Table - best surf conditions forecast for White Crest Beach (Wellfleet) over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab your leaky wetsuit and let's take a look at what's coming our way on the Outer Cape.
Truth be told, we've got a bit of a flat spell on the horizon here. For a long stretch, White Crest Beach (Wellfleet) is just not going to offer much for a surfer. There is a tiny window of hope on the 9th of July, but after that, we're looking at a solid run of days with barely a ripple.
Let's start with what little we have. On Wednesday, the 8th of July, it's a write-off. A fresh north wind smacking across the 7 ft ENE swell (817 combined energy) means poor, lumpy conditions. That afternoon the swell drops to 5 ft (273 energy), but it's still cross-onshore and ugly.
Thursday the 9th is your best shot, and it's not saying much. In the morning we get a clean 3 ft swell from the east (124 energy) with a gentle offshore wind from the southwest. That offshore flow will keep the faces clean, but with a weak period of 8 seconds, the waves won't have much punch. It's surfable but very ordinary. By the afternoon, that southwest wind picks up to a fresh 22 mph, crossing offshore and making things a mess.
From Friday the 10th all the way through to Wednesday the 22nd of July, this is a brutal dry spell. The waves drop to under 2 ft most days, with combined energy readings barely ticking into double digits. You'll see figures like 32, 15, 12 — these are puddle conditions. A few mornings have clean conditions due to cross-offshore breezes, but there's simply no swell to work with.
There's a brief glimmer of something on the 16th of July, Thursday morning. A 2 ft ESE swell with a period of 7 seconds rolls in, and the wind is a gentle cross-offshore from the WNW. That's surfable but very ordinary conditions, but with energy at only 57, even that's a stretch.
For the rest of the period, the story is the same: tiny swells, cross-onshore or cross-off winds, and a lot of clean but empty water. It's the kind of stretch where you're better off washing the salt off your board and getting ready for the next real system.
Overall, the one morning to keep an eye on is the 9th of July. That's as close to a standout as we get. Otherwise, it's a waiting game.
