The Lowdown
Right then, let’s talk about Rehoboth Main. I’ve gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim for any kind of decent surf. You’ll be looking at a long stretch of tiny, weak, and just plain poor conditions.
The first real chance of something, and I mean a slim chance, doesn't show up until Monday the 31st of August. There’s a little bump of energy coming through, with a combined swell energy of 50 (moderate). It’s small, at 0.7 ft, but it’s coming from the ESE, right on the money for this break, with a *very* long period of 19 seconds. The wind looks clean and offshore from the WSW in the morning. That’s the standout, but that wave height is pitiful. The water temp should be about what you’d expect for the time of year.
Before that, it’s all tiny windswell and onshore junk. The afternoons might occasionally clean up, but the wave heights are barely a ripple. From the start of September, we see a similar pattern: occasional periods of light winds or glassy conditions, but the swell just isn't there. The combined swell energy mostly stays well below 100 (weak), with some smaller readings in the teens and twenties.
Let’s be clear: there are no proper waves on offer for the vast majority of this 16-day window. The highlight, if you can call it that, is that Monday the 31st morning. It’s a long-period groundswell from a good direction, and the wind will be glassing it off. But at 0.7 ft, it’s not even surfable for a log. It’d be a long, flat paddle for nothing. After that, the energy ticks up a bit on the 31st afternoon, hitting a combined swell energy of 160 (moderate), but that’s still only 1 ft from the SE. The morning of the 2nd of September looks glassy again, but again, the swell is flat.
Basically, the board stays in the car, or on the rack. This is a blank run. For a spot that's usually fairly consistent, this is a proper dry spell. We’ll see if the forecasts change, but for now, don't hold your breath.
Rusty.
