Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what we've got coming up at Rehoboth Main over the next couple of weeks. I'll be straight with you – it's looking pretty grim for a solid paddle session for a long stretch.
The first bit of the forecast is a write-off. From Saturday the 4th of July all the way through to Tuesday the 7th, we're dealing with tiny, weak windswell. The combined energy is in the dumps, usually under 50 (weak energy). The wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, and the wave comments are all "poor surf conditions." You really don't want to be out there.
We finally see a glimmer of something on Tuesday the 7th morning. A light offshore breeze from the SW is making things look clean, but the swell is still only 2ft from the SSE with a short period of 6 seconds. The energy is still very low at 49. The report says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions" – and I agree. It's barely a session.
The pattern continues like this for days. We get another sniff of something surfable on Friday the 10th afternoon. Again, a light cross-offshore breeze cleans it up, with 2ft of SSE swell at 6 seconds. Energy is 43. It's clean, but it's a wave you could find in a bathtub.
There's a bit of a lift on Sunday the 12th afternoon. The wind finally goes offshore from the W, and we get a 3ft swell from the E with a period of 5 seconds. Energy bumps up to 61. It’s still weak and short-period, but it’s the most energetic wave in the whole outlook so far. Grab a longboard if you're desperate.
Into the middle of the month, Monday the 13th afternoon and Tuesday the 14th have offshore winds again, with 2ft of E swell and a period of 8 seconds. Energy is around the 50-70 mark. It’s clean, but tiny.
The real story here is that there are long gaps with zero recommendations. For about the first six or seven days, you'd be wasting your time. Even the "good" days are only scoring a 1 out of 10 on the internal quality scale. Nothing stands out as a true standout session. The water temp is sitting at 74°, which is about a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
If you're a beginner, these tiny 1ft to 3ft waves are fine, but the quality just isn't there. For anyone else, it's a long wait. Honestly, with these low-energy conditions and onshore choppy periods, the setup at this exposed beach break might be more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer on some of those afternoons.
So, keep your board in the car for a surprise, but don't plan a trip around it. The forecasts can change, but right now, it's looking like a tough stretch.
Rusty.
