Table - best surf conditions forecast for Siriu over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. We’ve got a mixed bag coming up for Siriu, with a bit of a slow start before the real gems show themselves. The water’s sitting at 60°, which is a solid 7° colder than usual for this time of year – that’s a proper chilly anomaly, so you’ll want a thick wetsuit.
The first real standout hits Sunday morning, July 12th. Siriu will be seeing a 6 ft south swell, rolling in with an 11-second period from the south. The wave energy is pumping hard with a reading of 1263, and with a cross-offshore wind from the SSW at 12 mph, the surface will be clean. This is quality stuff for experienced surfers – the combination of size, period, and wind makes this the best on offer in the first week. It’s a bit much for beginners though, given the height.
We roll into Monday morning, July 13th, and there’s another strong contender. A 7 ft south swell with an 8-second period is wrapping in, and the energy is right up there at 1095. The wind is cross-off from the southwest at a gentler 9 mph, keeping it clean. This is solid, powerful surfing for those who know what they’re doing. The afternoon gets a bit messier as the wind picks up.
Tuesday the 14th morning, and oh boy, this is a beauty. The swell drops a touch to 6 ft from the southeast, with a nice 10-second period, and the wind goes glassy – a pure 3 mph from the WNW. That’s as clean as it gets. The energy is moderate at 546, but the conditions are perfect for a long session. This is the pick for a mellow, high-quality surf.
After that, the middle of the week turns average. The wind swings onshore or cross-shore, and the quality drops right off. Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th are poor to marginal, with the swell bouncing around but the wind making a mess of things. Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th have some size with waves around 6 ft to 7 ft, but the wind is cross or cross-on from the N or NNE, leaving the surface lumpy and choppy. Not worth paddling out for.
Sunday morning, the 19th, is more of the same – 6 ft from the NE with cross winds. It’s still marginal at best.
Now, the second week brings another highlight. Monday morning, July 20th, sees a 6 ft NE swell at 9 seconds, with a gentle cross-off breeze from the NNW at 9 mph. The energy is 725, and the surface is clean. This is a solid, dependable session. Tuesday morning, July 21st, is a dark horse with light rain and a glassy WSW breeze at 3 mph, wrapping around a 4 ft ENE swell at 8 seconds. The energy is low at 213, but the glassy water is a rare treat for a clean, small-wave day.
We get a bit of a spike on Wednesday morning, the 22nd, with a 7 ft south swell at 9 seconds and an energy reading of 1294, but the wind is cross from the NNE at 16 mph, which will chop it up. It’s a powerful swell but not a clean one – one for the experts who don’t mind a bit of battle.
The rest of the second week fades out. Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th have small, cleaner swells (4 ft to 4 ft) with cross-off winds, but the energy is low and the size is small. Saturday the 25th drops right off into tiny, weak waves with poor wind, and Sunday the 26th is barely surfable – a 2 ft ENE swell with a pathetic energy of 45. The last couple of days, Monday and Tuesday the 27th and 28th, are poor to marginal with small, wind-affected waves.
If you’re chasing the best, hit the Sunday the 12th morning session – that south swell with clean cross-off wind is the highlight. Monday the 13th morning is a close second with its power. For a glassy, mellow day, Tuesday the 14th morning is the one.
Stay safe out there, and don’t forget the warm wax.
Rusty.
