Table - best surf conditions forecast for White Crest Beach (Wellfleet) over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a proper look at what we've got coming down the line for the Outer Cape. I've got to be straight with you – this stretch of the forecast is a real quiet one. We're looking at a long, long run of tiny to non-existent surf.
First thing to know: this whole 16-day window is a bust for any real surfing. Actually, it's almost all a bust. The first real glimmer of anything worthwhile doesn't show up until Thursday afternoon, the 16th of July, at White Crest Beach (Wellfleet). Up until then, from Monday the 13th right through to Thursday morning, it’s just waves so small you can barely call them surf. Mostly around 0.3ft to 1ft, with weak energy readings sitting in the low double digits (13 to 24). The wind is often manageable, but there's simply no swell to work with.
So Thursday afternoon, the 16th, is the one and only possible highlight, but even that is a stretch. We're talking about 2ft of swell, coming out of the south with a short, weak 5-second period. The combined energy is still low at 40. The silver lining? The wind goes glassy – dead calm. That'll make the water as smooth as a mirror. You’ll get a few tiny, crumbly little waves. For a beginner, this is genuinely as good as it gets: small, clean, and you can have it all to yourself since no one else will be out. But for anyone with a bit of experience, it's a skunk.
After that brief, tiny window, we're right back into the doldrums. Friday the 17th through to Tuesday the 28th of July, it's the same story. Swell heights bounce between 0.3ft and 4ft, but that 4ft on Friday morning comes with a 5-second period and a poor surf rating. The energy levels are mostly pathetically low, stuck under 100 for almost every session, though there's a brief spike to 233 on the afternoon of the 21st. But even then, the wave comment is "poor surf conditions". The wind is a mix of offshore and cross-offshore, which is clean, but without any real swell, clean conditions don't matter a bit. For a spot like White Crest, a sandbar setup that needs a proper push, this is a total flat spell. It’s more of a paddle-around-in-the-sunshine kind of month.
So here's the short of it: there are no standouts. The one moment of possible surf on Thursday the 16th is tiny but clean. The rest is a 15-day gap of very small to flat conditions. It’s a long, quiet stretch, but that’s how it goes here sometimes. Keep an eye on the charts, because it can change fast.
Rusty.
