Table - best surf conditions forecast for White Crest Beach (Wellfleet) over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what we’ve got at White Crest Beach (Wellfleet) for the next couple of weeks. It’s a tough outlook, I’ll be straight with you. For almost the entire 16-day window, we’re looking at flat, unsurfable conditions. From Thursday the 9th right through to late on the 18th, it’s a total blank. Swell heights are mostly below 2 ft, with short periods around 7 or 8 seconds, and combined energy readings barely scraping into the double digits – weak stuff (values like 78 and 33). The wind is often cross-on or onshore, making it messy. The water temperature is a touch warmer than normal for July at 68°, but that’s small comfort when there’s nothing to ride.
But, there is one moment that stands out loud and clear. On Saturday afternoon, July 18th, things go big. A south swell rolls in at a solid 7 ft, with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 466 – that’s moderate-strong energy, a real spike. The wind goes glassy, dead calm. That’s clean, pristine conditions. But here’s the rub – for a beginner sandbar break, that 7 ft is strictly expert territory. It’s signalled as too big for the break, so this is for the experienced crew only, and it’s going to be a beast. The swell is from the S, close to the optimum SE direction, so it should wrap in okay. Expect crowds sometimes, but on a day this big at this spot, the lineup might thin out.
After that, the surf drops off a cliff. Sunday the 19th sees a little bump to 2 ft, but the wind turns onshore from the ENE, ruining any chance of clean waves. The rest of the week into the 24th is tiny again, with energy readings back in the 30s and 50s. The only other small highlight is Thursday morning, July 23rd – a tiny 3 ft swell from the ESE with a light WNW cross-off breeze. That’ll be clean, but the combined energy is a weak 49. It’s barely surfable, but for a longboarder looking for a ripple, it’s there.
Long story short: save your energy for that glassy, heavy Saturday the 18th if you’re an expert, or just wait and hope the long-range forecasts change. This is a long, dry spell with only one real, heavy standout.
Rusty.
