The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – looking at the 16-day window for our stretch of coast, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. We’ve got some solid pulses coming through, but they’re often tied to tricky winds or that inconsistent nature of the place. The main spot we’re looking at is Atlantida (beach/pier). This place is a classic example of “if you get the right window, it’s magic.” The water temp is sitting right about average for this time of year, so nothing wild there.
The first real opportunity to get a wave under your feet hits on Wednesday, July 15th in the morning. We’re looking at a clean 3ft swell out of the ESE with a period of 9 seconds. The wind is light and cross-offshore, making for a clean surface. The combined energy is moderate (280). It’s not a massive day, but it’s a fun little window to get the board wet.
The real standout, though, the one that’s got me a little excited, is Saturday, July 18th in the morning. The swell bumps up to a solid 7ft from the ENE, with a 9-second period. The combined energy is strong (1227), meaning there’s some real grunt in the water. That’s a powerful wave, maybe too much for the beginners, but for the experienced crew, it’s going to be on. The catch is the wind is a cross-shore, so it’ll have a bit of bump on it, but the raw power is there. This is the best bet on offer.
After that, Sunday, July 19th morning has a nice clean 5ft ENE swell with cross-offshore winds, offering a more manageable option. Then we have a bit of a lull mid-week with some rain and onshore winds.
Later in the window, we get a shift. Tuesday, July 21st afternoon has a great looking swell. A 4ft SSE groundswell with a long 11-second period, and the wind goes glassy. That’s a rare combination. The energy is moderate (451). This is the kind of clean, long-period glass that makes a point break or a reef sing. The period is long enough that the waves will have some real shape, but it might be a bit walled up on the beach. Still, the glassy conditions are a massive plus.
Saturday, July 25th morning also looks promising with a clean 6ft ENE swell and cross-offshore winds, which is a solid option for the weekend.
There’s a bit of a gap there, but it’s worth keeping an eye on. The latter part of the run into late July shows some cleaner, longer-period SW swells, but the consistency is never guaranteed here. If you’re a kite surfer, the days with that strong cross-shore wind and solid swell—like the 18th—might be more interesting for you than for a paddle surfer.
Rusty.
