Table - best surf conditions forecast for 36th Street over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty.
Looking at the whole 16-day run for 36th Street, I gotta level with you – it's a tough stretch. We've got one break on offer and the conditions are fighting us for most of it. There are long gaps with nothing worthwhile at all, especially in the first week and a half.
We kick off on Wednesday, July 8th, and right away it's a no-go. We're looking at a tiny 2ft of short-period E swell mixing with a cross-onshore breeze, creating nothing but little wind ripples. The water is a very unusual 77°, a massive 6° warmer than normal. Combined energy is weak at 41. Honestly, it’s poor conditions straight through to the end of the first week.
Things start to pick up a bit by Monday, July 13th. The swell bumps up to 4ft from the E, but the period is a short 5 seconds, so it's all windswell. The cross-shore wind keeps it chopped up, even with moderate energy (103). It's still not a day for a paddle. By Tuesday the 14th, the swell pushes to 5ft from the ESE with a slightly better 8-second period, and the energy gets into the moderate range at 237. But a strong cross-onshore wind has it messy and choppy. This one's for the kite crew, not for us.
We finally get a window of opportunity on Monday, July 20th. It's a full week and a half into the outlook. The swell hangs around 3ft from the S with moderate energy (59), but the wind finally swings offshore (WSW), giving us clean conditions. It's not pumping, but it's surfable. It's the only real stand-out window we've got.
Then Tuesday, July 21st, is interesting. The swell stays at 4ft to 4ft from the S with low to moderate energy (75-88). The afternoon goes glassy with the wind dropping to nothing. That's a major positive. The waves will be tiny, but with that glassy surface it might offer a fun, small-wave session for those on a longboard. Not a standout, but a notable, quiet moment.
After that, the swell drops off a cliff, with nothing but tiny, poor, or glassy 0.3ft junk through to the end of the period on Thursday the 23rd.
So, to sum it up: the only real window for a wave is Monday, July 20th afternoon with clean but small 3ft surf. The Tuesday prior might offer a glassy, tiny option. For the rest, the forecast looks more interesting for kiteboarding than paddling when the energy picks up but the wind blows onshore. It’s a lean run, but forecasts can change.
Rusty.
