The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. It’s a quiet stretch ahead for Rehoboth Main. The water temp is sitting at 76°, which is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The bad news first: for the next week and a half or so, we’re looking at a real flat spell. From Wednesday the 19th all the way through to Thursday the 27th, the surf is basically non-existent with tiny waves and poor conditions. There’s a long gap there with no real recommendations. You’ll see a few glassy moments on the 22nd and 23rd, but the swell is just too small to bother with.
Things start to stir a little on Friday the 28th. The morning brings a 1ft swell from the SE, with a period of 9 seconds and a gentle offshore wind from the W at 9 mph. It’s only surfable, nothing special, and the combined energy is weak (60). The afternoon stays similar with a bit more wind at 12 mph, but still offshore – it’s clean, just small. Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th mornings offer the same story: 2ft SE swell, light winds, clean conditions. The best of it might be Saturday afternoon with glassy conditions and a 2ft SE swell, combined energy a weak 49. Still, these are really just ankle-biters, fine for a beginner to get wet but nothing to get excited about.
The standout window, and it’s a long-range one, lands on Tuesday the 1st of September. That afternoon we’ve got a 2ft swell from the ESE, period 8 seconds, with a gentle offshore wind from the W at 9 mph. The combined energy jumps to a moderate 147 – the strongest of the whole outlook. This is the best on offer, but it’s still ordinary waves. Wednesday the 2nd holds some clean 2ft ESE swell with a longer period of 11 seconds, but the energy drops back to weak (92). After that, Thursday the 3rd gets messy again with onshore winds.
So, overall, if you’re a beginner or just need to get in the water, the end of the month and the 1st of September are your best bet. For anyone else, it’s a waiting game. Keep an eye on the longer-range forecast, but right now, it’s pretty flat.
Rusty.
