Table - best surf conditions forecast for Guarita over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way for the next couple of weeks. It’s been a quiet start, but there’s some real hope building.
We’re looking at a bit of a lull to kick things off, with no real standout surf for the first few days. The first proper sign of life shows up on Wednesday morning, July 8th, at Guarita. It’s not big, just a clean 3ft swell from the south with a long 11-second period, and cross-offshore wind from the northwest at just 3 mph. The water is running cold for this time of year, coming in at 58° with a big temperature anomaly of 5° below normal, so it’s much colder than usual – definitely grab a thicker wetsuit. That morning session will be clean and glassy, but it’s only a small taste. The combined swell energy is weak (230), so it’s not going to be pumping, but a nice way to ease in.
The middle of the month starts to get more interesting. By Saturday afternoon, July 11th, we see the swell building nicely. Guarita picks up a 4ft swell from the ESE with a very long 13-second period, and the wind goes cross-offshore from the north at just 3 mph. That’s going to be clean with some real push behind it. The energy jumps right up to strong (701). This is a proper groundswell, and on a reef setup like Guarita, it should make for some excellent, well-shaped waves. Keep in mind that long period, super clean lines.
The real standout of the whole window, though, is looking like Sunday morning, July 12th. We have a 4ft swell from the SSE, 11-second period, and light cross-offshore wind from the southwest at just 3 mph. The water is still cold, but the conditions are forecast to be very good – clean, organised, and with a combined swell energy of 566 (moderate to strong). This is the one to circle on the calendar. Guarita is the break, and the optimum direction from the east lines up nicely with the forecast. It should be firing.
After that, things get a bit messy for a stretch. The wind swings around, and the swell quality drops off for a run of days. We get a couple of smaller, clean windows on the morning of July 15th (2ft, glassy, SE groundswell) and July 16th (3ft, cross-off), but nothing that matches the weekend.
The second week opens up with some promise again. On July 18th and 19th, we see a 5ft swell from the ENE arriving. The period is short at 8 seconds, but the wind is clean and cross-off from the north at 6 mph. That’s going to bring some punchy, fun waves, but it’s getting bigger. Combined energy is 421 on Saturday and 495 on Sunday – moderate to strong. For the more advanced crew, this is solid.
Then we hit a bigger pulse. Monday morning, July 20th, sees a 7ft swell from the ENE. This is getting into expert territory. The period is still short (8 seconds) and the wind is cross-shore, so it will be a bit bumpy, but there’s a lot of energy behind it (825). This one is for the experienced crew only; the power is strong and the size is serious.
The final few days show a nice easterly windswell on July 22nd, small but glassy, and then on Thursday morning, July 23rd, a clean 4ft south swell with an 11-second period returns, with light cross-offshore wind. That morning session at Guarita should be clean and fun, with decent energy (421).
All in all, the best bets are the mornings of July 12th and July 23rd. The water’s cold, so be prepared, but the surf has a good heart to it.
Rusty.
