The Lowdown
Alright, grab your board and listen up, this is Rusty.
You know, looking at the next couple of weeks for Siriu, it’s a bit of a slow burner. We’ve got a few days of nothing much to start, with some weak, messy, short-period windswell that’s just not worth paddling out for. The first real blip on the radar is heading into the weekend, but the magic is going to happen later.
Let’s break it down. From Tuesday the 18th through to Thursday the 21st, the surf is pretty poor. A couple of those days have some swell, but the wind is ruining it, and the conditions are just ordinary. We’re talking cross-shore chop and not much energy. Skip it.
Friday the 21st is a bit of a tease. The morning shows a little pulse of 3ft ENE swell, but it’s weak with only 77 units of energy. The wind is light and cross-offshore though, so it’s clean. It’s surfable, but barely worth mentioning.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Saturday the 22nd of August is our first real standout. The morning is looking excellent. We’ve got a solid 6.6ft swell coming from the south, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is a solid 1120, so there’s some proper push behind it. The wind is a gentle breeze from the SSW, keeping it cross-offshore and clean. This is a session for the experienced crew, as that 6.6ft is a bit much for beginners. The water temperature is about average for this time of year.
Sunday the 23rd is still holding 6.2ft to 5.9ft of south swell, but the wind gets a bit crossier, and the period stretches out to 11 seconds. It’s still surfable, but the conditions are a bit marginal.
But the real gem is Monday the 24th of August. Monday morning is a stunner. We’re looking at a 7.9ft swell from the SSE, with a very long period of 14 seconds. That’s proper groundswell, and the energy reading is a massive 2102. The wind is glassy, dead calm. This is the best of the whole forecast. The waves will be clean and lined up, but that size and period mean this is for experts only. Afternoon gets onshore, so get in early.
After that, the swell hangs around for a few days, but it’s dropping and the wind turns unfavourable, leading to a lot of choppy, cross-shore conditions through the rest of the week. The energy drops off significantly.
We get another little pulse around Sunday the 30th of August, with 3.9ft ENE swell and a period of 10 seconds. The wind is light and cross-offshore, so it’s clean but not big. The energy is moderate at 437 units.
Then Monday the 31st of August looks promising again. The morning has a clean 4.9ft ENE swell with a long 10-second period and a solid 1030 energy units. The SSW wind is gentle and cross-offshore, making for excellent conditions for experienced surfers. After that, the forecast gets a bit messy again with onshore winds.
So, the two standout sessions are Saturday morning (22nd) and Monday morning (24th). The 24th is the pick of the bunch, with that glassy, long-period groundswell. Get on it early.
Short Range ForecastMostly dry. Warm (max 32°C on Tue afternoon, min 18°C on Tue night). Wind will be generally light. | Days 5-7 Weather SummarySome drizzle, heaviest during Fri morning. Warm (max 22°C on Fri morning, min 10°C on Sat night). Wind will be generally light. | ||||||||||||||||||
