Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright lads and lasses, Rusty here. Let’s cut to the chase – the next couple of weeks at 36th Street are a real bummer. We’re staring down a long, flat spell with nothing much to get excited about.
From Monday the 6th through the end of the first week, it’s pretty much dead. Tiny waves – 0.7ft to 3ft – with crummy cross and onshore winds messing up the surface. Swell energy is weak (12 to 62), and the period is short and all over the place. Not worth getting wet for.
There’s a little spike around Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th. The swell tries to get going, hitting 6ft on Monday morning with moderate energy (342), but the wind is a fresh cross-shore from the ENE at 19 mph. That’s gonna make it lumpy and choppy – a battle, not a joyride. For the experienced guys, it might be something to wrestle with, but it’s not what we’d call good. The swell direction is ESE, and 36th Street (a beach/jetty) really wants it from the NE for the best shape, so it’s off-kilter.
The real bummer is there isn’t a single standout session in the whole 16-day window. Every single entry in the forecast is stamped “poor surf conditions.” That’s rough. You might snag a few glassy mornings on the 11th or 16th with clean faces, but the swell is barely a whisper (0.3ft to 1.0ft). The water temp on Monday the 6th is 77°, which is a whopping 7° warmer than usual – very unusual for this time of year, so at least the water's warm.
From the middle of July onward, it’s back to tiny, weak pulses. Saturday the 18th morning is dead flat and glassy, with a long-period 14-second groundswell at 0.3ft. It’s clean but it’s a ghost. Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th are more of the same – small, weak, and messy.
Honestly, if you’re desperate for a paddle, the best bet is a clean, glassy window on Saturday morning the 11th or Thursday morning the 16th, but you’ll be scratching for anything rideable. With consistent "poor" calls and no quality in sight, don’t hold your breath. For a beach/jetty setup with this wind and small swell, those windier days might be more fun for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. Stay patient, folks. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a dry spell.
