The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this outlook is a tough one. We’re looking at Rehoboth Main, and the 16-day window is basically a flat spell with a couple of very minor pulses. The first real chance to get wet doesn't come until the morning of Wednesday, July 22nd. Even then, it’s not going to get the heart racing.
The overall pattern is a long stretch of small, weak, and messy conditions. From now until that Wednesday morning, you’re looking at a solid four-day gap of nothing worth paddling out for. The waves are consistently tiny, with poor winds and low energy. The combined swell energy is barely registering, often in the teens or twenties (weak).
Let’s get into the only period that’s even worth mentioning. On Wednesday, July 22nd, the morning shows a small pulse of swell at 3 ft coming from the SSE, with a period of 8 seconds. The wind is offshore from the W at 12 mph, which is a silver lining – it will keep the surface clean. The combined energy hits 96 (weak), but it’s the cleanest we’ll see all period. The break is exposed, and with such a small, short-period swell, it’s going to be weak and mushy. It’s surfable, but just barely. The water temperature is about average for this time of year, nothing weird going on there.
The afternoon of the 22nd sees a similar 3 ft swell but the wind swings to a cross-offshore from the NNW, and the energy drops to 90 (weak). Still clean, but smaller.
After that, it’s a washout. From Thursday the 23rd all the way through to the end of the forecast on August 3rd, the swell stays tiny – mostly under 2 ft – with onshore or cross-shore winds, short periods, and very low energy. The combined swell energy readings are mostly in the 20s to 90s (weak), with a few flickers like a 151 on Friday the 24th afternoon, but that’s paired with onshore wind and a messy wave comment. It’s a tease at best. The whole period is just a flat, blown-out mess.
The one bright spot, if you can call it that, is the very last day – Monday, August 3rd, morning. The wind goes glassy, calm, with a tiny 3 ft ENE swell at a 5-second period. The combined energy is only 48 (weak). It’s surfable but again, very ordinary. For a beginner, this is as small as it gets, and the glassy conditions will make it look nice, but there’s no power.
Honestly, for the entire 16 days, there’s no standout. The best on offer is that Wednesday morning, July 22nd, but even that is a limp, small wave day. For a dedicated surfer, this is a long, quiet stretch. For a beginner, it might be a chance to practice on a tiny, clean wave, but don’t expect much. The setup is so small and weak that it’s honestly more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing on most days.
Take a break, check the charts again in a few days. This run will end.
Rusty.
