The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, let's break it down in feet and miles per hour.
It's been a slow cook, but there's a payoff coming. We're focused on Guarita, an advanced reef break. The whole 16-day window has a few different stories to tell.
First waves worth driving for are this Sunday the 19th. Morning has a cross-shore breeze, but the afternoon cleans up with a nice cross-offshore wind. You're looking at chest to head-high surf, around 6 ft, pushing in from the ENE with a period of 8 seconds. It's not the longest period, but there's moderate energy (a reading of 628), and that offshore breeze will make for some fun, hollow walls. Expect a few others out there.
We then hit a quiet spell from Monday the 20th through Thursday the 24th. The swell drops way off. Monday morning is glassy but small at 4 ft, and it fades fast. For a few days, you're looking at weak, small surf with only 3 ft to 5 ft and periods around 8 seconds. Winds are a mess, mostly onshore. Energy stays low, under 300. Not worth the paddle.
There's a blink on Friday the 24th – a clean cross-offshore breeze with a tiny 4 ft SE swell. Small but clean.
The real standout is the first of August. That Saturday morning is the one. Glassy conditions, light offshore winds, and a solid 5 ft swell from the SSE. The big news is the period: 14 seconds. That's a proper groundswell, packing a huge punch with a combined energy reading of 1074 strong. This is a powerful, long-period wave that will absolutely fire on this reef. It's expert territory for sure.
Sunday the 2nd of August still has serious grunt, with a 5 ft SSE swell and a 14-second period, hitting 1441 in energy, but a cross-shore wind will make it a bit bumpy. Still on for the advanced crew.
The water temp is about average for the time of year here, nothing special.
So, bottom line: the standout is that Saturday the 1st of August morning. Glassy, long-period, powerful SSE swell at 5 ft – that's your dawn patrol winner. If you can't make it, the Sunday morning is a solid backup.
This is Rusty, signing off.
