don’t expect a steady run of waves. The water is about 65°, which is pretty normal for the season.

We’re looking at a real dry spell to start. From Saturday the 1st through Monday the 3rd, it’s basically flat and junk. That’s a solid three-day gap of nothing worth paddling out for.

Things finally wake up a little on Tuesday the 4th. The morning is glassy and clean with a 3ft swell from the SSE, a 11-second period, and moderate energy (224). It’s small, but it’s clean. That glassy wind is a big plus. The afternoon holds that glassy feel with 3ft, but it’s still just surfable.

Wednesday the 5th morning is more of the same: glassy, 3ft, but the energy is dropping (150). The afternoon turns to junk with rain and onshore wind. Thursday the 6th is a bit of a write-off, with weak energy and onshore chop.

Now, Friday the 7th is where it gets interesting. The morning has a clean 5ft swell from the S, with a shorter 8-second period, but the energy is solid at 312. The wind is cross-off, so it’ll be clean. The afternoon is glassy with 5ft and a 9-second period, and the energy is still there (314). That’s a good, clean day.

Saturday the 8th is a total mess. Strong onshore winds, 28 mph in the morning, with a cross-on mess. That’s more of a kite-surfing day than a paddle day. Sunday the 9th morning is a gem, though. Glassy, clean, 4ft from the S with an 11-second period and strong energy (330). That’s a standout morning.

Then we get to the big one. Monday the 10th morning. The swell jumps to 8ft from the SSE, with a long 13-second period, and the combined energy is a massive 2091. That’s strong to very strong energy. The wind is cross-off and light, so it’ll be clean. This is for experienced surfers only – too big for beginners. The afternoon is a bit messy, but the morning is the clear highlight.

Tuesday the 11th is still big, with 7ft in the morning, but the wind is cross-on, making it less than ideal. The energy is still high (1797), but the conditions are marginal. Wednesday the 12th is a drop-off, with shorter period windswell and poor conditions. Thursday the 13th is a nice surprise, with glassy conditions and 4ft from the SSE, with an 11-second period and moderate energy (492). That’s a good, clean surf day.

The second week is a bit less certain, but Saturday the 15th morning looks promising with a clean 3ft from the SSE and a 13-second period, with cross-off wind and energy of 433. The afternoon gets bigger and onshore, so be early.

So, the standout is absolutely Monday the 10th morning. That’s the one to circle. The swells are big, the energy is pumping, and the wind is clean. It’s for the experts, but it’s the best on offer. The other good call is Sunday the 9th morning, for a smaller, cleaner session. The rest is a lot of waiting and watching.

Rusty.
