Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for our stretch of coast. I've been staring at the charts for 36th Street, and I gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough watch.
We’re looking at a long, flat spell kicking things off. From Thursday morning right through to the middle of the following week, it’s basically a write-off. The swell energy is tiny, barely registering (combined energy values sitting between just 2 and 84). There’s just nothing in the water to get excited about. The wind is all over the place too, switching from cross to cross-off to cross-on, but with waves that small, it doesn’t really matter. You’d be spending more time floating than riding. This kind of dead run is pretty normal for the area when the swell windows don’t line up.
Now, if you’re desperate for a paddle, there’s a slight flicker of life around Tuesday, July 14th. We see a bit of a bump with a 3.9ft swell rolling in from the S, but the period is a short, weak 6 seconds, so it’ll be pretty lumpy and disorganised. The combined energy is still weak at 89, and that fresh cross-onshore wind at 18.6 mph is going to chop it right up. It’s not going to be pretty, and honestly, with a beach/jetty setup like this, that combo of onshore wind and mediocre swell might actually be more interesting for the kite crew than for us paddle surfers.
Honestly, for the next two weeks, there is no standout day. The only real “peak” in swell is that Tuesday, July 14th, but the quality is just too poor to recommend. It’s a wait-and-see situation. Forecasts can change, but right now, I’d keep the board in the bag and find something else to do for a while.
Stay patient.
