The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, and I gotta level with you—this stretch ahead looks like a long, flat spell. There’s a good gap of quiet conditions before we even see a glimmer of something rideable.
Looking at the whole 16-day window, starting from now, we’ve got nothing on offer for the first nine days. That’s right, from Wednesday the 19th right through to Thursday the 27th of August, it’s all poor surf. Tiny waves, weak energy, and conditions that just aren’t worth paddling out for. The combined energy sits around the 30s (34), barely a bump. The water is a touch warmer than normal at 77°, but that’s about the only bright spot.
We see a slight pulse of hope on Friday the 28th of August. The morning shows a little more life at Tower Road, with a 1ft swell out of the SE at 9 seconds, and clean offshore wind from the west at 12 mph. The energy picks up a bit to 60, but it’s still just barely surfable, and only for the most desperate. The afternoon stays clean but the energy drops a little.
Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th of August stay weak, with 2ft swells and glassy or light winds, but the energy is still low—around 49 to 43. Not enough to get excited about. The water temp is still average for the time of year.
The best option, if you can call it that, falls on Monday the 31st of August. Tower Road pulls in a 2ft swell from the SE at 9 seconds, with the energy climbing to 71. The wind is cross-off from the south at 9 mph, keeping things clean. It’s still very ordinary, but it’s the most energy we’ve seen in over a week. The afternoon gets blown out by a fresh 19 mph south wind, so the morning window is your only chance.
By Tuesday the 1st of September, we get a bit more push. The morning offers a 1ft SE swell at a long 13 seconds, with a clean offshore from the southwest at 12 mph. The energy is 82. Then the afternoon sees a jump to 2ft from the ESE at 8 seconds, with a moderate energy of 147 and light offshore wind. That’s the most energy of the whole period, but the period is short, so it’ll be a bit bumpy.
After that, from Wednesday the 2nd of September onwards, it fades back into poor, weak surf with cross-shore winds and energy dropping into the 70s and 50s. Nothing worth the drive.
Honestly, if you’re desperate, aim for the morning of Tuesday the 1st of September—that’s your standout, but it’s still only for the patient. The whole setup is more interesting for a kayak than a surfboard.
Rusty.
