The Lowdown
G'day, I'm Rusty, and I've been staring at the charts for your local stretch. Honestly, it's a mixed bag and we're going to have to work for it. The first few days are pretty average, but there's a couple of windows that could be alright if you're keen.
The outlook kicks off Friday the 17th, but don't get too excited. The early action is all small to moderate stuff. The swell sticks around 6 ft to 7 ft from the northeast-ish direction, with a period of 9 seconds. That's short-period windswell, nothing to write home about. The wave energy is moderate, hitting 480 on Friday morning. The wind is a cross-shore, so it's going to be a bit bumpy and messy. Friday and Saturday are not looking great.
We get a bit of a clean-up on Sunday the 19th morning. The wind goes cross-offshore with a gentle breeze, and the swell drops to 5 ft from the ENE. The wave energy is 401. It's clean, but the swell is weak and inconsistent. It's a marginal day, but if you're desperate, you might find a few.
Then there's a real quiet patch. From Sunday afternoon all the way through to Tuesday the 21st morning, the surf is small and the conditions are poor. The best of that stretch is Tuesday morning, with 4 ft and a clean cross-offshore wind, but it's a real small one.
The highlight of the whole 16-day window is a real standout. The best conditions are on the morning of Thursday the 23rd. The swell is 5 ft from the southeast, with a short 8-second period. The wind is a glassy 3 mph offshore from the west. That's a pristine setup, mate. The wave energy is 316. It's a small window, but it will be clean and you'll have a chance at a few decent ones. The break, Atlantida (beach/pier), is inconsistent, so don't expect a constant barrage. It's also often crowded, so you'll have company.
After that, it gets messy again. The wind turns onshore and the swell jumps up in size, but the quality plummets. The end of the 16-day run is a write-off. The swell gets big, 8 ft on the 31st of July, with a long period of 14 seconds, but it's accompanied by a vicious 22 mph onshore wind. That's just a mess, and the wave energy is a massive 2573, showing a lot of power. That's a beast for experts only, but the wind will ruin it. It's more of a windsurfing or kitesurfing kind of day with that chop.
The only other real glimmer is that final day, Saturday the 1st of August. The swell is 7 ft from the east-southeast, with a very long 13-second period. The wind is a clean 12 mph offshore from the west. That's a big, powerful groundswell, and the wave energy is 1776. The report says it's excellent for experienced surfers. That's a proper session, but it's a long way off and the forecast is less certain. The period is very long, so it might be a bit straight at this beach break, but the offshore wind will help a lot.
So, the best bet is the 23rd of July morning for a small, clean, offshore session. The other big one to watch is the 1st of August, but that's a long way out and a bigger, more powerful wave. Overall, the water temp is about average for the time of year, so no need to worry about a wetsuit or a shorty.
Rusty out.
