The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up for Siriu.
The surf scene is gonna be a bit of a slow starter, but the second week has some serious potential. The first real pulse of energy that’s worth paddling out for hits on Tuesday morning, the 14th of July. The water temperature is sitting at 59°, which is a whopping 7° colder than usual for this time of year – that’s a very unusual chill, so you’ll want a thick wetsuit. We’re looking at a clean 6ft SE swell rolling in with a 10-second period, and the wind is glassy, making for some clean, smooth faces. The combined energy is solid at 592 (moderate wave energy), so there’s some push behind it. This is a wave for the early birds.
That Tuesday afternoon (14th) the wind swings cross-on, and the quality drops.
Wednesday morning the 15th is a write-off with cross-shore winds and chop, and the pattern remains pretty average through the rest of the week. Friday morning the 17th sees a bump in size to 6ft NE, but the period is short at 8 seconds and the wind is messy, so it’s not going to be clean.
The 18th of July (Saturday morning) has a bigger 7ft NE swell with a short 8-second period, and the energy is ramping up to 1048 (strong wave energy), but again, the cross-shore wind is going to chop it up. Not for the faint of heart.
Things start to turn around on Sunday, the 19th of July. The morning brings light rain and a 5ft ENE swell with an offshore wind, and the afternoon is a gem – glassy conditions with a 5ft ENE swell. The combined energy is a modest 280 (weak wave energy), but when it’s glassy and clean, that’s the kind of session you remember. The swell is small, so it’s great for the beginner-friendly nature of Siriu.
The real standout, though, is looking at the 22nd of July (Wednesday morning). The swell is predicted to be 10ft from the S, with a 10-second period. The combined energy is a massive 2645 (very strong wave energy). That is too big for this break, and the forecast says so. However, the afternoon is where it’s at for the experienced crew: 8ft S swell with an 11-second period, glassy conditions, and the wind is off. The energy is still huge at 2314 (very strong wave energy). This is a serious, powerful groundswell, and Siriu is an exposed beach break, so it’s going to be a heavy, straight wall. This is strictly for experts.
The 24th of July (Friday morning) has another solid pulse: 8ft E swell, cross-offshore wind, and clean conditions. Combined energy of 1543 (strong wave energy). Again, that’s big for this spot.
The 26th of July (Sunday morning) is another highlight: glassy, 8ft ENE swell with a 9-second period, and a combined energy of 1701 (strong wave energy). This is a big, clean day for the experienced surfer.
The 27th of July (Monday afternoon) is another glassy standout with an 8ft ENE swell and a combined energy of 1892 (strong wave energy). Clean, powerful, and for the experts. The second week is loaded with big, clean swells, but the size is the main factor here.
So, to wrap it up: The standout sessions are the glassy morning of the 14th of July for a fun, clean, moderate swell, and the glassy afternoon of the 22nd of July, or the morning of the 26th, for the big, powerful stuff. The 22nd is the biggest and most powerful, but it’s only for the experienced crew. There’s a gap of a few days of average to poor conditions in the middle of the first week, but it builds into a promising second week. Keep your eyes on the forecasts, but for now, the long-range stuff looks unreal.
